Should be a great game. Clemens' defense should get their toughest assignment to date. Home field advantage doesn't hurt any either! I'll take our boys 21-10.

I too think it will be a low scoring game. You match the Clemens defense against San Marcos's running game and it should be a knock down drag out. I will not pick a side. I hope they tie so that no one's feelings get hurt. But if someone must win I will go with Clemens 17-14.

Thanks bubbacoach, I won't call you any names tonight! LOL This should be a great game to watch if you like defense! Which I do. It will come down to who wants it more and who takes care of the ball! I also think that whoever can get a passing game going could open the game up. If one team does get the air attack going it could end up a much higher game then we think.

Eh, I wouldn't worry much. The key agaisnt SM is scoring first. James shoud provide that. I say James breaks the big one at least 3 times. With Clemens D and a lead... SM is going to be in a lot of trouble.

Thanks for the confident post for Clemens and J. Henry. I couldn't agree more about him breaking off a big one, or two, or three. And if the put 11 in the box and key him hopefully one of our other good backs will make them pay. Or, a little air attack might do the trick. One thing for sure, it should be a great game to watch.

I dunno how good it will be to watch, because I think Clemens takes the early lead and doesn't look back, but I sure will be there. It will probably sell out? I should probably skip my last class on friday and head home early.

After watching the San Marcos-Smithson Valley playoff game last year I came to the conclusion when SM is on offense just tackle everybody with purple :)
I think Clemens wins this one because of their offense vs. San Marcos defense.

I'm really hoping that you are correct on the way it will go. If we can put them in an early hole, it would allow the defense to just get after it! If your coming, you might want to try and get a ticket before game time. You know it won't take long to fill that 30,000 seat stadium! LOL

Suddenly I'm worried that the Clemens-SM game will be highly lopsided. I mean, with Longview whipping Tyler Lee and SLC handing Denton Ryan a spanking, who knows how the game will go?

it's not so much a matter of score as it is DR failing to gain momentum as well. The last two HSFB Games of the Week have truly been...well, lame. Lopsided.

Great website!! Lurked for a while, but decided to finally register...
I'll go with SC over San Marcos 35-24
Should be a good game...would love to be in Texas to see it.
By the way, with all the drama in the 26-5, I was checking the UIL site (http://www.uil.utexas.edu/2005align/pdf/5A_EnrollmentData.pdf) for enrollment to see who will be the Div. I school from that district when I found this:
District 25 Enr.
San Antonio E. Central 2214
San Antonio Highlands 2164
San Antonio Jefferson 1983
San Antonio Southwest 2586
San Marcos 1975.5
Schertz Clemens 1736
Seguin 2134
My Dad was saying something about Clemens going into the small school bracket this year and I told him he was crazy...but according to these numbers SC will be Div. II.
Thoughts?

Should make things really interesting. With Judson teetering, what SA area D1 program will hope for a long run now that Clemens looks to go D2?

My thought is that Div 1 is easier than Div2! Just look at it this way. One less game to make it to the dance. And after watching Judson tonight against Churchill, I'd much rather line up against them then SV! If you can get past SV then your looking at a Katy in the semis and then a SLC in the final!!! That will be a serious chore for anyone to get done.
The really funny thing about this is I mentioned this possiblity on this site several weeks ago and had what seemed at the time about 550 people telling me I was crazy. I new that they had filed a petition then.

I don't know about that. There's alot of talk on this board about SLC, Katy, and other powers looking like they'll end up in D1 this year. In fact, if you look at the projected brackets on this site, REG 3 seemingly has most of the power teams in D1.
D2 with SV and the extra game could be the way to go. :D

I was one of the ones saying the UIL would use both campuses. It goes to show you can never figure what the UIL is going to do. I think these numbers were just updated the last few days. I looked not that long ago and it still had the higher number. I think the UIL is having some kind of conference this weekend which this is one of the thinks that probably was on the aggenda.
Should be some good match ups between SM & Clemens vs. who knows out of 26-5 :)

There will be some awesome match ups betwen SV, Clemens, and Sm in the playoffs this year! I was really hoping for a rematch against CJ this year in round 1, but that is not going to happen now. I still wont count my chickens on where we will land in the playoffs until we line up against that first team. I simply don't understand the UIL and how they come up with some of the stuff they do. I'll tell you this, if SV and Clemens do meet in the playoffs, it will be one hell of a game again!!!

I know Clemens is very good and on paper should win this game. However the SM offensive is difficult to defense since most teams do see their offensive scheme often. The usually have a good O line and talented running backs – I’m sure this year is no difference. They also hide the ball and it is difficult (at least from the stands) to pick up who has the ball and where the attack as going – I am assuming that this presents problems for the D on the field. When they are on, they are very good at controlling the ball and limit the other teams possessions. When you crowd the box to stop the run they surprise you with a big pass. They also bring a good defense, especially against the run. The key is to get out ahead of them and to force them out of their game plan into a passing game. This should be a good game and I would not be surprised if the give Clemens all they can handle.

No, the extra team in the playoffs does not come into effect until the 2006-2007 school year.
Clemens' numbers were modified because of the opening of Steele HS. I wonder why they didn't modify the number for Judson or the Woodlands or anyone else...does anyone know why?

I don't think anyone beleives that Clemens is going to walk on SM, if they do, then they don't know a damn thing about HS football! SM / Clemens is always a good game and this one could be one of the best! SM and Clemens are both good teams and SM proved this already by beating Madison this year. I agree with your take on SM offense also. They do a very good job of concealing the football with a lot of misdirection. It takes a solid defense to even slow down their offense when they are on their game like they are now! Bottom line, whoever makes the least mistakes will win this game!

well purple thunder, that might be a good guess and everyone is entitled to their opinion but I beg to differ. Though San Marcos has a great running game they have not been tested against a defense that is as stingy as ours. Best of luck and may the best team win. This will be a hell of a game. GO BUFFS!!! ;)

I would be surprised if they did not give us all we can handle. SM has as good of a team as they've ever had this year and it will be a knock down, heavy weight prize fight! I am a big Clemens fan and also a realist. Anyone who thinks that we will just run away with this game is an idiot! I'll be very happy with a 14-13 win! These two teams are equally matched and the winner will be the one with the least mistakes when the whistle ends the fourth quarter!

[QUOTE=clemensbuff]it will be a knock down, heavy weight prize fight!/QUOTE]
Exactly. Both teams have good athletes who are disciplined and play fundamentally sound. This will be smash mouth football both ways. San Marcos will have their hands full dealing with Clemens' bigger size on their D-line but thats what our offense is designed to do. I look for a game a lot like the 21-13 regional final in '99. Clemens has to be favored at home but the Rattlers have the talent and skill to take this game. Like you said, whoever makes the fewest mistakes will win.
Both teams have new head coaches who have each done an excellent job replacing very successful predecessors. I don't think either coach Ferrara or coach Van Nest have received enough recognition for the jobs they have done so far this year.
Good luck to the Buffs and here's hoping for a clean, exciting game with no injuries. It doesn't get any better than this in HS football.
