Depends on the match-ups, each year.

(although, having to play one less game to get to a ring in D1 is at least an element in the D2 is tougher argument)

It changes and might be D1 this year.

Which one seem's harder to you guy's n girlsNo way to know yet for 2005. In 2004, Div 2 was clearly much harder.

If Katy, Longview, and SLC all end up in div1 then that will be the strongest division since they started this stuff. Hopefully that will not happen. If those teams go div2 this year it will be pretty even this year. Last year div2 was clearly stronger no doubt!! Like everybody else said, it varies from year to year on which is tougher.

div2 is harder because there is one more football game. Until we know the matchups I think that div2 gets the thumbs up

you can add westfield, shertz clemons, converse judson, north shore,
the woodlands and euless trinity to that list as well.

poppy i know the ones that are a given to go div1 but great teams like Katy, SLC, and Longview usually always go div2 so i was saying if you combine those very good div2 teams with some of the already normal div1 teams like NS, Trinity, Westfield etc etc that will be without a question the toughest division this year. Hopefully all of those schools in question that i named will go div2. If that is the case i will give div2 the slight edge.

This is one argument that I don't worry too much about. Both divisions are hard to win no matter who plays in them. Neither division should be degraded.

people are forgetting the extra game that you play when you are in division 2. That has to count for something.

Not if Katy, SLC, and Longview all go to div1 with NS, Trinity, and Westfield. If that happens there is no question which is tougher and my team will be in div2. Extra game or not if it is set up like that div2 will not compare!! Last year i thought div2 was double as strong as div1.

Regions 3 and 4 had better teams in D1 than D2 last year. Regions 1 and 2 were pretty much an exact opposite of Regions 3 and 4. You end up with the same number of good teams in each division.

Sometimes, it means an extra game that's hard and sometimes it's just one more cakewalk.

Forget the regions last year div 2 had 8 of the top 10 teams in the state and if Katy, SLC, and Longview go to div1 this year then div1 will have 6 of the top 7 teams in the state!! That is all you need to know forget the rest of the teams.

Using the Top 10 is being too short-sighted and everybody (except maybe DR) knows Ryan shouldn't have been in the Top 10.

If you look at Jerry's website, here's how 2004 finished in 5A:

SLC D2
Abilene D2
T Lee D1
Lufkin D2
S Valley D2
C Judson D1
S Westfield D1
M Lee D1
P West D2
I MacArthur D2

6 of top 10 went D2, but half of the Top 8 was D1.

It doesn't matter because some people believe that "any given friday night..." I assume that you, like me, do not subscribe to that policy because of the comment that you made above

ofcourse half of the final teams will be from D1. It is a final poll and based on how far you get in the playoffs

there is no way mlee should have been in that group. clear lake and kt either one would have lilled them. that selection makes everything else in jerry's pick suspect.

No title is a given but Lufkin's chances would increase dramtically. ;)

Bingo dragonfootballfan!! They lost to other div2 teams!! You go by what they were ranked before the playoffs. Gives you a better indication. Especially if all of those div2 ranked teams lost to other teams that were ranked higher. I am pretty sure they all did??

Did you forget that Tyler Lee, the div1 champ!! lost to 2 div2 teams last year??

LOL No i am not!! I want SLC, Katy, and Longview all in div2!! I wish ET, NS and westfield could be also but that is not going to happen. I want my team to be the best but i want them to beat the best teams out there to win it.

I really don't care who Judson plays. I just want them to win state. The way I figure it, any team they play deserves to be there and all of them can provide a good challenge. Playing Elsik in the semis in 2002 instead of North Shore didn't take 1 thing away from that title.

What you need to remember is that M Lee was dominant all year and blowing people out. They got upset in Round 1, but might've done a lot of damage last year.

It was overall ratings based upon all the games each team played.

How awesome would it be if there was no division I and II and you had Carroll, Lufkin, Longview, Trinity, North Shore, Westfield, and Katy in one playoff bracket. WOW!! Not to mention some other very good teams.

In my opinion last year, after watching what Westfield did to NS and Judson and watching Tyler Lee beat Westfield in the finals here is my top 5 at the end of last year.

1. SLC div2
2. Lufkin div2 Beat Tyler Lee
3. Longview div2 Beat Tyler Lee
4. Abilene div2
5. Tyler Lee div1 champ

judson, sv and westfield was right there also but those are my personal top 5 at the end of the year.

they blew out several not very good teams, and lost to abilene. they weren't a top 10 team in any shape or form.

My personal feeling about M Lee was that their rating was better than the true measure of the team because of their style of play. They were a bully that met their match a few times. I don't think M Lee was a Top 10 team, either. I just wanted to post that the so-called general thought that D2 was so much better than D1 is not held by me.
