My daughter lives near Paradise, out near Brideport, off of Hwy 114. Last night we were coming back home from there and were a bit hungry, so I tried to find a hamburger joint in Southlake that the guys on here had mentioned was good. I didn't remember the name, and the place I found was closed, but there was a deli near by, so we tried it.

It was called MacAlisters Deli. I had the Club and it was pretty good and my wife had the Maxi baked potato and she liked it alot. The two best things we had were side items.

For those of you who are country and remember grandma's homemade chicken and dumplings, the rolled and cut type, not those fake, lazy, drop type, well........those were the closest I've ever had like my grandma made. Excellent dumplings.

The other was the mac and cheese. Absolutely the best eat-out mac and cheese I've ever had.

I fear that the wife and me will have to go back soon, and forget the main courses, and pull out the debit card, and fill up on the starchy delights we had there.

Southlake guys......what are the best burger joints in town?

MacAlisters is awesome. I love it. There's one up here in Stillville.

I've never thought Southlake has had many good burger joints. Johnny B's is a family owned burger place next to 24 hr fitness which is pretty good, but pricey for what you get. Kincaids next to MacAlisters isn't too bad either.

McAlister's Deli is a chain and a very good one. I eat at the one in Austin a lot. Jason's Deli is another good one.

Their broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl is awesome. I also like their sweet tea.

We thought about the bread bowl and will probably get it the next time. We fretted over the dumplings, the broccoli and cheese, and the country potato soup too. The sweet tea is excellent.

BTW, I don't know if it's that way everywhere, but here in Garland, the Whataburgers all have excellent sweet tea....easily the best around we've tried. Surprising, but true.

It is kinda pricey, but very yummy. They have home cut frys, and you can actually taste BEEF when you eat their burgers. And they make milkshakes with Blue Bell ice cream, so they are very good!

Johnny Bs is the best we have found. The owner was originally from So Cal and has fashioned his burgers and fries on In-n-Outs which are So Cal classics. So far they are the best we have had and continue to enjoy week in and week out. They are closed on Sundays which we only know because of Sunday baseball games and the neverending decision on where to eat after late games :D

The only thing worth having at McAlisters is the sweet tea which they are known for.

Sounds like some high-tone taste buds to me. Glad I don't have to have the three jobs it takes to afford you......

There's a McAlisters Deli in Galveston....Jason's Deli in League City.....Never knew McA's was a statewide chain, until about a month ago....

Burgers: I would say The Shell Station across for the Taco Bell by Albertsons on Southlake Blvd. Its owned by a Chinese family and the Burgers are to DIE FOR. Someone back me up here and say how good the burgers are. On the weekdays you will find alot of construction workers in for lunch, but if you go Saturday or a weekday night it won't be bad at all.

110 W Southlake Blvd, Southlake, TX

You can call ahead and they will also have it waiting for you if needed:)

You're right, I had completely forgot about those. Don't think I've been there since junior year. DBand, you say it's not a Shell anymore? Do they still have the burgs?

Southlake guys......what are the best burger joints in town? Two summers ago I worked at the store American Backyard that is right across from McAlisters! I ate there every day for lunch. :) It's really good and we have one here in CS as well. As for good burger places, try Johnny B's or Kincaids. I prefer Johnny's. Also, if you're in the mood for mexican, try out Cristina's on 1709 near Nolen Dr. where you turn to go to the stadium. Excellent food, decor, and atmosphere, although they could afford to turn down the music a bit! :D

We were in town Sunday night coming back from Paradise to take the grandbaby home after a weekend visit. We were going to stop and get a Shell burger, but they are closed on Sundays, so we went back to McAlisters... I'm sure much to the shagrin of the apparently high-tone SoCalSLCMom.

First, does Russell Maryland live in Southlake, if he does, I'm betting he and his family walked in just after we got there...the guy looked just like him.

The wife got the Maxi tater again with the Broccoli and cheese soup, and I got the French dip with the country tater soup. We would have gotten the chicken and dumplings, but they were sold out. Still, very good stuff, unless you have Southern California roots and a big bank account to match that ego.

Yeah, he lives on Eagle Bend in Timarron. I have seen him in a couple of places around town so it would not surprise me if it was him.

I felt I had to report back on my first burger from the Southlake Shell Station: Most Excellent. I went for the double and that is one big burger. Seemed to be very fresh; both the meat and the condiments. The onions were just how I like them, strong and flavorfull. I think I too would move this area burger to the top of my list. Thanks to those of you who recommended it. I even mentioned it to the Vietnamese Lady at the counter so you should take some credit when you visit next.

To the poster that commented it was no longer a Shell Station -- not true. Maybe you are thinking of a couple of years ago when it changed from either a Texaco or Mobile. (Sadly the Texaco name is a thing of the past). The address is 2210 W. Southlake Blvd (someone gave 110 as the street address which was likely a typo). They confirmed that they usually have the grill going at night at least until 7:00 and sometimes 8:00, depending on the traffic. Seeing as they were oriental I inquired about some of those menu choices and she indicated they ordered those from some place (she did not give me the feeling she was eager to endorse them). I tried jalapeno poppers and they were average at best. They have a pretty decent looking breakfast menu as well but I rarely would be taking advantage of that. The burger definitely gets the seal of approval.

My son loves the onion rings and gets pretty savage if I get a Shell burger without him...
