View Full Version : Where's Midland?

It almost seems like Midland has disappeared. I have 16 teams that I think can get to the semis and Midland is the only one that's not in the Top 25 on this website. I think Midland is a real sleeper and nobody is talking about them. They're playing Abilene for the district title this week in Midland and they'll win. I haven't seen one mention of that game or how the Bulldogs are doing. Right now, it seems like Abilene is doing just enough to get by, but Midland is going out there playing and beating teams and getting better.
Where's all the Midland supporters?

The District Championship? You have got to be kidding....
I see the MHS vs AHS going like last year. Midland coming in with an impressive nonconference record then playing teams like Lee and Abilene and losing by forty. No reason to think it will be any different this year.
44 - 14 Abilene
Just my opinion.

A lot of things are different:
Midland is a LOT better this year.
Lee is not nearly as good.
Abilene is about 1 TD worse this year.
Lee won't beat Midland either.

I saw Midland High this year (against Amarillo) and they didn't strike me as a top 20 level team in the state in that game. Batch is a talented runner and Roseberry can do some things at QB, but I wasn't overly impressed with their defense or special teams coverage units. Basically, I think they'll be in trouble when they play a good defense that can contain (not necessarily stop) Batch because I don't think the Dawg defense will be able to hold up well if they need to be on the field a lot.

That might be true. On the surface, it looks like they've been getting better the last few weeks.

I'll assume now that Midland will be in the Top 25 next week if they beat Abilene.

Lonny sounds good on paper but they will lose to Abilene High, Abilene swarming Defence will stop the run or slow it down to a crawl. May be close the first half but Abilene will out produce the second half! ;)
GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! Beat Midland!

I went with KT2000 to the Midland vs. Amarillo game, and while I understand you can't know everything about a team only seeing them once, I didn't feel like they were a Top 25 team, yet. They didn't strike me as a team that was State Championship, or even semifinal material...my opinion doesn't mean a whole lot, but that's what I saw. If they beat Abilene, even at home, I'll be surprised. I never thought The Woodlands would hang with North Shore either, so I've surely been wrong before. I'll be at the game, so I'll give a report on what I see.

I've seen Midland High play as well. The will not beat Abilene or Lee. The games won't even be close.
They still haven't played anybody of note, to see how good or bad they really are. If the Amarillo or Permian games are what Midland High fans are basing their conclusion on, then they will be disappointed again this year. Midland High has only one good running back in Batch, but that's it. You stop Batch and you stop Midland High. Midland High hasn't faced a team with any speed or quickness, especially on defense.
As I said before, Abilene wins by 30 or more against Midland High Friday night.
But for all the Midland High fans out there, don't worry, the Bulldogs should still make the playoffs, provided they can get by Odessa High and Cooper.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

It would be a shame to put them in the top twenty five for them to turn around and lose to OHS.
I think the Eagles will win but this district is wide open. MHS thumped Permian last week pretty good and AHS won vs OHS. What this means is they won over teams they were suppose to beat. If you want to beat the Eagles you have to score points. Their defense just don't give up many points to average teams. And basically AHS and MHS this year are pretty average.

I agree with Lonny. Midland should be recognized. There are teams with 2 and 3 losses up there. Sure they might be losses to ranked schools but they are still losses. I think Amarillo HS should get a look as well. They are playing pretty well with their starting QB out with an injury. If he makes it back soon, there could be a sleeper coming out of the panhandle. Give Midland their respect, rank them boys :D

That's good. Where's Abilene?
Let's see..... the prev. post said Midland is 3 hrs. west of Abilene, so I guess------ Ab. is 3 hrs. east of Midland?
I can't imagine any Texan doesn't know where these two towns are located. I understand that we don't teach geography in the public schools anymore--must have been a question by one of the many young posters on this board.
Or was the question about Midland's location a joke that I didn't catch?

The Abilene location was a joke mainly because I live in the metroplex now and I get that a lot.

I started the thread and asked where Midland was in reference to them not being mentioned as a good team or in the Top 25. Somebody wanted to be a smart aleck and pretend I was asking a question and somebody else said it about Abilene.
We have plenty of young posters and the youth of today don't know geography. I find it funny you think I might not know where Midland is. I'm the guy that started the Stump Lonny thread that asked for people to name a town in Texas and see if they could name a place I HAVEN'T been to. There aren't a lot of them out there because I've been to every nook and cranny in the state!

Hey, I'd like to come back over here. They don't have the extremists here that some of the other bordering countries have. I'm not nearly as good of world traveler as I am in the U.S. and Canada.

I'm pretty much Bob Phillips minus 20-25 years in Texas. That's why Wide said one time that they should take down Sam Houston's statue and put me up there! :D
