I have found that Calpreps does a good job if you stay in-state and in the same year, while waiting for the regular season to be over. Until then I think the calpreps system is not that good

Wow did I just see PLano in front of SLC. I know PLano will contend and go deep into the Playoffs but being a head of SLC is a major joke.

It is done by a computer. Wait for like week 12-13. The system will corect itself by then. It is as good a system as you can get by using a computer. Also do not try to project between different classes like 5A, 4A, 3A, etc.

SLC should be at least in the top 5 and ET should be a little higher also. As far as Plano, I don't know about them being in the top 25 in the nation. 2 TD's they made against us were from our backup QB fumbling. Our passing game was also limited b/c he's not an experienced passer so we just ran the ball a lot. He also fumbled on 3rd and goal which made us lose a down so we could have had another TD. I like the guy but he's a WR, not a QB. Also, this is just a bad coaching call, but all of a sudden they've decided to put a freshman in as a starter. The kid nearly lost a kickoff return which would have made the game 52-7. Although Plano is very good, I don't see them in the top 25 in the nation.

who atleast agree's with me that cal preps is horrible though long view fan's will enjoy beeing ahead of slc :DWe've discussed CalPreps and MaxPreps before. Any national computer power ratings have HUGE problems. There are thousands of teams and only a very, very tiny fraction of the teams have common opponents. As a result the national power ratings are very flawed. For example, how does a computer compare Texas football with every other state? It can't be done accurately.
In 2004 Independence Charlotte was not even ranked by MaxPreps or CalPreps. However, in SIX other polls there were ranked about 2nd-3rd in the nation.

I might be the original big fan of Calpreps. I tracked all year last year what they thought everybody should do and they were pretty right-on about point spreads in games. Even though Judson is not at the top in the nation this year like last year, I'm still a big fan of the site. I like how they don't give a rating until every team has played 3 games. The ratings get better as the year goes on and you can't compare the different classes.

I'm not a big fan of polls, period, but Calpreps is a joke! Analyzing the divisions, levels and districts of each state, then rationalizing the strength of losses and wins, via computer, is completely useless.
I believe in strength of schedule, hence the emphasis that the BCS puts on College Football. And that is subjective seeing how it is we see the top ranked football teams, play, every Saturday on national television....and human voters, who can view these games, are apart of the equation.
The Massey ratings use the level of competition per state, the strength of schedule and number of wins to determine their rankings. (As well as other factors!)
Example...
If Texas is considered the toughest football state in the U.S., it's wise to assume a victory against a Top 25 team in Texas is more significant than a win in the Top 25 of Illinois, therefore the Texas teams' victory is rated higher....and the more wins, in the toughest state, the higher the rank.
Ohio agrees with Calpreps because that is one of very few national polls that recognize Ohio football as the tougher state to play in. (Very few polls!!)
Texas, California, Florida and Georgia are well respected in the, more respected, main polls because human voters know the difference, and overall level of play is tougher in those states than any other state....and the depth of elite Texas schools is astonishing.

The freemanratings are by far the best ranking system in the country because there is ZERO subjectivity in it.
Each week the system corrects itself even more because, like any computer, the more data input into the system, the better it is. I've followed the freemanratings since they started national polls in 2003, and it's amazing that a computer can get those ratings so correct.
As much as you guys think Ohioans think its so great because Ohio looks better, Texans don't like it because Texas isn't ranked 1,2,3,4, and 5 in the nation.
Texas still has a lot of teams ranked. All polls are ridiculous, but this one is the best of them all. No humans interfere with it. You don't have stupid guys like Chris Lawlor giving us less than average knowledge of football, or the national prep poll which tells us wonderful things like "oh willy wonka attended this HS 35 years ago"

Yes, it does correct itself every week. 3 weeks ago there were a bunch of smaller schools at the top of the Top 100 in Texas. The power schools have been moving up the rankings and increasing their point ratings in the last few weeks. I agree this is a great national poll. Jerry has a real good one here in Texas, but it's still hindered by having a starting point and adjusting from there. Freeman just starts after 3 games without subjectivity.
