With all the injuries that Judson has suffered the last 2 weeks due to staff infections, injuries during games(like my son's) and other things...I have left this week's game against Reagan in the hands of our Lord...would we like to beat them...sure, but the playoff's are what the team has worked for all last summer(with 2 weeks of 2 a days) and this season...it is my son's senior year...he is looking forward to more years(in college) playing football, but this is the last few times as a Rocket...Judson starts at 0-0,(like all the teams do) and they believe that they have the talent to go deep in the playoff's...the first round is going to be the toughest andthat is the reason for this thread...
does anyone have any detail on the two teams that Austin is sending to the playoffs...Austin Westlake and Austin Bowie...what kinds of offense do they run? What kinds of defense do they run? Are they ready for the playoffs? stuff like that...any help will be much appreciated...

Bowie is above average. I'm not the type to go overboard on how good "my" teams are. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been 9-0. Lost to Round Rock 17-14 on a last second FG in the first game. 7 of RR's points came on a return and Bowie had not called up their JV playmakers yet. In game 2, McNeil made a miracle comeback in the 4th quarter to win 34-30. The young guys were starting to get more playing time. Since that game, Bowie has won 6 in a row, including wins over Austin, Westlake and San Marcos.
The offense is above average. They run the spread offense and run a lot out of it. Draws, sweeps, tosses, counters all out of the shotgun. Sometimes with split backs. There's also a package where Soph. Nick Goss goes to QB and runs a sort of McFadden package. Matt Dodds is the JR starting QB. He's pretty accurate on short to intermediate routes. His deep throws need some work as he usually overthrows his guys.
The receivers are very good. D'Andre Perry is a 6'3 210 Soph. He's got great hands, but doesn't have sprinter speed. Don't get me wrong, he averages almost 20 yards per catch, but he gets that by breaking tackles because of his size. Philander Moore is the other WR, 5'10 180 JR. He's the speedster. He's returned 2 kickoffs and 2 punts for touchdowns, one was 102 yards. Bowie runs a lot of WR screens and hitches. They rely on their guys to make you miss and then it's hard to bring them down.
Heath Hohmann is the starting RB. He's 5'10 190 and also a JR. He's got good speed and very good balance. He likes to hurdle tacklers. I've seen him do it in the last two games. He'll catch some swing passes and is a threat to take it to the house. Can move the pile.
The defense is what carries this team. As a team, Bowie is giving up 11.8 pts per game. 28 of those have been on INT or kick returns. I'm not real sure what their base set is. I've seen them play a lot of 3-4, but have seen more 4-3 lately. The D is slightly undersized, but makes up for it in speed. They're very fast and although it's cliche, they all run to the ball. They do have occasional breakdowns in the secondary and can be beat deep though.
The JV playmakers that I mentioned also helped Bowie win district last year in track. Team speed is our strength.

Another thing, WR Philander Moore hurt himself last week. It was either a knee or ankle. He came out limping, but under his own control. I'm watching for him tonight. If he doesn't play, I'll try and ask around about how bad it is and if he'll be able to go in the playoffs.

Here's how you do it:
Westlake is good. They run the ball well and pass the ball well. They have a tradition of going deep in the playoffs. Their defense has really started to click as of late, and I expect the 1st round game to be a great one.

I'm not putting any information out there that a normal person couldn't see, let alone a coach watching film. And secondly, I seriously doubt any coaches from Reagan or Judson read this board looking for gameplanning help.
About the injury, meh. He'll either play or he won't. It's not boxing. They're not going to go after his ankle because they hear it's slightly sore. How would they do that anyway? Tackle his ankle? I hope they try that...he'd be gone for a TD. :D

Bowie has a solid football team. Very sound. A couple of game breaking WRs and a real good defense.
Westlake is Westlake. They know how to win. Especially in playoff time.
Austin High has some gamebreakers as well on offense. Big Oline. Great Linebacker. Fast football team.
San Marcos has an attacking defense, and a tough offense to stop, esp. if you havn't seen it much.
The top of 25-5A is pretty good. They could compete anywhere, 14-5A, 26-5A. After the top 4 though, there is a significant dropoff to the next tier of teams.

Thank you for your info...and your honesty...Judson has made the playoffs and has the talent to go deep in the playoffs...our defense is our anchor (as usual)...if our coaches open up our offense some, we can go very deep in the playoffs...we have good size on the offense...we have very good runningbacks and good receivers...we can win, if our coaches let us win...it is in the coaches hands...

Your defense is your strength, but I would not call it good. There are way to many hole is your defense. And the coaches cannot take it farther than the talent allows it.

You would be amazed at how many coaches are reading this, but not to gameplan I assure you.
