View Full Version : Cedar Park's playoff chances...

are confusing. This was taken from Brad Cone's (the voice of the Timberwolves) latest article:
"There are several possible playoff scenarios, and even some confusion as to how the UIL rules would be applied in tiebreakers involving ties between more than four teams for more than one position. The best guess we can come up with, running the most likely probabilities, is that the Timberwolves must beat Leander by five points or more, and hope that either Pflugerville beats Round Rock OR Round Rock doesn’t beat the Panthers by more than eight. One possibility has Leander advancing even with a loss to the Timberwolves, IF McNeil pulls off a big upset of Georgetown. If that doesn’t happen, then the “Great Uncle of ‘em All” – the Bagdad Bowl – is a playoff game in all practicality, with the winner going on – if CP wins by five or more - and the loser done for the year.
This bizarre playoff tie-breaker system puts Cedar Park head coach Chris Ross in an unenviable situation. If the T’wolves trail Leander by one or two points with seconds left in field goal range, kicking that field goal would win the game, but end the season, as the Timberwolves would not have the five-point margin they need to move on. Coach Ross would likely shun even an easy game-winning field goal to try for the touchdown that would clinch the playoff slot. Here’s hoping no such high drama comes about."

Don't worry Leander will put the game away by halftime, with a 24 or 30 point lead. I'm telling you # 30 is back in full effect,It will be like last years game over by halftime. The Leander football machine is rolling at the right time. High School Football gotta love it.

So, two losses and a narrow win over one-win (in district) McNeil is what you consider a roll???:D

No having #30 Frank Rodriguez back is considered starting to roll. There is no stopping the Leander football machine when Frank the "Tank" is in the line up. Like I said Frank missed four games and Leander struggled in all four games. Frank is back now and life is good at the "JUNGLE" home of the Leander Lions. High school football gotta love it.

Ouch! But you have to admit that it is better than Cedar Park losing to
"one-win (in district)" Westwood. :p

Not that i don't hope it happens, but how can how you can possibly say that Leander will coast through this game?? What have they shown since the start of district play that would indicate this game is going to be an easy win. Has Leander even beaten anybody in district by more than 13 points (Westwood). If Leander shows up to play like they are capable, then they will win IMO, but Cedar Park has just as much on the line as Leander does. We'll see who wants it more.

I totally agree. This has been a weird district season for Leander. I mean it's like the Lions played their hearts out aganist Plugerville, then left their heart in the field for the rest of the season. Let's hope they find their heart again on Friday, and roar like the lions they are.

Yep, but you didn't see anyone from Cedar Park on here boasting that we were rolling through the district either, like Mr. Rodriguez has been.

You're right. But he's the only one from Leander saying it. :( But I think he's mainly just ...... not serious. (Except about Frank. Kid's pretty amazing.)

Is number 30 your son, brother, relative or you? Let me guess Gideon’s speed compliments Rodriguez's power.

Yes #30 is my son and like I said he is the main cog in the Leander football machine, His presence in the backfield and on defense draws attention away from the other players allowing the other players to make plays that with Frank out of the game would not be made. Any way after the game I will either be right or wrong. The parents talk the talk and it is up to the players to walk the walk. High school football gotta love it.

I think it is great that you think so highly of your son. I am sure that he is a great athlete. But I also think that you should be careful of the things that you write. You boast him up like he is the only player on the TEAM. Last time I checked- there was not an I in TEAM.
The Leander/ CP game is going to be one of the best ones in the Centex area. They are pretty evenly matched IMO. I can't wait for the outcome- win or lose- either team will represent 14-5A well.

You still didnt answer my question. How can you possibly feel that Leander will coast through this game with what they've shown in district play so far, Frank or not. One player on a 5a playoff team (with depth) shouldnt make that big of a difference.

All I can tell you is this . Frank played in every game up through the pflugerville game. In the first game against converse judson frank was killing them with his runs up the middle . Why coach quit giving frank the ball and decided to pass only coach can answer that. In the A&M consolidated game at the Alamo dome the team was struggleing and when frank was given the ball in the third quarter momentum changed Leanders way.The same thing in the bryan game Leander started out well in the first half. Offense started struggling and frank was given the ball about six times in a roll , he was punishing the defense . The defense keys on frank and he still makes his yards a lot of yac yards that is yards after contact. Also with frank in the backfield it allows other players to make plays. Reggie , Blake and Massoni. Watch the game on friday night against cedar park and then shoot me an answer and tell me what you think. All along I have said Frank is the main cog in the Leander football machine. The four games he missed round rock, stony point, georgetown and westwood the team struggled both offensive and defense. I have watched the players on both Leander and cedar Park grow up. From pop warner to high school. It has been a pleasure to see that many talented kids grow up. Enjoy the game . High school football gotta love it.

No mam he is not the only player on the team. I have never said that. All I said is that with him in the game Leander offense and defense roll a lot better. Watch on Friday and get back at me with a message on this site. Just like in life there are three types of people, Leaders , follower and those that need to get out of the way. Same thing with football players. I don't mean to disrespect anyone . I treat people the way I would like to be treated, but when you get to talking football the talking just begins ,Just like with college and nfl teams , it is up to the fans to talk the talk and the teams to walk the walk . Here is to a great game on Friday and may all the player come out of it injury free. High school football gotta love it.

Well, ok... you are saying some pretty bold things about the others players on you "son's" team.
Last year when we lost Tyler and Cochran to injuries, we kept on rolling. Honestly on team we good, but we weren't just LOADED with talent. We went 2 rounds in the playoffs with our THIRD string quarterback.
My point is: Frank may be good, BUT One player can't make that much difference in a TEAM. IMO.

I tend to disagree, because Frank is a LEADER. A TEAM NEEDS A LEADER. The attitude and quality of the leader could make or break a team. Therefore one person can make a BIG DIFFERENCE in the attitude of the team, if that person has leadership qualities like frank does. I don't think all the attention should be paid to him, because it causes strife between the other players, but i do feel that without his leadership and encouragement the lions were somewhat wounded. I know Frankie, and I know none of this hype about him would give him a big head at all, but he deserves to be pointed out as one of the LEADERS on the team that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE. yalls third string qb was obviously a leader, you make it sound like yall just thrusted the kid in there without any confidence in him....HE made a big difference, don't take that away from him and don't take that away from Frank.

First- DO NOT put words in my mouth. I did not make it sound the way that way at all. We had all the confidence in the world in him.
As I said- #30 is probably a great player. I am NOT taking that away from him. Just as I am not taking that away from last years 3rd stringer.
But- what he said was that he made the big plays and HE was the one that allowed for the big plays to happen. I don't agree with THAT. ONE PLAYER can't do it all OR their wouldn't be any need for the other 10 guys on the feild.
Rdz1965 made it sound to me that his son is the only leader/ or great player on the team. I just have to disagree with that. They are a great team- but its not just 1 player.
Maybe I interpreted his post wrong- and if I did- then I am sorry, but this is how I read it.
Second- to be a leader- you are a leader ON and OFF the field. Injured or not. You are still on the sideline and included in all of the practices. Be a leader at all times- or IMO, you can't call yourself a leader at all.

Now now no need to get flustered. All I have ever said is that frank is the main cog in the Leander football machine. His presence in the backfield and on the defense draws attention to him and this allows other players to make plays that would not be possible if frank was not in there. Frank is an amazing young man. He doesn't drink alcohol or smoke . He is all about others before himself. Ask any teacher or coach that knows him and they will all tell you the same things about frank. Any how come to the Leander vs Cedar park game cheer for your team and pray that no one gets injured. The sun will
rise tomorrow and we can all agree to disagree that is what makes this site a great site. High school football gotta love it.

Yeah, that's totally uncalled for. But I'm sure it hurts to have lost and be out of the playoffs, so we'll let it slide. :p :p Besides words don't take any value out of Frank, who is a good kid and great athlete with A LOT of heart.

Say what you will. Two words of advice . Never argue with a crazy person in public or on a web site, other people walking by or reading this thread don't know who the crazy peson is. and Second when life hands you lemons make lemon aid. As a parent of two athletes I have developed a thick skin , which is what you need . People will say good things and people will say bad things about my kids , that is the nature of the game. I will pass this info on to Frank maybe he can use it as motivation in next weeks game. This is america and we can agree to disagree. Have a nice life. High school football gotta love it.

dude chill outi just said that cause i wanted your reaction.
your kid clearly was still affected by his injury, he got pancaked a few times last night and it really was obvious he wasnt in full affect. your kid is HUGE he just couldnt get anything going. i understand were your coming from but you do talk alot about Leander which is a good thing, it shows you have enough confidence to talk trash. but chill out your taking things a bit to seriously. good luck in the playoffs again i hope you guys go far rep our district.
