Garland vs South is always a heated game. To say that the Owls play like THUGS is not fair. These are good KIDS who work hard and play hard. Yea, you may not like the fact that some of the kids dance in place between plays (neither do I) but to classify them as THUGS for this is rediculous.
Garland had 4 personal fouls during the game.
--The first was for hitting the SG QB while he was running the Option...questionable call.(you teach kids to hit the QB and make him pitch)
-- The second was also on a hit of the SG QB when a GHS kid jumped in the air as the QB threw the ball then came down on the QB and the QB fell...again, questionable. (do we expect defensive players not to hit the QB, this isn't the NFL where the QB is off-limits)
-- The third was from a defensive player spiking the ball after a fumble recovery that was ruled "not a fumble". (this one I truely had a problem with because the kid lost his head and you can't have that)
--The 4th was called on a Garland defensive player who was dancing while waiting for South Garland to come off the sideline huddle to run their play. This kid was just standing in place doing a little dance, not taunting anyone, not playing to the crowd or any of that. Yes this was a stupid penalty but I don't see how any ref calls this. The kid was 25-30 yards from anyone.

Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying here. Yes, there were some bad/stupid penalties the other night but only 2 were truely rediculous.

Now, lets talk about the 2 personal fouls that South Garland got.
--the first was on an offensive lineman getting a running start and hitting a Garland player in the back around the pile well after the whistle had blown.
--the 2nd was a SG player shoving a GHS player while both players were trying to get up off the ground and 3 refs were even there trying to help everyone up. Now, how stupid are those penalties. These are not penalties that happen when kids are playing hard, these are both "cheap" shots.

Right or wrong, Garland is going to be critisized either way by non-fans and celebrated/supported by their fans. That fact I've grown to realize.

What's missing from ALL THE OTHER posters is this, That game last Thursday night was a tremendous game. Take away all the dumb penalties from both teams and that was a classic battle between two very good football programs. Yes I'm glad the Owls won, but I thought both teams played their butts off in all fazes of the game. Congrats to both teams for showing up and doing your best. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
