IF you are a TRUE Lobo fan, lay off of it. Let the team do their talking on the field. Every time you post, some SLC fan brings up the PAST. The past is just that, the past. We can't do a thing about it. Yeah, we haven't won since 1937, hell some teams haven't won it at all. We haven't beaten Lufkin in 9 games, wow. The overall record is still fairly even. I would rather lose to Lufkin than a team from Dallas or Houston. I have a lot of respect for Lufkin as a team, and the majority of their fans.
You can't deny what SLC has doen, however they've done it. Yeah, they're blowing everyone out, but they will get some competition in the playoffs. That's the beauty of the playoffs, there is actually competition there, even if there may not be in district. I'm so glad we don't do it the way the day it in D1 NCAA football, that system is a joke.
My point? myround, you're making all of us Lobo fans look like fools. You are not gaining respect for us or the team, but losing it. Let the TEAM do the talking. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Win or lose. If we lose, it will be because we met the better team on THAT day, even if we felt like we had the better team all year long. National polls are a JOKE. For that matter, the state polls mean nothing. Yeah, they're a good yard stick at times, but they are just people's opinions. The good teams win on the field, the not-so-good teams go home.
From one Lobo fan to another...at least that's what I gather....LAY OFF for now. You're making us look bad. I've been there when the Lobos started 5-0 in non-district, only to miss the playoffs for the first time in many years. I was there from 94-98 in the band. I witnessed the '97 season first hand, every minute of it. I was there for the cockiness. We all expected to win. Boy, we had our bubble burst hard that day in the Astrodome. It happens.
This team is so much better than that '97 team. It's not a one man team. There is no one "star" player. They are all stars, playing as a TEAM. We don't need Vondrell to run for 300 a game, or Carlin to throw for 300. Stats don't matter, the only stat we need is the one point more than the other team on the scoreboard when the final buzzer sounds.
We know our team is good, we've seen it. Just how good has yet to be determined. IF we meet Lufkin again, I think it will be a great game, just like last year. Last year was a disappointment to Lobo fans for sure, but I can bet you that EVERY fan at SFA that day would say they witnessed one of the best HS football games ever. We have seen some great games between Lufkin and Longview the last few years, even if we have ended up on the wrong side. Aside from the championships, Lufkin and Longview are a lot alike. Their fans are alike, their bands are alike. We are all die-hard fans.
Myround, just sit back and enjoy the year. It doesn't happen that often. Good luck to all the teams as we gear up for playoffs. Hope everyone goes in healthy and no matter what the outcome, that your kids leave it all out on the field. They are playing the greatest sport in the greatest state for it. High school football is probably the most pure version of the sport there is. The kids play for their school, for themselves, and NOT for the money. They give their blood, sweat, and tears for one prize. A prize that many strive for but only few achieve.
