College Park 7

TWHS 0

Just what I thought a low scoring game. Both defenses playing hard. TWHS had a chance but threw a INT before the half.

went to the game. i have these observations-

1. #6 was the player of the game on both teams IMO. Both of these teams were hitting, and the RB for TWHS and QB for CP took everything the other team was dishing out and delivered a little extra of their own.

2. I witnessed the "Band parent exodus" in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. I wanted to take back the clapping i did for the bands and drill teams. POed me in a minor way that they would be that selfish.

3. In that same vein, i don't know that the additional fans would have been that much help anyway, as the TWHS crowd had to be the quietist capacity crowd I've witnessed in some time, although most of my recent games involved cheering for Lufkin, and those folks are the best crowd I've ever sat with. It would be 3rd down on defense and there's a few people clapping, I was amazed.

4. TWHS needs a new play calling system. Several times, they hurt themselves badly by being so slow to get the play in.

5. the players played very hard and I thought CP's crowd was into it pretty good, but it didn't feel like a rivalry game to me. Late in the 4th quarter, we finally had some people standing and yelling for TWHS. It just really surprised me.

6. CP is going to get their punter killed with that cutesy little 5 step run he does before kicking. I get it that he is setting up the coverage team, but he's there for the killing if a defender gets the chance.

7. i am definitely ready for some playoff games!

Good analysis --pretty much agree with you --but just in case you didnt know -- # 6 for TWH is not regular RB ( although he has had some carries this season ) --he is a starting WR --the starting RB went down in 1st qtr

yes, they were at san antonio, but why leave after halftime, their kids go to the junior highs that feed these high schools, and it was 7-0 at half.

Given the way TW is playing this year, CP is not the first team to get a win over their crosstown rival. They are, however, the only team/crowd to spend more time taunting their opponent than celebrating their own team.

Slorch, taking a few steps before a punter's foot makes contact with the ball is actually a better technique than your typical doing it from a standing start.

Watch Rugby players do it. It gives them better rhythm and better accuracy and distance.

I understand what he's doing, but once he deviates from the "normal" motion of punting, he is fair game. i know as a player, i would have loved to hit him.

It's Trey Diller (#11 WR). He lives to get hit as well as deliver it. When the game was on the line tonight they had him play DB. In TWHS final possession, he had a sack and the final INT.

Don't get me wrong. The players are great. I have several CP players come to my house and chill. It was mostly students and cheerleaders chanting "Ha-Ha. We beat you!" and "Two and Seven" over and over.

Not so much priceless as it was classless.

all the more reason for him to stay in the "protected" zone, IMO. I've seen a ton of football in my day, and I've never seen a kid do that consistently. I hope he never gets hurt, but why take the chance?

When you consider those same kids had to hear the chants of 'Woodlands Rejects' all year last year, (all sporting events) I think we can give them a pass this time around. It was just kids being kids. Just like TWHS last year.

Congrads to College Park! It is great to see such a young team make it to the playoffs !!! With only 2 years under their varsity belt, they proved to be a great team, program & fans!

This is a sad day for the Woodlands, tonight's loss breaks The Woodlands Playoff streak!

Next year will be a new year!

I didn't see anything approaching "heated rivalry" status as far as contentious behavior. i was actually looking forward to some, and left dissappointed, but not in the football game. It was a very high effort level for the players. i did enjoy that.

The Woodlands will have an abundance of talent next year. A lot will depend on whether the Coaching staff can make the necessary adjustments to be able to maximixe the utilization of said talent. Not quite sure where the parents and QB club are at as far as their patience level is concerned.

I didn't hear anything from our side that was classless but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. I did hear TW's students yell "Kill College Park" or something similar to that during the beginning of the national anthem and they purposely sat down during our school song. I thought our kids showed alot of class by not retaliating during TW's school song.

After the game, It was SO cool to see the boys from both teams hugging and shaking hands. That was the longest handshaking I've ever seen after a game. These boys are literally from the same town: neighbors, old friends, current friends, fellow church goers, etc. It's so good to see a friendly rivalry and that they can all be good sports in the end! Good job to the players from both teams!!!

For being such a self proclaimed "playmaker", number 11 had a relatively QUIET game for the cavs. Actually he didnt do jack squat for them on offense, i think he had maybe one catch. so before you get on your knees for this kid, check his stats. maybe a dozen catches on the year. one catch tonight. what a PLAYMAKER...

Whoa easy there. The offense is such that WR's do not see the ball a lot. If you go 8-1 running the ball, why would you want to go away from it? Here's the thing. The WR's for CP are required to do other things that help the option offense that does not show up on the stat sheet. You have to be unselfish in this offense. In the end it's all about winning.

For the second week in a row, the TW defense stepped up and held a team with good/great scoring potential to only two touchdowns. I just watched the film and I saw some really heads-up plays. Renton (#17) had 10 tackles (3 of those were sacks) and he caused a fumble. Rowe (#6) had an interception on a huge 3rd down play. Knight (#95) picked up a fumble that was jarred loose by Latimer (#42) near the CP end zone. Great job guys!

It's just too bad they don't have the O to go with that D. If they can get that part of their game, they'll do very well in district and should make it past the 1st round of the playoffs.

That has been my observation of the Woodlands. Very good defense. Very predictable offense. They have the playmakers to play a more pro-style offense. If they went to that I think they would be more succesful.

Cavdad is correct. Cp only threw the ball 5 times the entire game and he did have the only reception and if you go back and look and the game on film you will find King, Trey, and the rest of the receivers blocking their :Censor: a$$e$ off so that Josh and Jello can make their long runs. In fact the second TD that they scored was set up by 2 beautiful blocks by Crittenden on a safety and King ( I believe) on the DB close to the end zone. If he wasnt such a good athlete then the DEFENSIVE coaching staff would not have the confidence to put him in the game whit the game on the line to cover and blitz. He did have a sack and an INT to seal the game. Although I do not agree with what he did after the INT.

I think it's a matter of necessity. We don't really have a consistent enough punter to afford the luxury of protecting him. Chase Daniel ended up having to do it for Carroll. Kyle Drabek did it for TWHS. At this level, when the game and season is on the line, coaches often have to call on their best all around athlete. I'll send Coach Carson a note to take a vacation to Australia. I'm sure he can bring back a decent punter/athlete from any Australian Rules playing field. :D

GONE, the patience is GONE. There was a chance to have the QB club be MORE supportive by including the club in the issues the coaches face and allowing the QB club to help with public relations. As far as I'm concerned, when the QB club meetings closed so did the wallet.

On the other hand, I think we'll see much greater talent in some key positions come out next year, combined with more seasoned seniors and this TWHS will be district champs!! That's right I said it first!:D

I think the O will turn around when the O coordinator does. Bad play calls. They called a draw (which they don't do often) on 3rd and 18, got stopped for a loss. What's the response? Yell at #6 for not hitting the right hole. That's a way to motivate your kids, yell at them for a bad play call. I heard more from the kids afterwards in being frustrated with the coaches than I've ever heard...EVER on ANY team. This meant a lot to these boys, they wanted to put their best on the field and they don't believe the coaches allowed it to happen.

On the other hand, look how much class was on both sides post game. These are good kids and I have respect for them.

When CP students chose to transfer, they were harassed the remainder of the year at McCullough. For the past three years they have suffered name-calling by TWHS students: "Woodlands Rejects" "Hoodz in the Woodz".

Opening a new high school requires an enormous amount of hard work, dedication, and commitment. In just three years, the College Park students, parents, and staff have built competitive programs in all areas (academics, fine arts, and athletics). The kids have learned to ignore the name-calling, find belief and strength within, and persevere.

There was name-calling on both sides last night. The TWHS students in the endzone were screaming their favorite, "Woodlands Rejects" chant during the entire game at the CP kids. I can only imagine what they would have come up with if they had won the game.

Luckily, there were no spraypainting incidents or other unsportsmanlike pre-game nastiness this past week.

While the "2-7" chant by the CP student fans was unnecessary, they quickly were redirected by the cheerleaders and coaches to yell "8-1" in support of their own team.

You will find no classier group of coaches than those led by Coach Richard Carson. Congratulations CP on a consistently strong showing this season.

To both teams from the Woodlands: Go get 'em in playoffs!

I must say, I wasn't expecting them to be that supportive. That was great.

It really was a great rivalry game. While there was some uncalled-for behavior on both sides, it was so great to see the guys from both sides talking like friends afterwards. I mean, they are friends. It was awesome, and they all exhibited incredibly good sportsmanship. And the parents were great too (I know in my experience I've seen a few (not many.. just a few) parents lose their heads at a football game over the score.. and I kind of expected there to be some of that last night.. but there wasn't, which was wonderful.)

An all around good feeling. I couldn't have chosen a better way to end it myself. :D

I kinda like "Hoodz in the Woodz". I grew up in the ghetto and wooked my way through college. I think CP should adopt "Hoodz in da' Woodz" as their motto. I like it. When can I come to the next CP - TWHS game dressed as a hoodlum? Eva' been to da Bronx?
