if judsons offense actually decides to come out n play i think they'll take this one by 10, maybe even more because reagans defense isnt all that great. and if our defense stops marcus wright (which they are capable of doing) then we will be just fine

Judson's going to play close and the defense is going to bounce back. Our offense needs to make plays!

Actually Judson's offense has come out to play every game this year......just sometimes the defense that they play against plays better.
Reagan in a close game

OK 07, I am going to watch all the threads this week come up, but I have one to post...the boys this year have taken huge hits by injuries and OC play selections...but our D has come thru all year...we lost to SV 31-17...our D gave up only 22 of those points...holding SV to their lowest point total in the second half...7 points...so the comment saying that our defense may not be capable...if there is any doubt, it would be on the offensive side of the field with all the injuries...but not the D...they will be ready...hope you are...should be a fun game...

Not true, Madison held them to 0 in the second half. Also, when you are up 31-3, its time to burn the clock at SV. They could have scored more in the second half if they wanted to. Now I wish they would have early, so they would not have been accused of running up the score at the end. Either way you look at it, SV put up over 30, and Reagan will probably do the same. Judson might score a little more against Reagan if anything.

Thank you for the correction zippy, but they might have scored more...but they did not...did they? we can all say what might have happened...like if we had scored on the 1st and 4 from the four...and if we could have scored instead of a field goal...and if we had held on to the ball after the onside kid...we can all say what if or could have...but like all posters have said...no excuses...they won by 14 and only scored 7 points in the second half...and I guess we will see next week who wins that one...won't we...

Only three teams I know of have "shut down" Marcus. Westlake last year (although he ended up with 300 some yards I think). And Madison and SV this year. Marcus had 214 against SV and 150 against Madison. Needless to say Madison was by far and away his worst game in quite a long time.
I'm sure you alls defense is nice. But lets not get ahead of ourselves.

All Judson needs to do is stop making dumb mental mistakes on and off the field.
If they can do that then Judson is a hard team to stop. period.
And if the LBs dont come to play Marcus WILL have a field day.

And how many chances has SV had in 5A compared to Judson? Yea.. Oh well SV is 3-1 against the big bad dominate Judson. Its not like they have a cakewalk once they get there. Twice has been a loss to the best team in the Nation, one was close. The other was to a very tough Denton Ryan team. Judsons? Last second win against a Midland High team that would not place better than 3rd in 26-5A this year. Ahead of Judson of course.

Whatever you want to justify in your mind. It was a last second Championship win, kind of like SLC's a few year's back, but it was still a win and Championship. Anyway, GL to SV in the playoffs, I believe they have the tools to make it to semifinals and maybe the big show, unless they stumble against the mighty Warren Warriors, which shouldn't happen.

Stop it Zip you are starting to make the rest of the SV posters look bad. I will take 6 all day long and could care less who we had to play to get them. It is the past but it does stay with you forever, thats just the way it is. As for the future, yes SV has Judson's number, but again they are not the only one. You will see my friend about change it is coming to both schools so in the next 3 years this will be a moot point.

Zippy....I have to tell you that I was at your first title game against SLC and was chearing for you guys as much as I cheered for my Rockets the week before against Midland. One of your faithful got semi upset at me because I was from Judson even though I was rooting them on as loud as he was. He told me "Well Judson would not have beaten SLC either" my response back was "you're probably right but then again we don't have to beat them....you do". I guess my point is cakewalks, tough schedules, close games or blowouts, best team in the nation...or whatever....no body ever really remembers who came in second. We came in #2 on 4 occasions it hurts to lose so I can understand how you feel....but let the bitterness go.
The current SV team has a great shot at bring home all the gold this year and I for one hope they do.
Now as for Judson vs Reagan.......no ifs, ands or buts. Marcus Wright will get his yards but Judson WILL WIN!!!!!!

So may as well beat'em to the punch. When they're on, they are tough to beat. They just haven't been on. Our defense plays good. But I like our recieveres and especially our TE and FB. Bensch and Dawson(respectively)

There are some premier back in 26-5A this year. They have been a joy and frustration to watch. Rios is quick as any I've seen. 90 degree turns on a time leaving the defender grasping for air. Wright did well last year against the Rockets as Reagan was already in playoff mode. Both teams need to play well and get ready for playoffs. Just a matter of wo wants it more. And who will play whom in the 1st round.

and playing for the Spurs. Judson does have history on its side and If not them then Wagner. I does not bother me which JSID scholl I follow, but change is on the way for Reagan as well, with LBJ coming on next year. It has to sting just when Reagan was making a small name for itself Bam a new high school takes it away. I gues they will go back to the Reagan I was used to, it will be like watching Roosy or Churchill chug along trying for 5 wins.I wish them all the luck in the world this year, after that it will be awhile. Reagan should win this. It is fairly easy to defend an offense as simple as Judson. Wright will run around, through, and over Judson's defense. And there is no one in the Judson secondary that can walk Wright, so if hits a seam, Good-Bye. You better have Cory and #15 check Walls on flow away, because if he pulls and you ain't home, he can hurt you.

i'll agree with that, after 9 weeks of football, you would think the offense has improved, yet the OC only calls a handful of plays that would let any defense know to put everyone in the box.

Reagan is good and Marcus Wright can put up 28-35 by himself if you dont play the best game of your season this week.. He is better than SV's Rios and he is better than anyone else you have seen all year...unless Leander has a better one....but I doubt that!! About what team will show up...Judson only has one team. They get on the bus and the drive to the stadium and then they play the game...Usually the best team wins..so far with Judson..according to all the Judson faitfull..Judson has been the best team each and every week...they just didnt play well or the OC makes bad calls or they took them too lightly!!! Now its Judsons defense will get angles...they are gonna need angles cause Mr. Wright is gonna wreck on the rockets all night long...why you ask...its not cause I hate the rockets....its cause the rockets arent that good!!!! And if Atwell is out....Judson might get shut-out!! I'll be rootin' for the Rockets but I just dont think they can do it!! Good Luck to both teams..Im gonna have to go see this one...is it at judson or comalander?

two are out for sure...one should play...weak this week...pray for full strength first week of playoffs...honestly, this game means nothing...we will go out to win, but it is the playoffs we better get ready for...yes, I am going against myself, but playoffs are what we played this season for...

Can you name those few plays? I have said in the past that Judson has a very basic offense this year, but they run more than a few plays. To the average fan, you see a dive play (between tackles), a sweep (outside of tackles), and a pass play. There are many different things that make a play different. There is the blocking schemes, the way the QB opens up, the number of steps in a QB's drop, does he sprint out or is there a guard out in front, or does naked out off a play fake. Judson hired there new offensive coordinator 3 seasons ago. They did this to make there offense more diverse, more open than it was under the old regime that kept winning State. You know the one that ran sweep, belly, and mixed in about 4 or 5 passes a game. Wait isn't that what they do this year. The new offensive corrdinator took the Rockets to a State finals appearance in his first year. In his second year he stumbled and was told to make it more simple and play smash mouth football. He has done what he was asked to do. Before the Wagner game many fans were talking about how the Judson defense was so dominate and the offense was coming around, after all they were coming off an impressive 3 game winning streak beating (Churchill, Roosevelt, and Mac). And now they stumble and it is all the offfenses fault. It is not the offenses fault, it is not the defenses fault, it is just not the same. The Rockets lost allot of Rocket pride when they lost Gibbens and Jeter. Those two guys were a huge part of why they were successful. And not only did they lose those tow guys, they lost a big part of their senior class to Wagner. It is without question that if still combined they would be very dangerous. They are not, the Rockets are not as talented as they were 4 years ago, and it is beginning to show against superior talent. The Rockets have back doored into the playoffs, be happy that they are there. Stop blaming the coaches and come to the reality that Losing those kids and coaches to Wagner have hurt Judson. Next year will be the first non-split senior class. When I say non-split, I mean started out at their respective high schools. I do not think the Rockets will beat Reagan and do not think they will be able to get past Bowie regardless of history. But I do feel they will be back in given time.

OK...here we go again...Judson will do this and Judson will do that and if the right Judson team shows up we will win and this ...blah...blah...blah..
Good Luck to both teams..Im gonna have to go see this one...is it at judson or comalander?
you make a valid point, but i get frustrated when it's week 10 and our offense is not improving as the season rolls on. I guess i've been spoiled the last 25 years. even in past years, the offense would gradually improve and by playoffs, rolling on all cylinders.....this year i don't see that, which causes alot of the concern from the Judson faithful, including me.
btw, It's the last game @ Rutledge, before it's torn down and rebuilt.

You are entitled to your .02 and I am mine. If you don't like don't read it. How can you say losing the kids to Wagner did not hurt you. Half of Wagner's front seven would be starting for you on defense. Can you imagine putting your two best d-lineman with Wagners two best d-lineman and not making your defense better. Can you imagine #3 for Wagner at the outside linebacker spot instead of tiny little Spivey. Can you imagine #33 from Wagner instead of Gifford. That is just starting on Defense. Can you imagine how much more depth you would have. And maybe it is not the plays, but the kids executing the plays. Maybe they just aren't as talented as you have led your self to believe.

How I see it is we have to make due with what we have, we can't use the excuse about Wagner. It is over an done with. Our D is fine just the way they are. I have never had anything negative about them. The boys all of them are great players. Wagner will keep improving and so will Judson. AGAIN MY .02.

I think some are saying that maybe the QB should be allowed to audible if they have 8 or 9 in the box call the hot route to the Y or Z. Use the other teams strength against them.

Are you positive he is smart enough to do that? In the pros they spend all week preparing and learning the audibles from their coaches. In high school you get eight hours. I do not think that is enough time to get to fancy trying to teach an average QB allot of audibles. Most QB's at the High School level can change the direction of a play, but not the whole play. To do this in depth, you would have to line up and wait for the defense to line up and then call a play according to there front. Wait that would be a no huddle offense. Maybe that is what Judson needs to do.

That what practice is for, I sure we had QB's in the past who were not as gifted as him, they were able to get the job done. The playoffs are coming up they have to do what it takes to win.

It should be nothing fancy when I played our QB's changed plays "check with me". They even called the hot route if there were many d-players on the line.

Yes, if they could do it so can this team, that is what practice is for and even players took it upon themselves to stay after (non coach instruction) to learn and watch the films because they had the desire to win.

Check with me ussually means that they give you two play options like 36 zone or 48 sweep. And the QB goes to the line and looks at the front and makes the call. It is not like he has the whole playbook to choose from.

I know but you did not need the whole play book. The QB was given possible plays and he called the play based on what he saw. We passed out of Check with me, just enough so the defense would not load up the line.

Most of SV's plays have basic checks built into them for the QB. On the stretch play for instance, if the DE is in a 9 technique (lined up on the TE's outside shoulder) the QB can check out of the stretch into the lead OR reverse the play to the other side of the field. If the DE is in a 7 technique (inside shoulder of TE) they run the play exactly the way it was called. This works great when SV runs a 2 TE formation.
Now a days, Coach Hill mixes it up more, by motioning the FB over, bringing the FB up into a tight slot, or motion a WR over to help on the block.
I see what some of you are saying though. Your QB doesn't need to be a genius to be able to audible a play. Just give him 2 or 3 choices on a play and he should be able to recognize which play is best based on the defense. Afterall, most schools expect their QB to be not only a good athlete, but a great student. A smart QB is the key at SV. Even if he diesn't fit the physical mold, if he's smart, he can make up for his lack of size, strength, or speed.

Reagan is a team that is very explosive offensively. They have a back (Marcus Wright) that is legite. He can go on any play. He placed fourth last year in the 100 at state. Their QB is a good runner also. If you pay to much attention to Wright with your backside end, he will pull it and can run. He can throw the ball decently, but his recievers are nothing to worry about, as long as your secondary is not trying to figure out where Wright is and stays in coverage. Defensively they are physical and will gt after you. They do not have an intimidating defense, but one that will hit you in the mouth. You will not have to worry about them in round one, they will beat Judson and play Westlake. Judson is a team with rich tradition, and a fan base that is nearsighted. They are not as good as they have been in years past. They are very simple on offense with no one player that really stands out. They run the sweep, Ctr, Power, and Draws. These four run plays make up about 75% of their offense. They will throw the ball when you cheat up and do it off a play action. Once again their recievers are nothing to break a sweat over, but will catch most balls that hit them in the hands. (Not real fast). Defensively they have good speed. It is better to run at them than away from them. Their strength lies in their secondary and their defensive ends. Linebackers are average and so are their Defensive Tackles. They will come in and stunt from all different direction to try to keep you guessing. I do not think it will be a repeat of 2002 when they snuck by you and the Griffin boys. They are not as good, and if you are anywhere near as close to being as good as you were then you should be alright. Limit your mistakes, they will capitalize on them.

I do not know if they smoke, I do not hang out with them on weekends. I have heard they have a good English department at Reagan so they should be able to read. And I think they are way to young to be playing Bingo already. :D

Bowie runs the ball pretty well between the tackles. Their bread and butter in the passing game is the short stuff, like hitches and slants. How does Judson play that? Are their corners fast? Big and fast? Our top WR is 6'3 210. He breaks tackles all day long. Does Judson have a CB that can matchup?

Not that big. Pretty fast and play well. Will run some man and some zone. Their safeties are pretty good. #2 is definetly their best corner. Like I said average size, but has a nose for the ball in the air.

Looking at past records, Reagan enjoyed their 1st winning season in their 6th season of varisty play and made the playoffs in their 7th season of existence. The Rattlers made the most of their 1st playoff appearance. In their 1st 7 years, Rattlers had a 30-44 record. In comparison, Judson in its 1st 7 years competing in the largest classification had a 40-33-1 record with 3 playoff appearance in their 4th year.

I had a nice answer to this this morning but then the intertron gave out on me and deleted it. But bubba gave a decent description. We've got a good offense if it gets going. One of the better runningbacks in the area. Wide recievers are, imo, good. Defense has dropped off a little and I like it when they blitz.

They're all smart. Smoking is a bad habbit and their favorite books are The great gatsby, the bean trees, beowulf, the canterbury tales and the lord of the flies. I'm not sure if they do play bingo but at project grad last year...I was tearin' it up.(ok, not really...I blew all my money at the blackjack tables)

If its possible for any of those old players to suit up Friday night and play...Douglas, Fox, Carter, Baker, Scott, Kennedy..Judson would have a chance this week...but unfortunatley they have to play with the team that has been practicing all year. And with all the injuries they are facing right now, I just dont see them winning this one. If Reagan turns the ball over about 6 or 7 times..they have a chance. They need to get through Reagan and get their best players healthy so they can try to make a run. If they get past Bowie then they can make a run...but I think Bowie will finally beat the mighty rockets

None of those guys played on those 1st 7 teams. Unfortuantely, you are correct about some injuries, but the number of players injured aren't as many as you may believe. As for Bowie defeating the Rockets, the odds are in their favor, if we play Bowie.

SV is Div. 2 (smaller enrollment division)
I rewatched the game today on TV, and Judson defense impressed more, than watching it live.
SV`s defense also looked good, except for three plays. The player that intercepted that last pass, was starting his 2nd game on varsity, he was brought up a couple weeks ago because of an injury. He played a great game, and is only a sophmore DB.
It looked like the player that blocked your son was Cervatez, who ran back the 1st int. for a TD. He`s all of 5'6, but is a hitter. It looked like a legal hit, your son was just focused on trying to catch the Sophmore.

Basically in the second half, Pawelek did`nt have hardly anyone open to throw to. he was scrambling, and throwing the ball out of bounds on many pass plays.
The guys that got open, were on long vertical passes that the recievers could`nt hold on to, kinda like the Judson - Lee game the week before. That looks to be the only area on defense that really needs to be adressed. SV missed on 3 good opportunities, with drops long.
I think we all know that if Judson can get their running game going , that they could go on a run in the playoffs. I think Swan for sure needs to be spread out more often, with Shaw at tailback. Swan to me is the go to guy. If he`s spread out wide, and/or put in motion, the defense has to respect him. He`s the one guy that can open this team up on offense. With that said, the running game is`nt so predictable.
Reagan can lull you into stopping Wright, and Walls will chunk some deep balls to a couple good WR`s that they have.
And you know if you play Westlake, they to love to throw some deep passes, in the playoffs.

Here is my take from being at the game. Judson played one good half. Wright was somewhat held in check for a half. Reagan dominated the 2nd half. Reagan just looks like the better team to me.

It is the past but it does stay with you forever, thats just the way it is. As for the future, yes SV has Judson's number, but again they are not the only one. You will see my friend about change it is coming to both schools so in the next 3 years this will be a moot point.
The Judson team I saw tonight does not look to have as much talent as they used to have. We got beat up on both sides of the line in the 2nd Half and haven't had a top-notch RB since we got kicked out of Kirby.

lonny23
11-09-2007, 11:44 PM
I see nothing right now to make me think Judson gets better so the rest of 26-5A and Region 4 needs to get worse.
lonny23
11-09-2007, 11:47 PM
If you could read I said that it was my .02. If I want to blame the coaches I will and yes losing the coaches to Wagner I agree hurt us but not losing kids. I have spoken on how the offense is not what it use to be for 2 years now, so please don't say that I am just now stating what I believe just because of the loses. You are entitled to your .02 and I am mine. If you don't like don't read it. From a regular football fan that watches the games I may not know all the different plays but what I see is the same over and over, and it doesn't work. Everytime straight down the middle and they hit a wall.
We may not get by Reagan but hey look what happened in 2005, we went into the playoffs 6-4 and where were we in December???? No one really knows who any of this is going to turn out.
We might play into December, but it's still frustrating. I don't want to win playoff games because the other teams are mediocre.

Even though the record is 2-6 in favor of Judson. Who would you say is the better team?:)

Bowie struggled in the first half vs. Seguin like shooter said. But the 2nd half was a different story. Outscored them 27-0 and finished it up 58-22. 7 of those Seguin points were helped by the refs giving them 4 timeouts in the first half.

They didn't have far to go. Game was in Seguin.
Did I mention I hate parking at that stadium?

Yes, well, imagine going to a Private School that has to use that stadium for its football team.
Course the football team sucks so bad they don't want to spend the $5 million to build our own stadium on our own land.:(
I have fortunately never visited this "matador stadium".

Reagan has the type of RB that Judson used to have. You have a better team because your best player is better than our best player.

I was in Seguin again on Monday. That place is a lot more unsafe than Converse.

Congrats to the Rattlers. Great 2nd half of football. Wright is a an enjoyable and frustrating player to watch and Wall had some great runs and passes as well. Your defense stepped it up in the 2nd half and shut down the lethargic Rockets offense. Great job by your DL & LB's. Your 1st round game against Westlake should be labeled the "Armani Bowl". Good luck in the playoffs; represent 26-5A and San Antonio area well.
