while a lot of people seem to be pretty hard on trinity junior QB denarius
mcghee because of his play in his second start ever against odessa permian.
he and his teamates played the worst game ive seen a trinity team play
this decade,alot of that has to do with the play of a very good permian team
and 5 turnovers,,,these are his numbers in the other seven games played..
49 comp 79 attemps 0 int's 6 td passes and 634 yds..
26 carries 72 yds 2 td's..
while they are not gaudy numbers, they are good...........
thank GOD, the kid didnt let one bad game bring him down,
shows alot of character, imo...........

I really don't think much of adults who use boards like these to bash a 16 year old kid playing football. And, that isn't just the Trinity QB; that goes for any kid out there who lays it on the line every week. It's gutless and says much more about the character of the commenter than the talent of the player.

Very true!!! And I won't go so low as to list the names of the individuals who call themselves adults ( maybe not) and get personal about kids' abilities. More times than not it is a person who is about as athletic as roadkill. This site is for discussion and some minor forms of trash talking. It surely was not intended to bash student athletes who give their all for something they love doing and their schools.
Sounds to me like these individuals need to get a security blanket, pacifier, and go sit in the corner where they belong!

He did his job against SGP, in workman like fashion. Converted 3rd downs when needed and lead the march down the field.

The comments are NOT from our friends, and opponents in the area and district. We are a support group for each other's teams. I trully hope this comes back to bite those we speak about. :puke

It definitely sounds like he has managed games very well since the one subpar outing. The kid is very talented, and I definitely see good things in his future. I don't think that any Permian fans that truly understand football would ever make any conclusions about a player based on a subpar outing against our defense. We have a history of making great players look average on occasion, but they are great players nonetheless. John Chiles from Summit last year was a really good high school QB that serves as a good example. He did not look as good as he really is when he played against us. That doesn't stop a lot of Permian fans from getting all excited about seeing what he can do at UT. I know some people have questioned your QB after that game, but I assure you that the vast majority of Permian fans wouldn't jump to conclusions about his abilities or leadership qualities based on one subpar day at Ratliff. He's a dangerous QB and I am sure he is a standup guy. I know there is this current level of animosity between our programs, but I have to say that I like what Trinity does, because they blend a very good football team with some good tradition and it really shows what Texas high school football can all be about. I would hope that most Trinity fans would recognize the same from our side. A few people from both sides will always make bad, uneducated comments, but I assure you that those of us in the know are not underestimating you or your QB. I look forward to seeing the kid at his best in a little over a month. :D

The Permian game was the only game I had a chance to watch him play and his talent was evident even so early in the season.
He had made some poor decisions that seemed to just be from lack of experience. I don't know a whole lot about anything and his potential was obvious even to me. The interceptions were (imo) the mark of a kid that wanted to make the play and nothing else mattered, not even the hard hits he knew were coming. Where a more experienced QB would give up on the play and throw it away - he hung in there trying to get something going. Showed a lot of grit and determination that day.

The one thing that sticks out the most to me is his demeanor. Even in the Permian game he maintained an even keel. He always comes to the sideline with his head up. I have yet to see him get flustered.

His steady growth & demeanor are just a few of the reasons Lineweaver tabbed him as the starter. It matters little where any player is in week 2, let alone a first year starter. At programs like Carroll, Katy, Trinity ect.. it's more about how far a player's come since week two. McGhee, like the rest of his squad, has been building a slow head of steam that has playoff domination written all over it. There are several things that Lineweaver knows well & what he wants/needs out of a qb is at the top of that list. I commend the young man for his determination & focus. It would have been real easy to dip his head after the Permian game. He didn't and look where they are now.

I think his "pocket presence" has come a long way this season.
PS - I would be curious to know what his QB rating is based on those numbers.

We ALL want to rave about the players that perform, and we have to tiptoe around the players that don't. Theads like this kinda puts it in perspective, it is hard enough just being a teenager today...then throw in the big stage athlete thing, the classroom, the girlfriend, whatever. These kids go through a lot more than I ever did!!!
