View Full Version : D-1 For Carroll?

The Dragons are the 2nd largest of the top 4 teams in 5-5A. Carroll @ 2,213, Ryan @ 1,981, Grapevine @ 2,053 and Fossil Ridge at 2,427 are the top 4 teams at this point. Obviously if Ridge does'nt make it, in this scenario, Carroll goes D-1.

Ridge's District record is 2-1 with the loss to Southlake Carroll. We just knocked off one of the district favorites Colleyville Heritage.
Ridge plays Grapevine this Friday.
If Grapevine wins, look for Southlake Carroll to be D1 where they will play Trinity 1st round.

I want Carroll to play Longview...I know Trinity has a good team and they want Carroll as well, and I know North Shore and Westfield have great teams as well...I just wish there was away to either have one champs so all these teams could lock up or the top ten teams could lock up for the state title which would be like the NCAA title and the rest of the teams could lock up for the NIT title...I know everyone wants a shot at Carroll and why not, they are the nation's and state's best...to be the man you have to beat the man...

What a nightmare scenario if SLC, Longview, and Trinity all go DI?
Any State Championship won at DII would be kind of hollow.
It just ain't fair!

Think about the nitemare of SLC playing Trinity in the first round lol. IMO those are the two best teams that would be in division 1.

That would be the best first round match up ever in my opinion. Southlake vs. Trinity...you kidding me? I'd have to get my fanny out of Houston for that one.
Fossil Ridge looks like they have a real shot at the playoffs though, so we'll see what happens against Gvine.

Fossil Ridge actually has a better chance for the playoffs than Grapevine. If they lose to Grapevine they can still beat Denton Ryan forcing a 3-way tie for second place. I don'e know what happens in the event of a tie like that though

There is no way Grapevine will make the playoffs, assuming SLC and DR are 1 and 2, Fossil Ridge or Colleyville will take the other spot. Grapevine wins have been against the 2 of the worst 3 teams in the district. Grapevine have only played one potential play-off team - DR and lost. SLC will go D2.

I dont agree with the second statment, how can you when 3 teams that would be DII almost beat SLC last year?

When there is a tie for second place, it's whoever scored the most points, I do believe.

that was last year, not this year. Abilene has looked unimpressive in their wins except for the one against a Missouri team. Smithson Valley although they beat a good Judson team, has already lost a game. Lufkin however is looking as dominant as ever.

I think that each district has their own tie-breaker rules, but I am not sure about that either. Whatever it is, I hope that it is not a coin flip.

In 2001, Longview had to wait for Lee to beat JT by certain number of points for us to go. If Lee beat JT by 10 points or more, we were going. If it were less than ten points or they lost to JT, we would be at home. What a nerve-racking Saturday afternoon for the Lobos.

That can't be right cause Tyler Lee won that game 14-9..
Tyler Lee just had to win as they were undefeated. We had already beaten John Tyler 40-7...Meaning they would have to win by I think 33..Or maybe Im wrong there but we beat John Tyler 40-7 that year I know that much.

If Carroll went the D1 route, imagine the road to a state title for either Carroll or Trinity. Facing each other in the 1st round, then possibly Plano in the 2nd round, only for that winner to catch a break in the regional final, then to possibly face Longview, with that winner facing either Westfield or North Shore. Gets me excited just to think about it.

Your right, this is this year and Lufkin is still great if not better, SV had lost 2 games by this time last year and only 1 this year, and there are other teams that have stepped up. There is no way anyone can say the DII teams minus SLC are not worth a crap, cause there are some that can beat them. There are a few in DI as well.

Something along those lines. I didn't remember the details.
I REMEMBER NOW! Yeah, if JT beat Lee by so many points, they would've gone to the playoffs.
Well, anyway...it may be along the same lines for their district.

People are saying if SLC goes DI which does not seem possible now, that DII will be nothing. This is what I am saying, there is still Katy, Longview, Lufkin, and SV that are just as good as SLC. DII will still contain very good teams even if SLC goes DI.

I think the road to state would be much tougher for slc in D1. Trinity first and then westfield. The only teams I see competeing with slc in D2 are LP and Lview and we all know on e of them goes home in the regional final. I just don't see anyone from Region 3 and 4 in D2 playing SLC close. SV has already lost a game and I just don't know if they are as strong as they were last year. I guess the only benefit in d1 for slc would be one less game.
On the other hand SLC going d1 really gives LP or Lview a better chance of a title.

Last time I checked, SLC lost to the last Region 3 team they played in the Finals. Like '03, I believe this year could produce a Reg. 3 sweep in 5A.

Everyone thinks that for Carroll to go Div I all that needs to happen is that Grapevine beats Fossill Ridge this Friday. That is not true. Fossill still will get a shot to beat Denton Ryan and Grapevine still would have to beat Colleyville Heritage, which is a really big rivalry game. There is a lot more football than just one game left

You still dont see my point, yes SV has lost one this year, but you dont have to blow out crappy teams by 50 to show you are good. One more time, SV lost two games last year... 2 games. The two teams that beat them, they beat this year. So really you could argue they are better than last year. Churchill was a fluke, and the score last week was a 7 point game against the same people last year. I think Katy can beat them too, oh yea, they did once a couple of years ago. Lufkin or Longview can also beat them. Dont get the big head of winning it all in DII if that is where SLC lands, they were almost proved wrong last year by a few teams in the playoffs. Most of those teams are right around where they were last year. That last team Haltom that SLC played had not lost a game had they? Does that make them better than SV? Get out in the football world and look at the competition that some teams face outside of the playoffs. Get some facts straight, and keep thinking DI will be a breeze for SLC. ;) Records mean nothing. San Benito were off to a 12-0 run last year beatting teams real bad, and SV won 55-0. They had more problems with some teams that lost a game, that was for sure. SLC will have a tought road in DI than in DII, I get that point. Facing Trinity first probably will end that road acually. They will win state in that D.

chhs will be gunning for their rivals, and could easily be in position for a po spot, in week 10. they need desparately to expand their offense to include anything besides ponder. he's a beast, but not capable of carrying a team by himself.

Dang... If playoff started now than it would suck for either one of the team if they lose because they are both best offense in state and possibly both will score 30 or more points.

CHHS Offensive production/gm = 425 -- 4th among DFW 5A (Good)
CHHS Defensive give/gm = 360 -- 51st among DFW 5A (not so good)
I see no desperate need. While it would be nice to expand the vertical game, credit must be given to the offensive coaches for making a huge change from last year.
Defense needs some focus.

when one player accounts for 95+% of a teams offense, as ponder did vs slc and as he has almost done most games i've checked on, there's a problem. can a team win consistently without any input from a rb? maybe yes, but i doubt it.

Without SLC in D2 then there is an opening for a new State Champ! Until someone can beat them SLC is still the #1 favorite to repeat as a State Champ.

I am curious about a couple of things....
I know Ponder has put up some excellent numbers so far.....but can someone tell me the following?
1. In CHHS non-district games.....how good were those teams and what is their combined record so far this year? My guess is those teams are terrible and Ponder ran up some good numbers against some weak competition...
2. Against SLC.....when the game counted, Ponders numbers were average...he had a long run against a prevent at the end of the half and most of his passing yards were when his team was down by 28 points....
Can someone comment on this???

Ponder is the real deal. The problem his he was their only offensive weapon. He has great size and strength and runs really well. He did not have receivers open that much and when he would throw to them they dropped a lot of passes. He has a quick release and is definitely as good as advertised

They have zero running game and a weak defense so Ponder has to do it all...
