The shooting last night in Richardson that killed a senior at Sachse High School, was this really related to the Berkner Lake Highland game or is that just a nasty rumor. The newspaper said the shooting in Duncanville was football related also

Out of the Dallas Morning News

"The fight was at least the third of the night Friday after a North Texas high school football game, including another one in Richardson and one in Duncanville. Nine other young people were shot in the three fights, but Jason's was the only death."

Does anybody see a HUGE problem that this is going on because of fans fighting over football games. Were any if the students football players?

Oh my goodness what are we going to do with our youth??

It may NOT be football realted so much as a continuation of a disagreement from school earlier in the day, and that the two parties were at the game? I could be wrong. I am just an outsider on this tragedy. My thoughts go to the families of every victim. And, also to the ones who did the shooting. Their families will be hurt just as much as the victim's families.

I created my account specifically to respond to this thread, so I'm sorry if this comes out a bit lengthy..

Word is that the RISD administration was aware that something might erupt at the football game between Berkner and Lake Highlands. Accordingly, there were plenty of police officers near the stadium, which sits in Dallas, during the game. They were able to squelch whatever may have happened outside the stadium and disperse the masses. After the game however, the scuffle moved to another part of Richardson where the shooting actually occurred.

It sickens me to say that I have heard from current students that this was gang-related. We need to remember that as the Dallas area grows, our communities effectively become smaller at the same time. Influences are more able to spread within the city and throughout the suburbs.

Now for my not-too-far-fetched theory..
For those of you in the area, I suggest you look into the DART expansion plans and push against the construction of a stop in your city or anywhere near your neighborhood. Richardson has three stops, one on the border with Dallas, and I fear that this is playing a huge role in facilitating the spread of such activity. I know for a fact that gangs, not just individuals, have been known to frequent the lines and steal from passengers on the train. These trains have all but eliminated the geographical borders we used to have between the inner-city and the suburbs. Riding up and down the lines are just one more thing for these kids to occupy their time with.

I was at the D'ville game(on the CH side strangley). During half time a gang of folks walked in some were wear Carter jackets some alot of em had sun glasses on looking like thugs. They went to sit above us. A few minutes later some policemen were up there breaking up a fight or something. I kind of found it funny untill I heard about the shooting but that had to do with D'ville students.. Kind of a shame....guess I'll run back up to my safe haven in Walmartville Arkansas haha...

I think they need to sell tickets to folks that sit in the stands. There should be no standing under the bleachers during the game. I remember at a Lufkin game last year, we were afraid to leave because all the kids crowded around under the bleachers. This happens everywhere, I just wish parents would keep up with their kids a little better.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get to the location where these shootings happened using DART? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get to any high school football game using DART? Compared to using a car? Get a clue dude. You may as well say, "Watch out for gangsters on unicycles!"

I heard about this. Seems to have gotten bad up there in Richardson. Was reading the Lake Highlands board this summer saying that gangs are begun to become a big problem which obviously made be worry cause we were going to Lake Highlands this year.

Luckily nothing happened to us as far as I know. I know during the 3rd quarter almost all of the LH student section ran up to the top of Wildcat-Ram Stadium and began watching as an obvious fight had began. Sure took a while for the cops to pass by. But I guess they got it settled...never heard anything about it after that.

Hope they get it settled. And fast. Just another reason why I hope we drop LH from our schedule.

I guess the Dallas area has gone straight to hell. Let's just burn the place down completely and start over.

No, kidding. But does it really surpirise anyone that much? Dallas is one of the cities in the U.S. with the highest crime rate. It's kinda violent up there. That's another reason not to like Dallas.

I don't know why it's not as violent down here in Austin. All the ingredients for it are in place.

It's sad, but we're in an era where its hard to feel safe. Some students I know had a gun pulled on them in the parking lot of the Garland vs. Ennis game (in Ennis)

That's seriously getting out of hand there.

You had better wake up and smell the coffee.... You can get off the bus or train a couple of hundred yards from Williams Stadium... Not that difficult to reach any location connected to Dallas...

Uhh.. yeah actually I do know how EASY it is. I live in the city and used to ride the train to work. Thanks though.

For whatever reason, the far south end of the RISD in the City limits of Dallas has been a rough area for 20 years. If I had stayed in Big D, my kids would have moved through the school system in that area - yikes - glad we didn't. I agree that DART doesn't help at all. While it makes little sense, I think there have been as many shooting incidents at Berkner and LH as anywhere in Dallas.

You won't hear about the shootings @ Dallas games....thats another discussion. It's a long walk from the nearest bus stop to Panther Stadium(Duncanville) so I doubt that had anything to do with that particular shooting. It kind surprised me when I heard Dallas had one of the highest crime rates in the country. I grew up in D'ville but I spent alot of time in Oak Cliff with friends and etc. I knew it was bad but I thought other places like Monroe(LA) and New Orleans were worse......oh well I guess thats not my problem now.

What? West Monroe? LMFAO.. Those people are too stupid to commit crimes..
NewOrleans is gone now.. So Dallas and Houston have moved up in the crime polls...

Really though. When football kids have the kind of examples they have (pro players) what do we really expect? Selfish kids is what we end up with.

I really wish I could remember the site I was on that gave the crime ratings and stuff.. I was blown away by some of the numbers. I really have never thought of Dallas as being as bad as what it is. But I tend to try and forget Dallas is there.. Except for the Cowboys..

Man, I was at that Lake Highlands game. Never felt safer. Was a bit strange to see a helicopter circling the stadium, but whatever...

Looks like there were some fights out by the LH rec. center.

As for LH (which is in Dallas, not Richardson), they're trying to make it another Highland Park, which I don't necessarily agree with, but it will make it safer.

I've lived in the heart of Dallas for years. Never seen a crime take place. I have NO idea where these lies about Dallas come from. It feels safe. Just as safe as Austin, Houston, etc.

Honestly, it wasnt even about berkner or lake highlands. It was a gang fight. People from the gangs might go to berkner, but most of them have dropped out or graduated. I was up there. We all went up to berkner parking lot after the game like we always do and the police told us to leave. We went up to sonic and a whole bunch of the people from the parkin lot went up there too. 50 - 100 black people were fighting while me and my friends were jus chillen 300 yards away. Shots were fired at us, making us hit the floor while we heard the bullets go by us. We left and found out that one of our friends died later that night. Richardson is going down hill. Wouldn't be surprise if another shooting happen because of retalliation of last week.

This is the problem with the inner city whether it is Dallas or Houston. It is the poor inner city blacks and mexicans that are causing the trouble. They are on welfare but can find money to buy a gun. Can't attend a game without one of them trying to rob you. Most of your inner city area around the country have this same problem.

no one is being racist. If it was 100 white people fighting, i would say 100 white people were fighting. Why does it have to be racist when it's the truth? Anyways, they have arrested a couple suspects that are 18 - 24 years old, all of them already graduated. And yes, fights and gang related things are normal around here... just not the fact that one of my friends dying.

Who cares where it is, the fact is that an innocent kid was killed. Don't start something between everyone when the issue is that someone is dead! This is no place for racial disputes or jokes SIR! Oddly enough the same scenario basically took place for me while I was at the Garland - Ennis game. After the game was over a bunch of guys started trying to fight us for yelling back to our busses while celebrating. Needless to say we had a 9 millimeter pulled on us for celebrating, thankfully there were no deaths. I am very sad that this type of behavior happens over a high school football game. Anyway my heart and thoughts go out to the victims, and I hope that this doesn't happen over any other high school football games, since the conflict did errupt at the game... it was not just a random act of gang violence.

This scares me...

My school (refered to by the LH people I know as "the white boy private school") has to frequent RISD facilities for 10-5A competition. I've never had a problem...though I don't feel that safe leaving Wildcat-Ram Stadium, especially after our 2 overtime wins there last year.

Richardson does have gangs, particularly at the two western schools (LVB and LH), but it is far from inner city...DISD is the "inner city" district.

I don't think that DART has anything to do with the shootings. It sounds like the people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time...why else would a Sachse HS student die in a brawl at Wildcat-Ram Stadium.

I know something similar to this happened back in 1987 or so with a brawl at Sprague between Velt and Carter, with a Hillcrest student dying. Then, two days later, there was another shooting at Hillcrest.

The crime problem in Dallas IS improving...two years ago we were #1 in crime rate, now we're down to #5.

Exactly, this kid was there to support the players that his grandfather, and father both coached. It was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I just hope and pray that these types of events will not take place in the future at any high school football game.

Ohh Noo not West Monroe, I'm talking about across the Quachita river off 165 in South Monroe Winnsboro Road, Burg Jones.. and that Richwood area(Near the back of the Louisiana Purchase). My immediate family(Parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles) from that area. That might just be the worst area in Monroe, nothing there has changed in like the last 30 years it's the poorest section of the City. Oak Cliff isn't THAT bad but South Dallas and parts of West Dallas are horrible....no one has any business going to S.Dallas outside of the state fair....or a high school football game.
