View Full Version : Plano East vs. Plano

This becomes a huge game for my Plano East Panthers. With the loss to Wylie, East has not locked up a playoff spot and face the best 2 teams in 9-5A back to back needing a win to get into the post season. If we lose these next two games, we will need help.
Wylie controls their own destiny if they can take Plano West and Lake Highlands.
I don't see LH getting past Allen next week.
Plano West needs to win out to have a shot.
Let the smack talk begin...
GO EAST!!!
I can't be objective on this one...:p
I pick my Panthers to upset the Wildcats!!!

East looked horrible against Wylie. No heart and determination. East will have a very tough time against Plano. Plano wants this win badly. It's payback time!!!

If East loses out there is no way for them to get in. They are short on every tie breaker. The likely scenario is Plano West or Berkner to get the last playoff spot. Allen, Plano, and Wylie are going to be in. The last spot will come down to the week 10 match up between Berkner and West.

If Plano doesn't look any better than last night, East can win.
I have missed the last two games and was amazed at how they looked. I thought they were supposed to be better in week 8 than in week 1. I hope it was their bad game.
If they don't pull their heads out, they will be a one and done.

I would like to see Plano East win. I don't like them when they play Allen, but I sorta have a soft spot for them otherwise. But I think their psyche is damaged beyond repair now.

Neither one of these teams seams to be playing well at this critical time of the season. I think if they do make the playoffs, they will both be one and done. I was hoping Plano would hang around long enough to play Permian in the playoffs. Mojo owes them an :Censor:whooping or two from a long time ago.

I'm not quite sure why everybody thinks Plano is playing bad after the week seven game. They are 7-1. I can understand the East playing bad statement. I'm rooting for East but would bet on Plano if I was a betting man.

Lets don't over react. You will always have games like this during the year. The defense played well and Plano made the plays when needed to win.
It was just one of those nights. Defense is playing very well. Offense will be fine. Plano is giving the ball more to Burkhead as the season goes on. It looks like they limited his carries during the first half of the season to get him ready for the stretch run so he will have fresh legs. He had 23 carries against West and I expect the same against East this week.
I would rather win a game 14-9 than 56 to 49 anyday. A good defense always will bail out a offense that has a off night.

Every team has occasional games like this during a 10 game season. Hebron barely got past a Lake Dallas team 3-0 during their 16-0 state champion run.
The key is how Plano comes out in the next game against Plano East. If they come out flat in that one, you got problems.
I'm picking Plano over PESH.

The East defense has shown it cannot stop the run especially when it stays in a 3 man front all the time. #20 will have a hayday against us due to that and our offense won't have enough time on the field to get enough points to win. Not sure why they don't adjust and try to stop it against Wylie or Berkner. I have to hand it to the Wylie QB as he was cool as a cucumber on drives down the field and did not make mistakes like our QB did.
East has gone downhill since week 3 and I can't put a finger on what all has gone wrong outside of the defenses inability to stop the run and the offense looking like they are not on the same page. They need to have the desire to win at all cost and some don't play that way as a team.
I am hoping they come in with the heart it takes but in reality it seems as East will miss the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.......that really bums me out.

If that is the case then does east even want to be in the playoffs. A 4 game losing streak is no way you want to go in and I would expect them to bow out in the first round regardless who they play.
If East does lose their last 2 then I expect Wylie to get in at the 4th spot which will put Allen in Division 1 and could meet Plano again in the region finals.

My bad, I looked at it wrong - going from memory.... If Wylie beats West, and even if East gets beat twice, the best West can do is tie with East and East will get in because they beat West. So the big game this weekend is Wylie vs West.... Love this time of year!

Wow what a disappointment. We were once 6-0 and in the drivers seat for a playoff spot and we are now depending on someone else to lose to help us crawl in the backdoor. I have absoultely zero confidence in this DC, a u-haul for him and a kick in the *** to the defense from our returning D starters would help. It is time for the East team leaders to circle the wagons and prepare this team for the friday night showdown!!!!!

Plano has the much easier mental challenge than East does this week. This is their last real game of district play, isn't it? (Sorry Richardson fans). All they have to do is win this game, then basically have two weeks to prepare for the start of the playoffs. Lucky stiffs...
On the other hand, East has the toughest road of anyone left in contention for the playoffs. Never mind that they're playing the top two teams in the district in a span of 6 days (with the second game having the added pressure of being televised). They haven't given themselves any breathing room now that they've lost two games in a row. And with no breathing room, it's pretty easy to panic when the chips are down. That's pretty much how things are looking to me, as an outsider. They're panicking big time. Dudes...doesn't your coach preach anything about maintaining your composure and concentrating on executing well? It's the standard sermon in an Allen locker room. :)
Totally advantage Plano this week.

Those things may play into East's hands.
Basically East is in the place that they found Berkner in two weeks ago when Berkner came out and played the best game of their season. Looking at it as a whole this is East's last chance, they win or its over. Sure they can get help and there is always the chance of them beating Allen, but they have too look at this as their do or die game. If they get one more when they're in the playoffs, if not things are grim.
Right now it seems to me East has forgotten how to win. Ever since something bad happened to them against Berkner it seems like they realize something else bad could happen and they are just waiting for it. They can get over this, it will not be easy by any means, but as long as they just go out there forget about the past and play they should be all right.
If East wins the next two games (which they can do) their regular season is a huge success, so all is not lost. No doubt this will be one of the bigger Plano Plano games to have come around recently.

You want to know about the 2 biggest games ever in the series? you need to go back 20 years to the 1985 and 1986 games. Biggest game ever for East was 1985 and for Plano was the following year in 1986.
1985 was the 4th meeting of both teams. East had made the playoffs for the first time and went 3 rounds deep in 84. Plano was the defending district champ and had beaten East easily the previous year 23-3. Both teams were 5-0 and Plano was #1 in DFW and East number #5. Long story short East pulls the upset 21-17 by scoring a touchdown with 38 seconds to go after they had a 4th and 10 on their 20 yard line and completed a 54 yard scramble for your life hail mary play to a receiver named Tom Cadematori. The previous play on 3rd and 10 Plano's Middle Lineback James Lee dropped a int that hit him between the 2 and 7 of his Jersey. Plano goes on to lose to Berkner 17-14 in a monsoon at Wildcat Ram the following week goes 8-2 and misses the playoffs the only time in the 80's. Plano folks say the 85 team was more talented than the 2 preceding state champion teams. East Wins district and finsishes 11-2.
1986 Last game of the season Plano 7-2, Plano East 6-3. Winner goes to the playoffs. Loser goes home. Plano dominates and wins going away 28-6 the option never looked so good and powers itself into the playoffs and wins its 6th straight game on the way to a 29 game winning streak and back to back state titles and allows Tom Kimbrough to be coach of the decade in 5A.
Anyone else have some Plano, Plano East memories that top those 2 games?

Never give a desperate team hope. PESH knows that their back's are firmly against the wall, and that they can not depend on other teams to win and lose to get into the plahyoff's.
I believe PESH will play an inspired game led by Smalls and pull off the upset to lock the playoff spot. 3 weeks ago I think you could have argued that PESH was the favorite but my how have things changed so drastically.

Dude...this is more than just a loss to Berkner. This is an attitude that, I think, was born last season when it ultimately ended a bit miserably. There was a lot of gritching amongst the East faithful from the loss against Allen all the way through to the loss against Spring Westfield. Bad coaching decisions, "we wuz robbed," wrong players in the wrong positions at the wrong time, we would have won if Riko Smalls was out there...yada, yada, yada. And, it can't have helped that their head coach was ready to bail and head for SLC had he gotten the offer.
Nope...this was a storm that's been brewing for a long while. If there is any way they can quell the panic, they stand a healthy chance of winning the game this week. But, I wonder if their coach knows how to convey the proper message. Past history hasn't shown that, but Ringo may surprise us all this week.

East has the offensive power to score enough points to win but lately it is the defense that has failed them.
There only chance IMO is to go to a 4 man front and hope they can slow down Burkhead enough to score 1 more TD than Plano. I think if Mike L were still the DC this would happen, I am not so sure with the new guy Rapp...... he does not have the fire em up and stop em in his coaching style it seems.
I hope East can pull off an upset but I have seen the decline since week 3 and I don't know if the team as a whole has the desire and a punch em in the mouth attitude it will take to win. The proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Thank you!
I've had a good time doing it. And MaxPreps basically gives me free reign as far as choosing which games I want to go to each week. If someone requests me to go to their game, I've usually done so (except for one case in Texarkana on a Friday night - I work a 40+ hour a week "regular" job so it's hard for me to make that drive and get to the game on time).

Good Game. Much closer than the final score with East turning the ball over on downs with a little over a minute left with the score 14-21. East receivers could not hang on to the ball tonight and it killed drives. Plano on the other hand made plays including the 73 yard bomb that ended up being the winning score.
East had a chance to tie it up before the half but there seem to me not to be enough urgency with Riko. Not sure a few more seconds would have made a difference, but East ran out of time inside the Wildcat 15.
Riko throws 3 interceptions in the game which lead to Wildcat points. Turnovers hurt the Panthers. Credit to the Wildcats for capitalizing.

Yes East Receivers did make some good catches, but there were at least 5 drops that hit them right in the hands or numbers. Stalled drives and made for long 3rd downs. You must have been at the consessions.
Also, East committed several penalties that cost them, like the one on the fake punt that made them really punt it. And there also a very questionable and critical call when Plano was punting and East was called for encrochment. I did not think that East touched anyone. But I guess they ruled that the East movement caused the Plano lineman to jump. In any case, Plano made plays and East did not. Plano deserved to win the game.
And one more thing... great friendship shown between both teams after the game with several players from each team hugging and talking. Great sportsmanship by both teams!:)

A great game for both teams. Turnovers and penalties were the difference. 4th quarter and score was tied, East had the game where they wanted it and just could not make the play. The 4th and one motion penalty was a killer on the fake punt. But I tip my hat to the Cats as they were the best team tonight and wish them well in the playoffs. No shame to be a Panther tonight as the boys circled the wagons and made a stand. The East DC woke up and went to a 4 man front and that helped, especially in the 2nd half. Were down to Allen and we need a W.
Go East!!!!!!

no concessions, but i skipped the pesh halftime- please explain what that was all about. the defense can't be in the neutral zone when the offense jumps. i was yelling fake when the punt happened. the defense certainly didn't pick it up. easy first. pesh is going to be the best team in the state to starty basketball in week 1 of the po's.

Plano is to blame IMO. Years ago Plano's band started to play to their own fans as visitor. East continued to play to the Home side as visitor but eventually switched to playing to their own side as visitor (at games against Plano only). It is one issue that I am very dissapointed about with the leadership a Plano Senior High. And I wish East would ignore it. Any comments Wildcat?

Good game.
East will have to beat a tough Allen team next week to get into the playoffs.
I agree that it was a much closer game than indicated. But 2 plays exemplify the lack of disciple that East continues to show. Fourth and 1 in Q4, East had set up to punt. Everyone knew it would be a fake, but it appeared to be set up well enough to overome the obvious. An illegaL motion penalty killed that one. Then, Plano in a 4th and 4 from about the 50 later in Q4., East jumps offsides and gives Plano 4 more downs. There are other examples, but these are just 2 that are ruining a great East opportunity for a fantastic season. Fourth down penaties and unforced turnovers will kill a team.
A fun game though.

East is to blame for not being their on person.
again, Plano has played to their on fans for since before DD was quarterbacking(and that is a long long time) and it will stay that way. Our fans like our band and wants to hear them. Most people don't care what is happeing at half time any way.

I was stuck in the consession line for 45 minutes waiting to get a freakin coke. So I can't comment on the halftime show other than when I came back to my seat it was still going on. Holy Cow!! Can we keep half time to 25 minutes.
Only compliant on PSHS leadership is open up all the stinkin consession stands. The home side has 4 and they open only 2. Thus the 45 minute wait. you would think they could equate the need to lessen the wait times could equate to more sales and money for the school.

Usually politics at a school affects which concession stands open or don't. Frequently, a group is assigned a concession stand to operate as "their" stand and they don't arrange for the volunteers necessary to operate it at all games.
Dig a little. You might find a reason like that for not opening all of them.

Great game like I expected it would be, the game came down to one step and a raised hand a couple of inches short.
Thought the East D moving to that 4 man line really stepped up to the line and played great. I dont feel bad about losing this, the last two weeks east beat themeselves, last night they played great and just didn't make enough plays and Plano has a great team.
Was a great game, not so sure about east being "out athleted" like Plano's QB said on fox but I'm sure he wasnt meaning to be disrespectful.

East beat themselves.... as to the great catches or dropped passes both happened. Riko was his usual 50% on target but did cost us on 2 of the 3 Int's due to long lazy throws or high shots past our receivers.
He needs to have a game where he hits at least 60% and throws no Int's to even stay close with Allen. The penalties at crucial times were the next enemy, geez 2 of them kept the Cats on the field.
Lastly the defense let 2 big pass plays get them after doing so well shutting them down in the third.
Down to 1 last gasp against the best team in 9-5A. Will the real East please stand up!!!

Not a chance. Plano hates East like you hate your kid brother. Plano hates Allen like the neighborhood bully. Go EAST!!!
