This one is tough because I really like these two team and I love their programs. If I had to pick, I'd say Trinity comes back to take the rematch. The only thing I feel comfortable guaranteeing is that round 2 will be the kind of game we thought we were getting earlier this years.

Trinity was soundly beaten in the first game. It was not a fluke. No excuses. That being said, if Trinity plays to the level we've seen the past few weeks and doesn't turn the ball over, then Trinity wins. Yes, I'm a homer. Sue me.

I think Trinity takes this game, only because they are done experimenting. The first of the year was a trial period for Trinity. Now that they are back to smashmouth football, they have been dominating. I believe this will be the case with Permian should the match up occur.

I was wondering...Does Trinity's QB pass better than he did in that first meeting???

I think you should ask Stinger:eek:
Both teams are improving and playing better. After tonight we will know a lot more about how much MOJO has improved. That being said, MOJO took it to the Trojans in week 2. Both teams have played some good opponents and some not so good. MOJO has the overall tougher schedule and has the Abilene game tonight that will test the Panthers toughness. ET, on the other hand, has no one left after last weeks clash with IrvMac(which is not that big of a test, they haven't really played anyone, their record is deceiving). I think the game will happen and I think it will be closer than the last meeting, but MOJO, I believe is the better team this year. My feelings have been and remain, that Arl Bowie meets MOJO in the R1 fianl. JMO

Smash-mouth alone won't beat Per. To beat Per., you can't be one-dimensional; you have to run & pass it both & then play great def. I don't think anybody can run it on Per., not even ET (& ET is a great running team).

He's hitting about 56% of his passes and has not thrown an interception since the Permian game. Is he ever going to be a Riley Dodge back there? No, but that is not what Trinity quarterbacks are asked to be. Permian deserves all the praise and kudos from the first game with Trinity, but this is not the same team it was in week 2. Ever since they settled in on the o-line, they have looked very Trinity-like.
And, good luck to Permian tonight in Abilene. I'll be pulling for you.
Good grief that was a long answer. Must cut down on the caffeine.

It's still a long way off, but if this game happens it could be the game of the year. Trinity is so loaded with talent that you can never count them out. Last time we played, we handled them and caused turnovers. We would have outscored them even without the points off turnovers, but it would have been much more competitive. That clock couldn't run fast enough for me in the fourth quarter. That being said, if we remain healthy I think we win this rematch too. Our defense really didn't give up much of anything on the ground until the fourth quarter. I have felt like we haven't given our defense much credit all year, but they were the stars of that game. They gave up 247 yards of offense, and a big portion of those came late in the third and fourth quarters when our guys were playing prevent. I know ET is a different team now, but so are we. I think every team in the state improves throughout the year unless something crazy happens on the team. I would expect the rematch to be a very entertaining, very competitive game though. I would hope that we would take a neutral site for the rubber match in the playoffs, but our coach seemed to want a home/home flip for every game last season. Maybe we oughta do the Jones Stadium/Texas Stadium package that we did with SLC.

Abilene would be ideal because it is a neutral site. Like I said though, last year our coaches flipped Home/Home with everyone in the playoffs, so I don't know if they would agree to it. I know that if this game happens, there better be plenty of seating though. There will be a lot of people from different areas that want to see this game, especially if it happens around the Metroplex. I still don't want to get ahead of ourselves here though. We have a huge game tonight and another violent rivalry left before we even get into the playoffs.

The Trinity team of week 8 is totally different to the Trinity which lost to Permian earlier in the season. I think the jury is still out on Permian, but today's game against Abilene will say a lot about both Abilene and Permian.
I still maintain that Trinity made too many uncharcatcistic mistakes against Permian, one of those mistake being to travel to Odessa there and back in the same day.
Much will depend on where such a play-off game is played, but today I slightly favor Trinity to win. This is a no lose situation for me; as I really like both teams. If either Trinity or Permian makes to a State Championship game I will happy and I will happily support either team.

I would have to say that when you meet someone in the regular season and play them again in the post season, the team that lost the 1st time has the advantage.
e.g Katy vs Hastings 2002 Regular season Katy Lost 14-13, Quarterfinals Katy 30 Hastings 0. However two years earlier they beat Elsik twice once in Dsitrict and once in Quarterfinals.
Whoever wins, I think it will be much closer.

I agree with that. Both programs have extremely loyal fan bases. Trinity would draw alot of folks other than their own based on the 05 title & the game they treated us to last year with Carroll. Throw in Permian and all the interest their program generates & I think a playoff rematch would draw a phenomenal crowd.

The only possible downside to this is the idiots that run Texas Stadium. They'll probably try a book a quadruple header, giving no thought to the 50-60 thousand that would be there for these two games alone. Regardless of the aggravation, you couldn't keep me away from seeing those 4 programs playing those two games.

Texas Stadium was packed last year ET/SLC with just the people in the area.
People walked for over a mile just to park. Traffic was backed up all over. ET's band was late and SLC's cheerleaders due to the traffic. I can't imagine what a matchup with those four teams would do. You would have to get there 4 hours early to make sure you weren't in the traffic and you could get a decent seat. This would be the a great double header.

I went at the last minute (2 hrs before the game) and I work 5 minutes from the stadium  and I know all the short cuts and I still missed the HAKA . The traffic was worse than a Cowboy game or any accident that occurs around Loop 12 during rush hour....it was backing up at least 5-7 miles coming north from I14...it would have been quicker to walk from the airport to the stadium (exaggeration, approx-10 miles or less) but it would have been worth it. By far, one of the best high school football games ever, IMO.
Since it looks like it won't happen this year, the MOJO and the HAKA, and SLC and KATY in one stadium on the same day in Texas Stadium.

MJguy I think that the home or home option is the first option or question ask the coach's but if either balks and refuses(they can) the chance of home or home then they are ask to agree on a common nuetral site. If they don't agree on a common neutral site each picks his nuetral site and the coin is tossed.

Two of the best -- if not THE best defenses in the state. It would be a heck of a game. Trinity ran the ball moderately well in the first game (180 yards) behind a makeshift o-line with starters out. Now that starters have been in place for a few games, I suspect they would run the ball much better.

well what happens when Trinity fans are so overconfident?
you make us sound like we are OHS...
Trinity fans aren't talking smack about your quarterback, saying he can't do anything.

another what if...
cinco ranch and cy ridge meeting again 1st round?
ridge won the 1st match in week 0 41-21 but all but 8 cinco players had never even played a varisty game before. Now that they are accustomed to varsity, will there be a diferent result? or is shepherd still too much for cinco?

You think ET Quarterback can beat a team??? Cause, you'd be wrong...
Go Mojo!!!
Ledt me say it AGAIN!! The quarterback LEADS the TEAM>>>>and he has done just that since the first game. And...believe me...Trinity is taught the TEAM concept very well....just hide in the bushes and watch. If the teams meet again, and if Trinity comes out on top I will have the CROW buffet line open. If Permian wins, I will be the first in line.

Sounds like some of them are getting there already. That can be a fatal move. Trashoing the Trinity quarterback is a mistake. He has burned several players and teams that have underestimated him. He is not a Romo, but he has talent that some cannot see. He can get out of trouble, his passing is much better. He utilizes his line. Beware......:rolleyes:;)
I think to see it, because its hidden so well, that you would have to look through your haka tinted glasses. That is also very difficult, looking through haka, it gets a little cloudy.
This whole MOJO/ET banter is really fun, I am not even a fan of either. I do like history and MOJO has plenty, but ET has some very good history of late. This would be a very hard fought game and one I would drive to see. MOJO has the better team, whether any of you ET fans want to admit it or not. I would have hard time saying that about my team. Both have potential to go all the way. Good luck to both.

If Trinity and Permian meet again soon, I hope the Permian team, coaches, and fans severely underestimate Trinity, and are over-confident of a win. ;)
It didn't happen in September on the Mojo side and it won't happen in December on the Mojo side. Fans do not factor into that equation - it's their job to crow about their team. So you can hope our coaches and players are overconfident, but that and a quarter isn't gonna get you a cup of cheap coffee.

But this time I feel the results will be different. I realize that anything can happen, but following Trinity has made a lot of people confident that they have made the improvements and adjustments necessary.:D

I'm sorry I must clear something up.The Trinity fans don't believe Trinity would win simply cuz there our team.We believe we would win because of whatwe've seen with our own eyes in addition to the trust in our great coaching staff. While I have NO problem with someone thinking Permian would win.But don't be foolish and dismiss our confidence that we're would win as simply homerism.More importantly we're more concerned with earning the privilege of playing Permian, and that starts with Irving. As for our QB he's a LOT better than what he showed in 3-30 which was only a snapshot of the season, but so is the entire team, but that's something you can take or leave. But I'll tell you this one of the reasons some of the non-Trinity fans have picked Trinity to win against a team they lost 3-30 on national tv is because of the Trinity history both recent and further back. And it simply says this certainly is not the program to evaluate on a snapshot. But alas our current business is with the Irving Tigers!

I haven't had the privilege to see Trinity play since we played them, but it sounds like they have their ducks all in a row and they are firing on all cylinders now. I understand that they aren't the same team that they were in September and that the QB has been really good at managing games since then. HOWEVER, the reason that everyone seems to think Trinity wins the second time around is because they have seen Trinity improve. Let me make this clear. They are not the same team they were in September. We know that. Neither are we. We have improved at every position and we are even deeper than we were at that point in the season. I won't predict an easy win again, because that would be crazy. You guys have an outstanding team no matter how you slice it. We understand that. We just feel like we have an outstanding team as well. Our offensive game has changed quite a bit since we played, and our defense has improved steadily. You believe that Trinity will win for the same reason we believe Permian will win. You have seen improvement on your side. Have you watched Permian since? For most Trinity fans, the answer is probably no. You could seriously take your post and change it to a Permian fan's point of view and the point would be just as valid. Anyone that claims to have a foolproof prediction is full of it, because this one could really go either way if we meet again.

Heck yeah, it's going to be a blast. I know that Texas Stadium is only like 15 minutes from Euless, but I actually wouldn't mind playing there at all if Southlake and Abilene High play there the same day. That would be an awesome double-header and there would be a TON of black in that stadium.

Yeah, it's going to be real confusing on game day with the fans on both sides wearing black. Not going to make for a real colorful stadium but it will be great.

I don't sound like I am underestimating anything (read a few of my posts) You're right, however, that there are some Permian supporters who are gonna underestimate ET and every other opponent we face. But (and I repeat) - it has no bearing on the people who actually get the job done. That would be the Permian and ET coaches and players. Not you, not me, and not anyone tossing out wild suppositions. That was my point, thank you for missing or ignoring it completely.

I agree that any statements made about someone a kid like that are totally out of line. There are fans like that in every town though. I have heard classless remarks from every fanbase this season, and I don't think that it is characteristic of any given fanbase. I agree that these are kids and we should not single them out in a negative light at any point. Anyone that does so is pretty low.

It was only a few years ago that I was pouring my heart and soul out for the same reasons. I have heard good and bad things from our great fanbase in years since, so I know how it can feel sometimes. You will never catch me calling out a player for a negative reason as far as their abilities or quality off play between the whistles as long as the effort and spirit is there. No kid ever loses for a lack of effort or spirit in either of our programs.

Hey Boss - if we are so blessed as to have another meeting of our two teams - I am gonna suggest to our booster club to have a shirt made for this one kind of like you were looking for when you were at our house. Kind of like just a commemorative shirt. I know it's a playoff game and not the same, but I thought it was a good idea after hearing you describe the one you thought we were selling.

Hardy HarHar, know your history one season to the next. 1986 we went 10-0 and lost in round 1, 1987 we went 5-5. This is true. However, KoolAid drinker, the 1986 season is the year that the incoming Freshman class went 10-0, as Sophmores went 10-0, as Juniors went 9-1 and
as Seniors went 10-0 and 2 rounds deep in the playoffs(lost to Lamar by 1 ponit in the final minutes of that game, which we had the lead until the end). I shouldn't have to explain my handle, but for some of you, "the ones know who they are", I do this as a courtesy.
The 1986 season was the beginning of a "Commitment to Excellence". Now it is a "Tradition of Excellence". "When Excellence becomes Tradition, Greatness has no Limits."
Go pick up your pacifier, or pick up your bottle full of KoolAid, or get your floaties on for the kiddie pool if you're going to throw underhanded comments around that have no factual basis behind them. It's suppose to be fun, not personal. And yes, I take it personal when you attack something you know nothing about. :p
