Some of these schools are in areas that are growing. Depending on the cut-off, number these schools could move from 4A to 5A and cause a big re- districting situation around the area. Growing by 100 to 200 students would not be surprising . I think the cut off will be around 2050-2100.

No. No you're wrong. Don't you know UIL uses Highland Park's enrollment as their cutoff? They'll never move up!

oktOber, you hit it right on the money.

This has happened, it seems like, the last few times the realignment has rolled around.

Mckinney 1893 - Going up

Midlothian 1877 - Going up
Waxahachie 1929 - Going up
The Colony 1976.5 - Welcome back to 5A.
Highland Park 1957.5 - Will rig numbers to stay 4A with help from higher places.

Highland Park has been 5A, or the largest class several times in the past. They could be a big factor in some district. Been even enrollment for years.

Some schools will be going down.
The Dallas 5a, will lose Carter. amd maybe Sunset, but big groth in Hispanics may keep Sunset in 5A.
Carrolton Smith and Turner are on the cusp with little or no growth. If they move down, who will replace them in that district?
Jesuit has a limited enrollment and could very well move down.
Some of the first ring burbs are like innercity and are going down in enrollment, Like Richardson and Lake highlands. It would be logical for them to be in the Dallas district in 4A OR 5A. Lake Highlands is in the City of Dallas anyway.
South Garland, the smallest school in 10-5A is borderline. but even if they drop below the cut off they would opt up to keep the Garland ISD together.

My friend went to school at Highland Park and is now coaching at a 4A high school on the coast. I've brought this up to him before. He says there are 2 factors at work keeping them 4A. Highland Park is landlocked. It is surrounded by Dallas and cannot grow, thus no big influx of students. Secondly, a lot of parents in that area send their kids to private schools (ultra rich kids).

I would love for HP to finally be in 5A. I'd like to see what they could do. They usually beat 5A schools head to head, but they don't have to play them every single week.

Like I said before, HP has been in and out of 5A or the largest class before. They have been in the district with the Garland schools, and the Plano and Richardson schools. HP will not "grow" but new people move in with the tear downs and restoration of older homes. Many move there specifically for the schools.

Jesuit can't move down. (Unless there was a lawyer involved.)

I'd love to see HP get involved in the mess.

Could be an interesting UIL this time around.
Not a lot happenin', but kind of interesting.

Also very little if any affordable family size apartments in the areas compared to similar sized towns, that also keeps the school enrollment down.

Will they raise the limit of the cutoff between 4 & 5 A?

Yep they have to play in 5A under the UIL rules if memory serves me correctly.

Who would have thought these two schools would be in 5A?

Midlothian has an awesome stadium. Just thought I would point that out.

If Midlothian and Waxahachie become 5A, it would force a pretty sizable realignment - hopefully pulling the Mansfield ISD back into a more eastern district.

I did not know that. They are in the city of Dallas too. If they would put Jesuit, Lake Highlands and Richardson in the Dallas 5A district it would help the quality a bunch.

Look for Rockwall to drop to 4A. It has been reported several times that the AD, Mr. Elam stated that Rockwall would drop(?).

No way! Thats one of the fastest growing areas in the state. Rockwall had 2468, and Heath had 1706 for the 06-08 period. Maybe he is thinking about a future new school. Just the growth up 205 to Lavon and around Fate will keep Rockwall a mid size 5A school.

If John Tyler drops and maybe even Longview, there will be a new look to the Dallas Co. East side/Mesquite district. Lee and Lufkin COULD be the only 5As left in East Texas:eek:

The last 2 years Rockwall had all the seniors in town, but now Heath has a full class (9-12); so the numbers are lower. I think last year's senior class was ~820 kids and this year the incoming 9th grade ~430 (2468-820+430=2078).. Just depends on the what the UIL cutoff is..:D

The line for Rockwall/Royce City comes into play around certain sub-divisions out towards Fate.

I believe I read somewhere that Homer Johnson expects Rockwall to drop next year, too.
