I thought I would get this thread started because it will be an exciting week of HS football for 9-5A. Many of the games this week will have playoff implications.
ALLEN OVER RICHARDSON: Congratulations Allen. You get the week off. You have certainly earned it staying undefeated in this district.
PESH OVER WYLIE (UPSET WATCH): Wylie (like Berkner) is on the verge of missing the playoffs. They will be playing lights out ball for 4 quarters. But, I think East learned its lesson last week against Berkner and will be prepared.
PLANO OVER WEST: Plano has been the most consistent team in 9-5A. I think that continues this week against West. Although anything can happen in 9-5A, Plano is the better team here. The Wildcats will be well prepared and won't take West lightly.
BERKNER OVER LH: Berkner caught East off guard last week. Seems like this Berkner team is finally coming together. Lots of heart and determination to make the playoffs.

I agree. wylie can't defend the pass but their nose guard will cause all kind of headaches with PESH's less than stellar Oline. It will be closer than you think. Seems pesh can't stop the run.
Berkner and LH will be a close one and if Berkner can limit turnovers to 1 or less than they should win.
I think Plano will win by 14 over West. Revenge for last year and I think their defense will limit PW to 2 scores.
Allen might pitch a shutout which I thought I would never say this season but remember they are playing poor richadson.

Im just really disheartened by East, seems they bought into their own press clippings with their 6-0 record coming against probably the easiest schedule in 9-5A up to week 8 (and they almost didnt go undefeated in that). This week has become do or die for East, they have gone from riding high to fighting for their lives. I would feel EXTREMELY (like seriously, realllllly worried) if East had to find a win against Plano or Allen to make the playoffs.
I just pray we dont embarrass ourselves anymore than we already have.
On a side note I still feel the same about East, but I think berkner is actually good and I wouldnt be surprised if they won out and made the playoffs.

I don't think Berkner caught East on an off night. They flat beat their arse. Berkner is coming together and has an opportunity to some really good things. With all of those sophomores (10) starting on varsity already and producing like they are this team will just continue to get better and better. Watch out for them in the future.

I have watched Wylie and I have the feeling that East will have a great passing night against them. Everyone talks about East OL this East OL that but no one wants to talk about the running backs who have failed game after game to play to their potential. It looks like all they want to do is get outside and try to beat everyone around they edge, they try in no way to get up in the crease whatsoever. They are both two stellar backs and IMHO i believe the Sophmore back has done a much better job then the Junior has in getting up in the holes, when the Junior is probably the biggest back in the entire district.
It always seems to play in the light of, when things are going bad in the running game its the OL's fault, when they are going good then the backs are just playing great.
Nevertheless when a team has to throw the ball 40 times a game the DL is bound to get to the QB. PWF id like to see the amount of sacks Smalls has this season if you could find that.
Defense on the other hand I hope they figure out a way to just stop an offense it seems they are at a point where they are lacking leadership and many of them are playing as individuals rather than a unit. I hope they can get it together in order to stop Wylie this week.
I think this will be a close game with East now with their backs against the wall will come out with a win in a dog fight.

As an East fan I now have become very uneasy due to the fact that these last 3 games are against teams that could beat us. Homecoming week against a Wylie team who has proved it can hang with the best and then Plano and Allen make for a gloomy possibility of not getting 4 district wins.
Riko is only looking at one receiver most times and misses high a lot as well. I am not sure he has the magic bullet to get East the W in tough games although he showed potential in the first 3 games. The run defense was also exposed by Johnson so Plano may do it too. It is dissapointing to see the team not perform as well as it should so hopefully they use this as a wake up call and wake up for wide awake Wylie!!!
Go East!!

Wylie v PESH - PESH. Berkner was the smelling salts PESH needed. They have the high expectations monkey off their back (Don't underrate that. Look how Berkner's playing these days) AND their chances of making the playoffs are still very strong...unless they completely collapse. Frankly, PESH with a loss scares me more now than PESH undefeated would have scared me when the Allen v PESH games rolls around.
Berkner v LH - Berkner I think LH is better than their record, but I *really* think Berkner is better than theirs. This is a game I will be very interested in seeing the results from, since Allen will be playing LH next week. Should LH beat Berkner, I'm a-gonna be purty nervous.
Plano West v Plano - Plano This is the game of the week in 9-5A. West now has 2 losses in district play (East and Allen) and will definitely be the underdogs going in to this game. *But* this might be one of those that turns on a play or two in the 4th quarter. However, I give the edge to Plano because the ferocity of their fanbase far exceeds that of West's. That can sometimes make a HUGE difference in these types of games.
Allen v Richardson - Allen Not a shutout, though. Allen will let as many of its players in the game as possible that night since it's homecoming. I would hope that Richardson's 1st string players might be able to score once or twice against Allen's 3rd string (they did last year), or they really are in a sad state at that school.

9-5A Week 8
Allen over Richardson- Walk in the park for allen
Wylie over PESH- I do not think PESH will recover from last week. Riko has a melt down
Plano over Plano West- This one will be close for the first half but plano will turn it on for the 2nd half.
Lake Highlands over Berkner- This game has always been a great game LH lost last year 10-9 and is looking for revenge. QB Jake Vines has taken control of the offense and will lead them to victory. This is the best 9-5A match up this week.

It didn't help Wylie last week. Plus they were recognizing Wylie's 1977 2A state champion team as well. A double douse and still got beat by 4 TD's.

They would have been beaten by 6 TDs if they hadn't!
As I was walking into the stadium on Friday, I thought what a dumb idea for Wylie to be using Plano as a homecoming. Allen or Berkner - maybe, but not Wylie. Although their 1st drive looked scary good.

My kids go to Wylie, umm, shows how much you know about schools rather than just football. The Plano game was the only one they could pick to be homecoming because of othe conflicts in the schools schedules...not like they can just choose whatever game they want for homecoming, if that was the case, they would have done it against Mesquite Poteet early in the season.

Last year, Allen scheduled its homecoming in mid-September, before district play even began! As I recall, they played Rowlett.
But besides that, who knew Plano's team would resurrect itself this year, back when the schedules and school activities surrounding those were determined?

Or Richardson on Oct 5, or even West on Nov 3rd, Wylie's last home game of the season (always a good time for Homecoming).
Wylie was pulling out all the stops to try and get an emotional lift to beat Plano.
The key activity around every school's homecoming is the football game, where the current students can showcase their football team (I suspect this happens even in Wylie). That and the reunion dance, where everyone has the same thought - "What the hell happened to her? I used to think she was HOT!!"
If this is not the case, why not center the activity around basketball, or in some school's cases, volleyball. Don't think I don't know about schools.

OMG, You are soooo right!! To hear PWF talk about how utterly bad Brence was and how the world was coming to an end.

Haha nice work, but yes who knew that Plano would turn this year around because you never know when they will have the off year or an on year. It should be intresting to watch the new coach come in an try to change what Brence has done with this program.

Brence is still not a very good coach. Great Talent is easy to coach, Check out 2005 season. Good coaches raise the level of the talent and develop what they have into a good team. Brence does not do that. Check 2006,2004, 2003 and 2002 Combined record 11-29. Am I surpised that they totally changed offenses and are more balance with a good passing game yes. Am I glad Brence will not be the coach next year? ABSOLUTELY. The right head coach will make Plano the dynasty it hasn't been for 12 years. Mark my words. Plano is about to make a big turn around in a big way.
If we had a new coach who knows how the Allen game would turnout. Burkhead might of gotten the ball 15 more times and Plano would of run alot more to slow down the game and keep the ball away from Allen.

Final thought! How much bee-AATCHING would you be doing if Allen went 11-29 in a 4 year stretch? I would assume alot. I doubt if you would sit back and say Tom is a good coach and make excuses for him. I would assume you would want a change in the program.

I don't see Plano making any start of dynasty run in the next few years. East is the only part of PISD that is growing and thats only because of Murphy. The Murphy High school (9-10 grade) is still 3-4 years away from constaruction so the feeder schools will not change.

Riko is not making great decisions. He is always looking for the long ball and not checking down to the high percentage pass like he was earlier in the season. I may be wrong, but I kind of feel like he has gotten a bit of a big head. I think the Berkner loss will help East and get them back to earth and playing EAST football again.

Good Grief! How big does Plano need to be!! Size is not the problem, Plano does not need to grow... If they can keep the boys interested in football and get coaching talent, they will be successful. Coaching, Coaching, Coaching! Dodge did it at SLC with a HS less than half the size of Plano.
Also, I am sure the district will keep adjusting attendance lines to shift more students to the Plano Senior Cluster and the Plano West Senior Cluster.

Paul,
The feeder schools are set until Murphy High School opens around 2008-09. I just don't see any Plano school making a Dynasty run in any district. In the past three years each of the Senior Highs have made a playoff run of three rounds. Not one school in Plano is going to dominate like Plano did in the early East Years. East has won the last 9 out of 10 from Plano and 5-1 against West but the tide will turn soon on those numbers. PISD better hope that Wylie elects to open a another High school soon and does not go the way of Allen with the one high school town. If they elect to go one high school for many years then we will have another Allen surronding us, and there is lots of land in Wylie to attract new homeowners.

Not to worry. Wylie's new High School opens next year. I would not be surprised at all to see then go back down to 4A.

Wylie East High School opened this year. It currently houses 9th grade only. The school board is debating whether or not to make it a freshman center, 9-10 feeder into Wylie High, or full 9-12 high school. The way things are going in the community, East will most likely become a 9-12 school and both Wylie High and Wylie East High will have 5A enrollment numbers.
