This game could produce the #2 team in 15-5a. After the way Conroe handled tWHS, i think its interesting to see the way they match up with College Park. I think its going to be a closer game than everyone expected. They offenses match up well on paper, and I think Conroe may have the slight edge on defense.. Im picking Conroe to win this one

This game, along with a couple out of 165a will produce 1 of the best Houston area GOTW.

Should be a good one. The Cavs are very disciplined, but I think Conroe's speed will be a factor - I might pick CP, but not yet.

Too close to call. If College Park is close to 100% healthy, they should win it. But not by much.

Conroe and specially Draylon Booker who I watched him play as a freshman is very talented. I think Conroe will win this one alone with him. Now they have some other rushers, but Booker is by far the best one IMO. Not to mention Conroe's defense is not to shabby it's self. College Park does bring alot to the table. A very talented QB(#6) who runs the option as good as any QB I have seen in a while. Then they also have some nice weapons at FB(#42) and RB Lyons.
Before Conroe blew past The Woodlands (Which I predicted) I though College Park would win this one, but I am just so impressed with Conroe right now. Plus they have the most veteren team in the District and that is why I am taking the Tigers.

College Park will need to control the clock to win this game. Conroe's speed will be factor too. I am not sure what happen to THW, but up until that game Conroe had not played anyone with any 5A credibility. They still need to prove they can play against a top tier team, but I am not sure CP fits that mold yet either. If Conroe wins that will set up a possible big game on Nov. 10th with Lufkin. This district is definately much tougher than last year.
This will be a hard fought close game and I believe CP will win late 31-27.

CP has alot of talent and also they have alot of fight in them. They refused to lay down to LP and fought tooth and nail all the way to the end. I think CP wins in the last min of the game. 28-21

Injuries might play a part in the game Friday. DT Mock, LB Weingrad, and a couple of others were injured against Mags on Saturday. If Mock can come back by Friday then that will help a whole lot. Weingrad is just a depth issue for now.
I am still going to be a homer and pick CP

Like I've said before, I'll be ok with a 4th place finish in district as long as we can have everybody healthy for the playoffs. I'm sure coach would not risk playing guys who might have niggling injuries. He's been rotating guys in key positions all year. I'm assuming a big reason for that is to minimize the risk of getting the kids too banged up before the playoffs.

Tough Call! My heart is with CP, but I have a bad feeling about this game. It is personal, 2 schools are down the street from each other but on different sides of the track. Conroe lost to CP last year in overtime, so it will be personal.
I'm thinking that CP benefited from playing Lufkin before Conroe, good experience even tho they lost, but If Conroe beats CP, AND that is a BIG IF, that sets up the real battle of 15-5A; Lufkin at Conroe. That will get a lot of press, last regular season game and might determine who the district champ is. 15-5A is getting good.

I would like nothing more than for Conroe to be 9-0 coming into the game with Lufkin.. playing for the district title.. although CP and OR are going to be tough wins for the tigers... Im still picking Conroe to beat both of them.. especially after the way they handled tWHS.... I think the confidence is going to be a factor for the Tigers

The Conroe O and D lines really impressed me. BIG guys, some athletic, some just BIG! I don't think there is a hungier football team in the area, hungry for victory and hungry for food! I'd smile from ear to ear if Conroe went into the playoffs undefeated, they have eaten crow for a while.

I voted for Conroe, but obviously the Cavs could take it, and I expect a tight game. Seems this might finally be Conroe's year to put it all together. This game will be a big barometer for them.
In all frankness, I think many are still remembering the Tigers essentially folding up their tent and going home at halftime against Oak Ridge last year - will they pull that stunt again - or will they stay focused?

I agree... and I think after they way they COULD have folded this year.. but they didnt... that might be an indication of the way things will be.. Im excited.. My parents have had season tickets since the 70's, so i will be sitting 6 rows up on the 50 yard line friday night

I'm a little surprised myself, given how Conroe have had a much tougher schedule than College Park.
I think the reason people may be a little hesitant to pick Conroe is because TWHS played very poorly in that game, particularly on the Defensive side. While I'm certain that Conroe had a lot to do with that, that has to carry some weight on people's opinions. Particularly the ones who have seen College Park this year and the way they have defended against some pretty good talent the last 3 weeks or so. And they were successful running the football against a pretty good Lufkin front 7 whereas TWHS running game was virtually nonexistent against the Tigers.
I think the game will be a toss up. Decided by 7 pts or less.

I would never pick against College Park even if they were playing Tom Brady and the Patriots. :D
But if I were to be completely neutral I would still pick the Cavs in a close one simply because of the depth in their lineup all around.

But keep in mind I actually picked Conroe about 7-8 spots ahead of College park in my State top 25 list, firstly because they're undefeated and secondly, they have wins against a better schedule overall.

This will be a classic. Their rushing offense against our rushing offense. Both teams have the triple threat from the backfield.
Conroe - Booker, Johnson and Greenwood
College Park - Crittenden, Lyons and Parsons.
Defense will determine it.
I'm ready for some old fashioned smash mouth football.

No, anyone that keeps up with this district should have realized that this will be the match-up of the season for 15-5A. I've seen CP but I have not seen Conroe this year. Everyone knows Conroe is a much improved team over last year as well as CP. I think this one is too close to call but I'm pulling for CP only because I would like to see them do well.

It is hard to believe that Conroe will have more speed than Lufkin. Lamar while a 4a school also had plenty of speed. Unless Conroe throws better than they did against the Woods, I think CP wins in a close one.
CP is much better in the front 7 than the Woods. The secondary is weaker.
Should in fact be a great game. I am glad to see Conroe starting to live up to their potential. They used to be a powerhouse, and could be again.

How good is Conroe's sub-varsity teams and how did those games turn out against The Woodlands?
The tide could be turning because TWHS junior high is not as dominate as they have been in the years past. Some buddies of mine have sons that play and said they beat them this year.
This is going to get real interesting in the next couple of years.

This game was a CLASSIC... almost as good as the game in 96 when Rock Cartwright scored the winning TD in double overtime to beat tWHS. Although Conroe came out on the short end of the scoreboard... this was one of the best games I have ever seen... Lots of hard hitting... big plays... defensive stands... bad calls by the refs (going both ways).. and an amazing reverse with less that 1:00 in the game for I believe a 65yd TD pass. Conroe recovered a fumble in the CP endzone with 2:00 left in the game... CHS went 3 and out.. and punted to CP.. and then a dropped interception later... CP drops on the BOMB on conroe. Im proud of the Tigers.. 7-1 is nothing to pout about.. and they put up an amazing fight against a very good CP team.. My hats off to the Cavaliers.

Great win Cavs! I must say I'm surprised, but, I'm also surprised the Highlanders were passing down to our goaline to win the game with a minute left - we were lucky to have won.
Again, great win CP - I would not have predicted it. The CP-TWHS game will be a hum-dinger.

LP, get ready for a complete offense, running and passing. Conroe ran the ball against TWHS, they threw the ball against CP. The Conroe QB was so accurate, only 1-2 passes were out of reach of receivers. The Conroe receivers were dropping passes right in their hands and it was hard to watch, no fault to the QB, he threw it like a baseball.
Even with the win from a miracle pass play, I must say that CP passing game needs a lot of work.

I think there was a lot of trash talking and emotions of the field that was playing on them. About the passing game, I would rather watch CP turn into a running team like Giddings Buffalos than to try to be a failing passing team. Last year was worse, but I'm surprised that Trey Diller isn't a QB, the kid can launch a missile.

Congratulations CavDad!! and to CP.
Many fans give you grief over your strong opinions about CP(including myself). CP may have qualified for the PO's tonight, but more importantly they have turned some heads(mine also). I really felt Conroe was having a renaissance season(and are even with the one loss) and would win this match up. CP will get some poll action this week, imo. Congrats again to CP and you, it must feel good!

Thanks. After a win like that, I wouldn't dare mess with the football gods by worrying about polls or looking ahead to deep in the playoffs. Won't hear a peep out of me no matter what the polls look like. More worried about how we would stack up against TWHS next week given the walking wounded at the end of tonight's game. It was a hard fought game tonight and more trainer attention was needed this game than at any other time during the year. Getting everybody back for the playoffs is what I'm really hoping for.

Is this now when the rest of the district roots for Conroe to upset the Pack? Before the days of 2/3 of the district making he POs, this is the scenario that would totally screw things up, leaving a good team out in the cold come playoff time because of the 3- way tie and the dreaded coin-flip..
Until Lufkin can solve the turnover/ offensive execution puzzle, any team can beat them. The LP- Conroe game should be very interesting.
The other question is, " Does Conroe avoid another meltdown in the stretch?"
Congrats to the Cavs on a hard-earned win.

I think this year, Conroe upsetting the Pack is a more likely scenario than the Tigers melting down. Conroe has definitely turned their program around, based on the last 8 weeks. Their 2 wins in district so far should assure them a playoff spot. They'll more than likely meet Klein. I think they have a more than realistic shot at advancing to the 2nd round.

I think even with a loss last night conroe showed they are worthy of the 7-1 record they hold...I really feel sorry for Oak Ridge next week as Im sure Conroe will be ticked off. I would like to point out ( although im not going to blame the loss on this, as CP earned the victory) the officiating was terrible. bad spots, bad calls... they would call pennalties that didnt exist, yet they would ignore cheap shots on both sides... I really felt the refs let the kids down.. the score could have easily been 48-45 or more the way the offenses were playing. CP has some deep talent, and I was pleased to see the way Conroe matched up againt a team like that...
