View Full Version : Odessa schools - Still in the wilderness

I was hoping for a change in fortunate of the Odessa schools, with Odessa at 5-0 going into the Abilene game, but the Eagles won and look set to dominate District 3. Permian had some good non-district wins, but were shut-out by Midland. I guess Permian still have a long way to go to recapture the glory days. Midland Lee came back after a series of pre-district losses to beat and shut-out Cooper. Lee had a tough pre-district schedule including Euless Trinity and Southlake Carroll, as well as the Clovis East California game. I think Abilene win this District, but the two Midland teams are suddenly looking good for the other 2 play-off spots. I know they have only one district game, but even this early, I think it is an indication of how the district will go.

I wouldn't count out OHS just yet. They held Abilene fairly close, even closer than that Missouri team. Just because Abilene is really good doesn't mean OHS can't still make the playoffs.

I was at the Lake Highlands game last night- was the score really 7-0 abilene at halftime??

This OHS team might be for real... we'll see when they take on Cooper next week.

Now Midland - Abilene might be real interesting!

Many of us that cut our teeth on WT football in the 70's still have to shake our heads. Permian as a cellar dweller - and folks wondering just how bad AHS beats up on people still seems odd - but it is sweet!

I understand that Cooper had to play the game without Harper (their runningback) and with very little if any use of Gore (their fullback). When Cooper gets its backfield healthy again they will be a much better team. I would hesitate to say that this game says a whole lot good for Midland Lee. They really should have handled a beat up Cooper team better. That is really not meant as a dis for Lee, but I just think Cooper is a better team than what that score shows. But Cooper must get healthy to compete.

I agree w/ Eaglewatcher. Lee has not been impressive this yr. I think Per. can beat Lee. OHS is a better team than Lee. Cooper has too many players injured--Lee should have beaten them worse than they did. It's hard to tell much about the Eagles because this yr.'s team only plays as hard as they think they have to, to win & no harder. Midland is a very good team in spite of losing to Lub. Mont. Per. is trying to rebuild, & in many ways they are better than last yr.'s team., but this is a tough neighborhood to rebuild in.
