View Full Version : Why Wont they Start Barber III?

What is the deal?
They split carries. It is really irrelevant who starts because they switch out so often. Barber is the better back of the two but Parcells started Jones and so does Wade. I know Jones was whining that he needed more carries because it is a "contract extension year" but I doubt that is why he is starting.

I think they'll let Jones go next year and find a speed burner somewhere - maybe with the Browns pick.
Always remember - Jerry passed on Stephen Jackson for Julius Jones - never forget that - ever.

Don't sweat it, we have a chance to get McFadden in the draft if Cleveland has a top 7 pick, which they more than likely will.

Why? what difference does it make who starts the game? Jones could start the game, play on the first play and then go to the bench for the rest of the game and he still would have started. Does it make a difference? Of course not. Besides, did you see Jones against New England? He's capable of being a good runner and when you have two backs who are capable of being good, you always play both and ride the back of whoever is playing best.

Barber is a better back plain in simple

I agree, but you must entertain the notion that he is as good as he is because he is splitting carries and thus, always fresh.

He may be the better back but put both of them together in the same play run a play action pass and you got your self some yards

I have to agree. Hasn't anyone learned the Hambrick lesson. His average was over 6 yards per carry spelling Emmitt and all I heard was start Hambrick. Big Bill runs Emmitt off and Hambrick gets the start and couldn't carry the full load. I like Barber he's a bruiser but he's not the break away threat Jones is. I think they compliment each other well.

True. Brings up this question, can Barber carry the ball through the whole game, all season? Definitely the better back, but is he durable?

yes he is durable. he runs over people like crazy. he in my opinion really good at this point. he can catch run and i wouldnt be surprised if he can throw. lol i mean he is just a good part of dallas.

I remember that. When Jackson was still left on the board, all of the analysts were saying that he could go to the Cowboys and then when the Cowboys were on the clock, they were saying that Jackson could be their pick but NO! we had to take Jones! :Censor:

This is true, if nothing else I think he's made the case for more carries but the running back tandem has been working well so if it ain't broke don't fix it. You know maybe starting Barber might help to open up scoring in the first quarter though, it sure wouldn't hurt to find out. Start off banging heads then bring in Jones as the change of pace.

why is he able to do that? Because he is always so fresh. He only has to work half the carries.

Yea, that was the point I was getting at when I asked about his durability. Parcells never made him the "starter ", and now Phillips isnt either.

Barber gets most of his yards in the 3rd and 4th quarter because he has been held out and is fresh and the defenses are tiring because the big Dallas line has been leaning on them for over a half, pounding with Jones, and they are beginning to tire.
