Chris Fielder scored three touchdowns and Fred Thomas rushed for 142 yards as Weatherford (2-4, 1-2) won their second game in a row by defeating Burleson (4-2, 2-1) 31-7.

Weatherford scored on their first possession on Fielder's first touchdown of the game, a 3-yard run. The score remained the same until just before halftime.

Burleson faked a punt and made a first down, but it was nullified by a penalty. On it's ensuing drive, Weatherford scored on a Thomas 3-yard touchdown run, and left the score 12-0 at halftime.

Any change in second half momentum for Burleson was dashed when Weatherford completed it's only pass attempt of the game on the second play from scrimmage with a 73-yard pass from Chris Jackson to Fielder, to put Weatherford up 18-0.

Weatherford now has a winning streak after losing it's first 4 games to begin the season. Summit is now alone atop 4-5A at 3-0.

(p.s. - typo in heading - Burleson was unbeaten in district play)

I noticed that on the scoreboard earlier! That is a big upset. Any chance of it having any bearing on the playoff picture? Sorry if you mention that in your post. I didn't really read it, but I will after posting this.

Well, it's eraly on. It certainly gives Summit the upper hand as Burlseon has yet to play Manfield or Summit and is now a game behind. Summit has beaten Mansfield and Timberview (the other two good teams) and meets Burleson for the last game of the season.

Very cool. I have always liked Summit for some reason, and I like to see them succeed out there. It also doesn't hurt to not have to play them right out of the gate in November either.

And we would just as soon not play y'all in the first round again (no offense).

I'm feeling much better about our (Abilene Cooper) wins over Weatherford, Temple and Brownwood!

Temple smoked Belton 56-0
Brownwood beat Copperas Cove 17-10
