There is not a lot of talk about this game yet. It is a district game that features two high powered offenses and lots of passing! Haltom has to be the surprise team of the year in 5-5A! True they lost to Grapevine but they are still 4-1. Last year Haltom scored more points than any other team against SLC, plus this is SLC's homecoming so there is a lot of distractions.

Could this be an upset waiting to happen?

Draronfan - This is as much an upset waiting to happen as was Tyler Lee beating Longview last night.

I know, but I had to ask. The final score was 63 - 7. The defense had a shutout but the offense allowed an interception to be run back for a TD in the 4th quarter. Haltom was 4-1 and was averaging over 35 points a game.

I guess the Dragon D is not too bad this year.

I know there's plenty of SLC folks on this board to help me out here.....

What was the score at halftime?

Just curious....what is the usual SLC coaching decision by coach Dodge - are the starters pulled at halftime? 3rd quarter? Just wondering....

Having great success and blowout wins makes an interesting coaching challenge - keeping the team motivated and challenged.

Katy tonight was up 35-0 after the first quarter, and 45-0 at half, and pulled the starters (both offense and defense) mid-2nd quarter....and it brings up an interesting coaching question....you want to get your reserves reps for the post season, but when you are sitting your staters for 3/4 of most of your games, will it hurt or help in the end?

Good luck to all!

The score was 49-0 at the half. I left before the 2nd quarter ended.Blowouts like this won't hurt your team down the road if you pull your starters early(IMO).If every game is like this, then chances are you have a very special team. SLC's 2002 team had a lot of games like this, and they ended up ok.

The starters and backups on offense platoon the entire game this year. On defense some players rotate like the corners, safeties and defensive tackles.

they usually rotate the players in and out the whole game, so not only are the startrers contribtuing to the blow out, some of the backups are in there making plays in the early part of the game, its truly amazing the depth we have

McElroy had no business going back into the game after halftime, but I believe most schools will play the starters for at least one series in the 2nd half. After McElroy made his only mistake of the game, I figure Dodge wanted him to go back out and end the night on a good note.

Defensive starters played through the 3rd quarter.

SLC's defense looked dominant. I believe they are one of the best defenses in the state vs. other spread offense teams. If and when they line up against a more physical, run-oriented team, we will see how they meet that challenge. Euless Trinity, Northshore and Katy are 3 teams that I believe would give the Dragon defense trouble. Perhaps Longview and Westfield as well.
