District 22-5A has scrapped the scheduling plan it came up with last week to make up games affected by Hurricane Rita. A new plan was agreed upon Thursday, and it will divide 22-5A into two zones, A and B, to play out its district season.

Zone A consists of Baytown Sterling, Beaumont West Brook, Kingwood and Westfield, while Zone B will have Baytown Lee, Humble, Port Arthur Memorial and Spring. Starting Oct. 14, teams will play three games against opponents in their zone that will count as district games. On Nov. 4, the first-place teams from each zone will play each other to determine the 22-5A champion, and both will go to the playoffs. The runner-up from each zone will also play each other on that day, and the winner of that game will get the third and final playoff spot.

Games played between teams in 22-5A before Oct. 14 will not count toward district records, meaning Westfield's 49-13 win over Baytown Lee and Baytown Sterling's 20-16 win over Spring on Monday will not affect district standings. That is also the case for the Humble-Kingwood game tonight. Westfield and Baytown Sterling's game originally scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

For some reason, this really helps Memorial and Sterling. Westfield is a lock.
