i would have to say the conroe tigers. now granted, our game agaisnt a strong lufkin team wasn't all that great. but when you look at our pre-district opponents, we shut them down. those teams couldn't do anything agaisnt us. the lufkin game was just a fluke however. look for the tiger defense this week to shut down the OSU commit goodson. he's going to be hurting after he plays us. we have a good defensive gameplan for collins this week. our coaches have us prepared and we have had a good week of practice.
if our offense did anything agaisnt lufkin besides the first drive, the lufkin game would of been totally different.

I can't stop laughing at the Conroe guy, he needs to know that a fluke is if it were a close game. It wasn't, Lufkin won 34 -7 mainly because Lufkin had the dominate defense of the two.

Judson has a good D.
PAPG is 13.4, but that is with the Offense giving up some. Our defense is very fast and tough. Thew would have less PAPG if the offense didn't give the other team the ball inside the 50 so many times. I don't know yards

besides, defenses are units, not just "names" you can have all the best names and them not be effective as they look on paper.. thats what my point was... you can have an all star roll call ...but not the best defensive unit.. so just listing names... doesnt mean they are the best defensive unit...it just told us that u keep ur game programs in front of you.. because defenses are units... not names....but dont get me wrong.. theres nothing wrong with just listing names..but also give us some teams.. or.. some stats that back them up....

I have to agree with Ike here. I won't say they are the best because I haven't seen many other teams from around the state. I have been going to the games since Coach O came to town. This is the best defensive group I've seen so far in purple. Back during spring ball Coach Quick could be seen around town with a smile on his face. This from a man who never simles according to my son. I know what he was smiling about now.
I know Lufkin hasn't played any great teams this year yet. But these guys made my jaw drop during the Eisenhower game. Scary good D this year. O is coming around.

Arab the close game for the first time in a century with Nac was nothing to do with the defense. The 1st string defense gave up one td to Nac after a turnover on the 9 yard line in Lufkin's territory. The other score came after the score was 27-7 with 1 minute left vs Lufkin's 2nd string on a 70 yard td pass to make the score 27-14. The defense dominated like they usually do in that one. Tonight they gave up 14 total yards and -2 rushing on 39 carries vs a very bad oak ridge team. I have said it many times, this is one of the best and fastest defenses i have every seen. There is at least 7 to 8 future div1a prospect's on this unit alone and i kid you not!! The 2003 had 7 future div1a recruits and i think this defense is even better!!
Oh and i got a score for you mr Arab!! Marshall beat Nac in a very close game tonight 21-13!! I told you they have improved 200 percent!! When they lost to Kilgore in a close game Nac dominated the 2nd half and had more total yards for the game then Kilgore. A int for a td and a kickoff for a td was the key to that game. Nac is a lot better then you are giving them credit for. They are nothing like the laughable nac teams of the past i am telling you. Ask 2 4a power's Marshall and Kilgore!!

Nac is good. Never said they weren't. That QB is reallly good.
But when you or any other Lufkinite starts to open their mouth about the strength of Longview's schedule because they played a 4A team, just keep in mind that you did it too. Gotta keep those rivalries going after all.

"aint that good at all", this defense, for the amount of time they are on the field, and how many times they get the job done is incredible, imagine if we play a game where the offense doesnt score under 2 min everytime, how good our d will be? our d is in GREAT shape, they have to be, to be on the field so much. i like how our defense is underrated, i think our d is better than last years

Well, big DUH!! Everybody says their team has the best defense. Big surprise. Any of the good teams that are winning have good defenses 'cause the other teams just can't score enough on them.
Since I'm from Katy I'll say Katy has a good defense. Anyone suprised by that comment?
Let's see statistical support for all ya'lls teams. I just got Katy's last night.
Katy is holding opponents.. 9.2 ppg that's overall games with 1st and 2nd string. 5.2 ppg with just the starting defense.

Klein Collins lit up Conroe for 38 last night and they've been struggling on O all year. You do wonder where these thoughts come from.
I'd say the top ranked teams all have good defenses. SLC is notorious for simply getting a team out of its rythm, but they usually don't have defensive playmakers. The SV D is strong, as is Katy's - both very disciplined. Lufkin and Longview both have the fastest, most aggressive D's -- sometimes overly-so as over-pursuit can be an issue.
Not sure about Spring Westfield or Trinity - but I'm sure they're pretty loaded on D as well.

The Lufkin first team D has only allowed two TD's all year through 5 games on any kind of sustained drive - one to Conroe and one to Port Arthur Memorial. Nac. scored on a 10 yard drive off a fumble. All other scores have been on second team. But, Lufkin hasn't played a top 25 team yet - so, it's hard to say if that continues.

Impressive....but I can't see that streak breaking any time soon. Those guys are maniacs.
1st team allowed those 16 points vs. Marshall in Week Zero and then didn't allow another TD until last week against Mesquite Horn. One thing has become evident through all these games, first and second team d alike: when someone has the ball, you're going to see 3 or 4 green helmets around it. Same with Lufkin.

All of you have good pionts about the big d's in the state. but your forgeting about Abilene highs. We have held offences to less than 2 touchdowns in the first half and less in the 2nd half. And what makes us evan better is that when our offence strugles at times, our defence can still hold strong. Which explains why were a perfect 6-0. Plus our offence is still explosive and can score pionts.
