Been playing football since 1997..
Division I-AA for 4 years
Been playing D1 since 2001
Jim Leavitt only coach...
2007 in the National Title hunt
Unreal...Some schools been playing college football for a 1000 years and have never cracked the top 10-some the top 25...
Sometimes you gotta scratch your head ...
it's insane...... they have a great thing going.

i would say they are lookin like the boise state of this season but i don't want to for two reasons...
1) i don't want to jinx it, if they're for real then we'll see them prove it...
2) they already have much more credit at this point of the season that boise had last year, i guess the pollers learned something...
do it bulls!
They have a tough schedule down the stretch. Out of the top 6 I would give them the second highest probability to go undefeated. (First is OSU)

Since one of my sheepskins is from USF I must say I am a bit proud of what they have done. The founders of the school back in 1956 (Dr. Allen, et. al.) are probably turning over in their graves Dr. Allen led the effort to keep athletics out of the school for a while and for many years thereafter kept it at a diminished level. One thing you may not know is that OU & Tampa Bay Buc former player Lee Roy Selmon had a great deal to do with the effort to get a team started at USF. The school is a lot larger than most would suspect. There are over 39000 on the Tampa campus and the total rises to almost 45,000 when you add the Lakeland, St. Pete and Sarasota campuses in to the mix. Leavitt is a great coach and has spurned several higher profile offers over the years, long before USF attained the success they have today. Next to Boise State, USF made it to the rankings after entering 1A quicker than anyone ever has. I am not certain, but getting to #6 is quite a feat.

It doesn't hurt, being in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.

It also doesn't hurt to be in the conference that spends the least amount of money on sports. The Big East used to be a basketball league and they had to cobble together enough teams to play football and then raided the lower leagues a few years back when they lost some to the ACC.
