I think both teams play very good defense, but Forest has had the more consistent offense. This should be a very close game. I'll go with Forest in this one because of their consistency so far.

actually, ty robinson (#10) has 52 carries and 6 td's. and even if he goes down, their starter last year palmo vincent (#1) averages over 5 yrds. per carry. and if thats not enough, soph QB Ford Lakin (#12) averages over 5 yrds. and has 2 td's. not to mention his 9 td throws and only one interception, which was to Frank Mitchem of Klein Collins, a true D1 prospect. not only can "the" woodlands not stop the KF offense, but they will have more than they want to see of the KF defense stopping their easily predictable plays. and parsons will turn the ball over multiple times. forest can and i think will beat lufkin this year and win district. no offense to lufkin because they are right there also and should go very deep in the playoffs with lots of underclassmen coming back.

well, first off, in 2002 they were very good, but nobody in their right mind thought they were alot better than lufkin. lufkin was unbelievable that year, and actually kf came back at the end and made it very interesting. and no, klein collins defense did not stop kf, they just took advantage of a few mistakes that kf made. kf made uncharacteristic fumbles quite often and the great int by mitchem in the kf redzone made it look that way

I've only seen KF twice and TWHS once this year but will take KF. I think their speed will cause some problems plus Parson has not been sharp. The difference could be "additude" and I like the way KF never quits. Last year they played Lufkin and TWHS tough all night long even when they are down by a lot, they just keep coming.

This year they did the same thing to Spring, they jumped out early and when Spring tried to come back they continued to play with high energy. If they start slow and TWHS can get up quick it will be a close game but if KF jumps out with 2 quick scores it could get ugly.

I've yet to see Lufkin, but until they are beat I'll take them plus KF has not been to ABE yet. I would love to see the kids faces the first time the panther growls.

Not the highest.........Trinity's Dimitri Nance has 1027 yds. on 91 carries and 15 TD's........an average of 11.29 yds. per carry!
Their fullback (LaDerrick Handy) with 417 yds. on 45 carries and 7 TD's is only averaging a "paltry" 9.27 yds. per carry.

KF was a little sloppy against KC but wore them down. They are fast/fast/fast on defense. They ran 70 plays and I do not think KF ever felt threatened even when Texas Tech committed signee Mitchdem ran the pic back. They just loaded up and went 75 yards in 10 plays to seal it.

It will come down to Lufkin/KF winner who will win district. Woodlands should be 3rd but they are really pointing fingers. KC is too thin and too injured but played with a lot of heart last week which was good to see. Conroe and Klein will have something to say about the third spot.

I hope KF can take Lufkin because I back Klein schools in general but playing at ABE is the real deal and distracting which I thought KF was last weekend playing KC.

Gotta go with KF although I hope that I am wrong. The Woodz has no offense. The Woodz D should hold Kf close til they wear out in the 4th Qtr. Assuming no crucial turnovers say 7 to 7 at half and 21-7 KF and the end.

Pack0808, if you consider the 441 yards of offense that KF put up on KC "holding them down" as you put it, what is your concept of defense? KF looked a little rusty on offense turning it over 3 times inside the red zone, 2 of those 3 times inside the 5. Otherwise the score would have been VERY ungly. The running back that Pete Carroll of the USC Trojans called "the best back in the nation" was limited to 24 yards rushing. Goodson had 11 carries for negative yardage & the one play he scored on was a reverse that caught the KF defense not lined up when the ball was snapped.

The KF game will either be close because that's how The Woodlands plays - strong defense, with a very conservative offense, or it will be ugly with KF's speed, athleticism, & multiple offensive weapons putting up BIG points. Should be a good game either way!

I think KF takes it somewhat handily. It appears this just is not the Highlanders year - too much negative juju coming out of TWHS right now. Hard to overcome team speed that KF throws out as well.

Protect The House - You obviously were at the game so you can understand that KF put 2-3 defenders on Goodson every play and when you have a JV up playing fullback, 2 recievers that refuse to block and another slot back won''t block, there is little chance for Goodson or superman especially with a tender achilles. Anyone out there taking KF lightly will get beat. KF/Lufkin game will be for the title. No one else is close. TWHS probably will get third with 5-5 or 6-4 record.

My point exactly. If there is NO one else on the field for KC that you have to honor, why would you not key Goodson? That is not diminishing his ability, the kid is phenominal. He is not the first player of quality that the KF defense has shut down this season. The Jersey Villiage tailbacks were both pummelled everytime they touched the ball. Josh Lewis of Cy-Spring is the second leading rusher (5A) in the Houston area & he was held under 100 yards. The Spring offense is one of the better offenses in the Houston area, with an outstanding QB & RB, & both of them were held in check. The RB Hammonds had a 61 yard run for a TD on KF's backups or he would have been held to hardly anything.

I've seen TWHS. Without Drabek they don't have ANY offensive weapons the caliber of what KF has already seen.

KF's defense is for real.

Are the LA transfers around Texas COMPLETELY cleared to play yet? I know the UIL stated that there was a 15 day wait for LA transfers, but the Texas schools had to have some paperwork from the LA schools for the transfers to be completely eligible. I know that there are many high schools that have overlooked this paperwork issue and as a result will have to forfeit games. I'm not sure that it is worth the risk unless all the i's are dotted & t's are crossed.

I agree with you X-Choice. Seems like some think that Drabek in the only athlete on the team. What about Burns or Haywood? Lets not forget the steady hands from Bova .... and McKee and Grote. We need all the athletes we can get but, more importantly, we need 11 highly motivated players out there who can execute!! 1 superstar is not the answer. Case in point is KC and Goodson.

I hope that the Highlanders come fired up and ready to play 4 qtrs.

Yes, PTH, Lufkin fans are very gracious winners and all of us who play them are most grateful. I just hope they are as gracious if they should happen to lose to KF. The stories of fans screaming obscenities and throwing batteries and other items at opposing teams and coaches are rampant around the state. Hopefully, winning and the arrival of a classy coach such as Outlaw have improved the atmosphere at Abe and they can just win (or lose) with class.

I saw Lufkin last week punk Conroe Kittens. Lufkin is fast and very physical and Dez Bryant (wr) is the real deal.

In saying that the Woodz is imporving every week and their D is very good, very aggressive and very physical period.

No team has run on them. In fact the D has a 3.4 per carry against the rush.

And they have had 6 stops in the Red zone against State Rank teams. Bend but don't break defense.

With the exception of the 4th quarter of the first game with Katy, no offense has scored more than TD on them per game.

North Shore had not been held to a Touch Down in 10 YEARS!

The O will continue to improve and you'll see more points on Friday. Parsons if given the opportunity is a winner on the field. As he gets more reps the offense will get better. They have a lot of "D 1" talent, besides "the D man".

But the D will shut down the KF O period.

Just because they beat powerhouse teams like Jersey Village 0-3, Spring 1-2(Spring almost lost to Magnolia and yes the Dogs are 1-24 over the last two seasons) and over rated Klein Collins 1-3, KF fans think their the best team in 145A. The Golden Eagles have play nobody period!

Klein Forest folks are lengends in their own minds.

It's Game day baby, it's time to bring Wood out! Because the Woodz is going lay the the Wood to the Eagles and it won't be pretty!

The Woodlands showed some toughness against Katy even though it was a blowout. The Woodlands showed some toughness against The Shore and held it close.

The Woodlands "D" definitely won this one tonight answering many challenges and curtain calls thanks to a wholly inept offense. MLB Kirby Smith, DE Blake Hinton, SS Zach Carpenter, and FS Taylor Skaufel led the way along with a host of other defensive Highlanders to secure the win. KF was indeed a formidable foe, but they were inconsistent on "O", dropping way too many passes and were under constant pressure from the stingy Highlander "D". I give props to the KF "D" too for stuffing TWHS "O", especially afer halftime when TWHS only had 1 First Down the whole second half. Only marginal improvement for TWHS "O" this week again makes them a candidate for a major letdown, in both district and possible playoffs. Unless the "O" line/Backs/QB/PLAY CALLING are not fixed and soon, I fear the worst. Some of the plays and personnel used i this game were just plain stupid in critical ball control situations. Props to the new FB former QB Austin Hutson and the new kid Montague for their play on "O"......the rest of the "O" was just plain bad! I'm not a true believer just yet but am coming around......especially after that inspired "D" play......GO HIGHLANDERS!

Klein Forest earned every 1st down they got. The Woodlands defense made it very difficult to get yards. I believe some of those 1st downs were due to suspect flags. The refs were horrible this game. Klein's defense is very good. They held us to around 100 yards offense.

Thanks to the special teams play for the early start. I think our 14 pt lead shocked KF. It was only after the 1st half did KF started kicking butt. What I did not like about KF were all the cheap shots & "punching in the pile-up".

As far as the offense goes, just horrible. I cannot imagine what the Lufkin game will bring us. Lufkin just held their opponent (this week) to 27 yards total offense of which "zero" was rushing.

We must beat Klein Collins to ensure the playoffs & respect.

Next week? Huntsville ---> the worst defense in the district. If the offense can't get going, we won't get out of the 1st round in the playoffs.

Drabek for QB? Don't laugh.... passing will open up the "O" & the kid can run. But QB will not solve the problem unless you "mix it up". No more throwing into double coverage. No more looking just to your #1 WR, then dumping off to the RB. I keep seeing wide open WR's on the field. What gives?

Austin needs to be on the field. I think he accounted for most, if not all of our first downs... basically helped run down the clock.

I am not sure if we got the short straw on the officials this week but I do not think I have seen worse in over 4 years. The JV game Thursday night and the varsity game last night set the crowd on fire. What's even worse is that when they know they're wrong, they don't correct it and pick up the flag. The Woodz D carried the Day!

When the O gets better play calling and not predictable 1st down draw plays, you'll see the offense score more than 7 points a game. It's only a matter of time when the O will catch up the the D. Hopefully before the "War in the Woods"

Here is the deal. The Pack has a good O. Bryant is their main passing weapon and the Woodz needs to find a way to limit his production.

I think the QB hasn't been tested and he'll be rushed because the Highlanders D will bring it period. Sorry, but kicking butt on Cornrow and Joke Ridge doesn't prove anything. It just makes you a "Legend in Your Own Mind"

The KF QB (a sophmore and he has talent) therw 33 times last night and only completed 11. He wassacked 4 or 5 times and under pressure most of the night.

The Woodz will stop the run. i.e. Katy,NS, Humble, Klein and KF all had D1 type of runners and good O lines, but this D is differnet. They love to hit you, they're smart and they have good speed to match up with the runners and they play as a unit.

The Pack's key is how the O line will perform under a aggressive front 7 and outstanding safeties that the Highlanders have. Have they been tested?

It's going to be fun. The Highlanders just need better play out of the O and more creative play calling. (Like throwing it to your 6'6" D1 TE that's open on most passing plays, he's a mismatch againsted most safeties)

Of course the Old Abe factor and home crowd will favor the Purple People Eaters!

That is not a negative sign. Surely the "quality education" that is provided by Lufkin High School explains the difference between a positive / negative symbol and a hyphen? Uh, then again, probably not. See the Lufkin Wal-Mart for evidence. Notice the hyphen between Wal and Mart. See that doesn't mean Wal (negative) Mart. I won't even charge you for that tidbit of information.

Those numbers are rock solid. Check ANY source you wish, or should I fax you a copy of the official district stats when they are released on Wednesday.

You read too deep into a simple statement. I never said they were not good. Is it that hard to understand the simple game of football? :eek: You can have a "for real" defense and you can put up some impressive stats but all that does not help your team win the game if you can't stop the opponents offense when it counts. I see the same nonsense posted about how Lufkin's defense couldn't stop certain running backs in the past. They can run all they want and stack up their stats in between the two endzones but if they still can't cross the goal line enough times to win the game then I don't care how many yards you gain on Lufkin's defense or any other defense. If you can't punch it in when you are in the red zone then all you have are just a bunch of numbers padding your stats and you still can come out with a loss. So all I was saying is that they didn't get the job done to get the win. But if you would rather be satisfied with the fact that they held the Woodlands to low total yardage then that is your business. I am sure most people will take the win with low offensive stats then a loss with some impressive defensive stats. And hey, I never said I was smart or a brainiac. Ok another newbie jumping on here and responding to something he knows nothing about. Did I say they were terrible? No, so where did you get that from? How could I be correct on something I never even said? Please tell me. Did I say LP will score at will when we play them? NO! Did I say they were a poor excuse for a defense? No! So how does a championship ring from 2001 fit in to anything I have said? It doesn't so why even bring it up. I know I haven't. In fact it doesn't even come in to play at all this season. We are in the year 2005 so what happened in 2001 does not have any bearing on what our team or any other team does this year. It amazes me how people can turn one little comment into about 5 different comments that were not even posted. Somehow you have taken one little comment that was a reply to someone elses comment and ran with it. You turned it into something it is not. No I wasn't at the game and I did not need to be at the game to know that KF lost the game. The defensive stats for KF are very impressive but those stats did not give KF a win. All it did was prove they have a good defense by keeping TWH in check most of the night. The only thing they failed to do was keep them from scoring the points that won the game. You can go back and look at all my messages and see that I have never acted like Lufkin was superior to all other teams or that we can't be beat on any given night. I am not too proud of my team to think such nonsense. I have not even implied that we will score all over KF or any other team for that matter. I also have never said that no team will be able to hang with Lufkin. I have not even boasted about our wins this season as if we are some superior 5A team. I know we have not been tested by a solid team yet but I am not going to just take our wins as meaningless just because they were to lackluster teams. I have never seen a state championship team play state ranked or tough teams 16 games straight. Every team has to play some weaker teams at one point or the other. That might not be how we want it to be but that is just the way it is. Lufkin came to Moorhead last year with a great team and a played a great game. I also thought that their fans were a Class Act and I had th pleasure of walking to the parking lot with several of them who were very complimentary of the Woodlands as well as our halftime entertainment. Folks, there is no need to be bashing the good folks from the piney woods for having a different opinion. They have been through enough with Rita. I'm with you TWHSFAN#2......last years Lufkin game vs TWHS had far more more purple shirts than green ones........and the LP fans were great! As a resident of the Woodlands for some 20+ years I can tell you that I much prefer the genuine, country folk from Lufkin to the back biting, controversy loving, stat minded yuppies we frequently encounter here. I attribute this to all the damn Yankees that have moved in from up North.......KF "D" played a great game.......they were greatly assisted with less than imaginable play calls too, especially in the second half.......major props to TWHS "D" for winning the game for The Highlanders.

So Duke, all argument aside, what did you think about the KF game. #1 had a good kick return (you must have liked that ;) ). Cant say much for his role as a WR, but he did decent at RB.

I say leave him at Tailback and special teams and he will try to be half of a Drabek.

I'm with you TWHSFAN#2......last years Lufkin game vs TWHS had far more more purple shirts than green ones........and the LP fans were great! As a resident of the Woodlands for some 20+ years I can tell you that I much prefer the genuine, country folk from Lufkin to the back biting, controversy loving, stat minded yuppies we frequently encounter here. I attribute this to all the damn Yankees that have moved in from up North.......KF "D" played a great game.......they were greatly assisted with less than imaginable play calls too, especially in the second half.......major props to TWHS "D" for winning the game for The Highlanders.

I saw in the paper where that powerful panther defense shut down an explosive Oak Ridge offense. This again proves that the Lufkin defense is "real". So, did you guys order those rings yet? I hope Klein is ready for Wednesday night facing the greatest team and fans in the whole state of Texas. Klein may not get a first down against this panther defense. After getting to see Klein earlier this year I am sure Dez will be behind them all night. Maybe Lufkin can just send their JV and rest the varsity for the playoffs.

Lufkin has a great defense there is no question about that?? See 5atexasfootball rankings or read some post's from people not from Lufkin if you do not think that!! It is not just us homers!! They have 6-8 future div1a prospects on the d alone. Those are just the fact's not me being a homer. Lufkin has not played anybody yet this year so we will see what happens. If the past means anything i love our chances vs just about any team. No Lufkin fan is saying we have the best team in the state. I say Lufkin is about #5?? I am not worried about the defense when they play a good to great team i am worried about the offense. Well i should say the offensive line. No denying Lufkin has some of the best wr's in the state but that does mean anything if the o-line does not give the qb time to throw. We will see??

I watched PAM run right at them with some success and had they not felt the need to throw the ball the game may have been closer. The o-line may be a little suspect as well. It will be fun to see how they handle TWHS and maybe even KF. I don't know if I agree with the best WR's in the state remark. Dez is the real deal that is a fact but, the other receivers I'm not sold on.

Shankle is a top recruit wr and one of the fastest in the state, Thomas is a very good athlete and has unlimited potential, Thad Gordon is 6'3 and can jump like Dez!! he is injured right now. These wr's are one of the best in my opinion without a doubt. Dez, Thad, Shankle are shoe in div1a wr's and Thomas has a good shot if he plays football in college instead of baseball?? Yes the defense did look suspect in rushing yards in the PAM game!! That was the only game they have given up any rushing yards even though it was not a lot and they only averaged about 3.5 a carry. Lufkin was missing one of their rock's in the middle in randell Murphy aka The Big Murph" to injury. He is our biggest lineman and he is essential going up vs teams with a big oline that runs between the tackles. He is back now and he just had 2 sacks last game and plugged the middle all night. They were also missing both starting corners in that game and both Hewitt and Brown do an excellent job at coming up and hitting people. I have not seen hardly any success at all when teams have tried going outside. Too much speed!! The way to attack this extremely talented defense is between the tackles. The secondary is very very good on the pass. But like you have said, They have not been truely tested!!

Yeah Lufkin is giving up like 110 total yards per game and giving up about 1.5 yards per rush and that is with the 2nd string giving up yards in the 2nd half. Poor team!! ;)

I know he's at Tech, and I now he is starting, but I remember reading a publication one time that said he was 6'3" 250 and running a 4.5. Just giving you guys a hard time. It seems every 40 time is a hoax when it comes down to it. The only time I believed a listed 40 time from a d-lineman is when the guy went to state in the 100 meter dash the next semester.

I think the scariest defender at Lufkin in recent years wasn't necessarily the biggest. That young man is Joseph Hadnot. Everyone in that family is talented. But genetics aside, that guy was just flat out scary.

I'd say Sheppard is being the smartest. Even if he doesn't go pro, he'll get a top notch education. That's why Joel Armstrong went there. He figured he'd never go pro, so he might as well take advantage of a free education at probably the hardest school in the state of Texas.

Classic mental self-destruction that comes in the Longview vs. Lufkin game. in '02, they mentally self destructed in the first half only to come back the second aad whoop up on them, then last year they blew a great first half to self-destruct in the second half. Sigh...I just wish they would be as consistent as they have against other teams.
