I hate polls like this, total waste of time and space. Maxpreps sucks anyway.

What? We've played 4 undefeated teams in a row and I imagine that to be 5 in a row because Trinity will be undefeated next week.

You can't take MaxPreps seriously. Their power ratings are a joke.

Here is how they rank the top 25 in Texas. Two 2A teams are in the top ten. Maxpreps computers produce some stupid results and their strength of schedule ratings are based on the same rankings.

1 Longview
2 Plano
3 Carroll
4 Trinity
5 Abilene
6 Celina
7 Highland Park
8 North Shore
9 Marshall
10 Pewitt
11 Midland
12 Copperas Cove
13 Plainview
14 Bridge City
15 West Brook
16 Katy
17 Frenship
18 St. Mark's (Dallas)
19 South Grand Prairie
20 Rowlett
21 Madison (San Antonio)
22 Gainesville
23 Texas (Texarkana)
24 Macarthur (Irving)
25 Lufkin

The MaxPreps National Polls and National Schedule ratings are even worse. Since there is so little interstate play, computers do a terrible job of ranking high school teams. In 2004 MaxPreps completely missed Independence Charlotte High School in their top 25. EVERY other poll ranked them 2 or 3 in the nation.

Bad ratings.

Just so there is no confusion, the rankings I listed above are team rankings not strength of schedule ratings. They are a joke.

Y'all make me laff a little. Anytime a poll comes out, somebody will post it here, then everybody starts smashing it.

If all polls are crap, and folks on this board seem to think they are, then why bother posting them and/or reading them?

Computers do a TERRIBLE job at the high school level because 1) there is only a tiny amount of interstate games. Only a tiny fraction of teams nationwide have any common opponents at all. 2)There are thousands of high schools. No way a computer has any chance of doing a decent job with a power rating. Computers have a hard time at the college level where there are only a few hundred teams and many, many common opponents. They have no chance at the high school level.

MaxPreps has produced some truly stupid results.

I understand exactly what maxpreps is. I have been keeping tabs on teams there for a long time.

I guess I should have worded that differently. Let me try this again.

If everybody is going to bash any numbers produced by man or machine that does not always have every possible slot filled in with a Texas teams, why does anybody bother to read them, listen to them, or talk about them? :D

Mostly to get threads like this going in the first place. I mean, when you take the supports of the #1, #2, #3....teams in one poll (or computer generated whatever) and you show them another poll (or computer generated whatever) and they arent #1, #2, #3....it really gets their goat. You can almost predict who's going to respond and how. There are a lot of people that do ignore these things until the thread takes off. By then the subject of the thread is lost.

Human polls are fine. Is SLC #1? Is Longview #1? Is Trinity #1? Who knows. Opinions and reasons for ranking them are a valid discussion.

When computers spew out mathematical results that have no correlation with reality it's a waste of time. That's the point.

"Computer generated or whatever" is a very important issue in any HS rating.
