View Full Version : Vince Young - Year 2

Vince has made substantial strides since his break-out rookie-of-the-year run last year. His stats are not, and won't be eye-popping. He just wins.
Tennessee lost three big offensive weapons and it seems to have only made VY a better leader and student of the game. He dismantled a desperate, pretty good Saints D last night, on the road, with a badly banged up left arm.
He's gonna be a special player.

Considering the fact that the Titans did less than nothing to help VY this season, most had him regressing. What he's showing all his naysayers is that he is able to make all those around him considerably better. It's not just his confidence/intensity. It not just his legs. It's not just his cannon right arm. The VY package, once completely matured, will be once of the most unique of all time. He'll continue to improve &, hopefully, the Titans will get him some weapons. Fisher is one of the best in the game. He will continue to mold this team into a winner and, eventually, take them back to the Super Bowl. VY will have a ring before it's all over.

"He'd never be a NFL QB...he should be a WR"
I love this......I don't feel bad about the Texans passing on Bush....but Vince should have been a Texan.
Speaking of Bush, I know the guy is EXCTITING....but face it...he was a part of an OFFENSIVE MACHINE at USC....just a part....now with Deuce out for the year, CAN he be the man.......one guy was a part of a Machine, the other IS a Machine.

Really makes you have even more confidence about all the testing they do to potential qb's - not.
That was the first I'd really watched VY this year and was amazed at his poise and decision-making.
If his wr doesn't drop a ball last week - they beat the Colts and are 3-0.

1) I don't get it. You're saying that the Texans should have drafted a qb who starred in high school in Houston & in college in Austin and would have packed the house as a pro as an hometown hero? You're saying they should have saved all the money they gave to a kid they cut & all the draft picks/money on the kid they traded for by taking VY to begin with? What are you some kinda pro gm?;):D
2) Reggie is not built to be the man. He is an amazing talent that needs that otherback(see White @ USC, Deuce in N.O.) to do the heavy hitting so he can dominate a defense on the edges and in space. Could be a long year for Bush & the Saints unless Peyton gets some offensive revealations soon.

When your 9 year old says "WHAT the F#$K!!!" when the Texans take Mario #1 and you forgive him because you understand.....you KNOW that was stupid move.

LOL....someone remind me. He wrote a letter to the Texans front office. I mailed it in and they replied and sent him a framed autographed pic of the Cheerleaders with the letter. I thought that was awesome. Someone remind me to bring the letter in, scan it and post it.
He went on a rant and then told them "good job getting rid of Carr and drafting Okoye"....then at the end told them. "be on the look out for me, I will be about 5'8 175 pounds and a running back for the Texas Longhorns, you need to draft me!" That boy is something....lol Just like his ol man.....:D

Vince has improved statistically. Right now, he's throwing for fewer yards per game, but he's also throwing the ball fewer times a game because the running game has proven to be far better than most thought it would be. As it stands, Vince's completion percentage is way up (almost 63% now compared to 51% last year), his yards per attempt is up, his TD's per game is up, his INTs per game is down, he's getting sacked less and fumbling less.

And doing it all with less around him. Impressive.

When you got Vince in the backfield, no matter what back you stick back there...its gonna happen for them.

I like Fisher. I really don't think the Titans got rid of much. I know that sounds stupid, but I don't think Fisher would have traded those guys if he didn't think the others behind him were just as capable. Vince Young definitely runs the show but the defense has stepped up really well and helped made the AFC South the best Division in football. I also believe Norm Chow deserves some credit, that guy is good.

i admit, i had my doubts about him as an NFL qb coming out of TEXAS...i am in complete agreement with your statement above...he has made a believer out of me.

I agree with all that. Fisher is really an underappreciated coach. He's been one of the best for awhile now & is still young. Their moves, or lack thereof, this offseason just go to show they knew what they had on the roster. As fans, we don't always have a clue.:D Can't say enough about Chow. What a true pro. Folks didn't think he was a lock to make it coming out of USC, the old college coach label. Since he's been with the Titans he's been saavy enough to make two huge decisions others may not have, were they in his shoes. First, he recommended the organization pass on his Heisman winning qb & protege to take VY on draft day. Think about how honest and focused a decision that was. Not many would have balked at the selection but it was the easy, predictable way to go. Most would have chosen Leinhart for nothing more than a more secure job. Chow saw Young and his potential and chose to take on the challenge. Second, unlike about a billion other stubborn coaches, Chow has changed & adjusted his system to better fit Young rather than force VY to do things "his" way. How many times have we seen an oc or a hc refuse to do this? Those things sound small but they are quite the opposite. The Titans whethered some poor seasons as they were held hostage by salary cap woes. As an organization they've held firm to their plan and are very close to turning the corner and becoming a serious player for the next ten years. Impressive.

I know what you mean. His whole career his detractors have said that when he gets to the next level the athletes will catch up to him and he'll be exposed. Last time I checked the NFL was the highest level of organized football on the planet. How are those predictions looking now?

Nice, dada. Very well trained son.
VY just has that ability to elevate everyone around him. He is going to be one of the great NFL QBs before his career is over IMO.

Huge VY fan, and Titans I guess as well now.
I was very impressed Monday night. He threw well except the pick which was a terrible throw. I am surprised not to see more roll outs, like the one for the Scaife TD. Seems to draw attention to one side, let him run it or throw to an open TE/RB the other way.
