NFL - Jason Garrett - no contest
NCAA - Major Applewhite

The red-head is not dead. These guys are big time play callers.

Best - ever. :) Seriously - he called a great game against one of the best D's in the NFL. Cowboys are scoring like a pinball machine right now.

would he look so good with bledsoe, or any other statue-esque qb. he has fallen into a goldmine with romo, but he hasn't hurt anything with his play calling, that's for sure. i can't yet rate major from his alabama stint. he's a comer, however.

Both need more time IMO. In the NFL, the best are Jim Caldwell (who is not young) with the Colts and Josh McDaniels with the Patriots.

mcdaniels benefits from a great scouting system. i'm wondering how he'd do without knowing the defensive signals beforehand.

Not sold on Applewhite, yet. He'll get there but we all seem to be in a real big hurry to annoint him.

From what I understand, it's both Caldwell & Moore. Moore does more of the scheming while Caldwell works with Manning calling plays during the game.

I always thought it was moore who gave 3 plays. like 2 passes and a run or something every play.

I don't know, I could be wholly mistaken and feel free to pwn me at anytime but I'm pretty sure the old guy with the glasses(moore) was the playcaller.

The recordings are useless during the game, and only provide a minimal effect for the next time they play the same opponent.

So if they recorded every team they would only receive a slight advantage on the teams they play multiple times. Great advantage.

You could be right. I know Caldwell is the Assistant HC/QB coach, but I was always under the impression that Moore set things up in the booth and then relayed them down to Caldwell who is always in contact with Manning. Again, I concede that I could be wrong.

What about Lane Kiffin? I know he's a head coach, but he also calls the plays. Look at what he has done so far with the worst offense in the league.

3 games \
22.3 Points per game (1st in AFC West)
341.3 yards per game (2nd in AFC West)
182 Passing Yards per game
159.3 Rushing Yards per game (First in AFC West)
18 First Downs per game
44.4 3rd Down % (2nd in AFC West)
100 4th Down %
33:17 TOP per game (1st in AFC West)

These may not be great stats compared to the Cowboys, but look at what he is working with. Look at where the Raiders were last year to where they are so far this year.

They have had the lead in the 4th quarter in all 3 games. Coming off a 2-14 season, that is amazing.

Kiffin is not the best ever yet, but he is got to be one of the great Young Guys.

Peyton Manning is the best OC in the NFL. If he becomes a coach he will be scary good.

Jim Caldwell hasn't called a play that was actually run in 5-6 years.

What part of the word advantage escapes you? Cheating is cheating. They haven't finished with the investigation yet.
