With the opening of Kincade & with places like HBJ,Hamby,Memorial &
Standridge all converting to turf,I've heard some rumors that some coaches
& district reps are making plans to try to avoid decaying Texas Stadium at
all cost-at least for the first 2 rounds of playoffs! What do you folks
think of this?

1) I hate the smell.
2) It's too old
3) It smells horrible
4) I much rather play a playoff game at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite than play a game at Texas Stadium.

Don't forget that you totally lose the high school atmosphere in that CAVE. Lufkin has not played there since 1998 when they defeated Plano East. The place is cold and drafty, the concession and parking are too expensive and you cant hear the bands. The place just has a bad feel for high school football. We don't plan to ever go back there again, unless we are playing for State.

All valid reasons. The "high school atmosphere" thing I can definately understand. That's one thing I never really liked about La. playing the title games in the Superdome. This year, they will not be played there.. ;)

To me, if it doesn't feel like a High School game to the fans, what must if feel like for the teams?

GarlandOwl06

All of that is true but there is definetly nothing wrong with going out there and getting to see 3 great playoff games for 10 bucks. It is a disgusting place but I do enjoy watching some games there.

Yeah-much like the Houston folks not wanting to play at the Astrodome no
more-no one likes to play at a place that's past its prime!

I think TX stadium is great for high school football playoffs.
#1 It is a great spot for back to back games.
#2 There is a lot of space for parking
#3 Coming down the tunnel for players is an awesome experience
(I've been there).
#4 The fans watching their team come out of the tunnel is awesome-
#5 You can usually find a very good close seat.
#6 The 1/2 dome creates an awesome playoff atmosphere.
#7 The players know that when they are playing a TX stadium that it is a new season and that it is something special.

What's wrong with TexasStadium? I mean, besides that being where the Cowboys play...I've noticed the seats have shrunk since my first visit to Texas Stadium in 1988 to watch a play-off game. Is it the Texas heat or the cold that causes the shrinkage? Just wondering.

I think it's special to play in other teams stadiums. When it gets to be like a safety issue such as the Astrodome, I say go elsewhere. I always like Superdome games and all the titles on the line in one place.

With all of it's warts and odors, Texas Stadium has still been a great venue over the years. All of the criticisms are true, but some classic games have been played there. With it's demise, the days of double and tripleheaders may be over, and that would be a shame (I can't think of a better way to spend the Friday after Thanksgiving than sitting at Texas stadium all day watching football). I doubt the new Cowboy's stadium will host a lot of games because they'll have a grass field instead of turf, and too many games will tear the field up.

the asdome is the world's worst football venue. not a good seat in the house, terrible turf, unless they have recently changed it, and talk about sterility and a non-hs environment. there is really nothing wrong with the asdome that a little demolition wouldn't take care of.

Lord I hope so. Texas Stadium is an absolute dump!! Jerry Jones quit maintaining it years ago and don't expect it to get any better with the new stadium coming down the road. Also his entire staff is a bunch of jerks. Year before last they made the cheerleaders pour out the water in their thermos so they would have to buy his over priced drinks. My friend is a diabetic and they jerks would not let him bring in 2 bars of candy. To h--- with Jones and Texas Stadium!!

Sorry guys, but some of the best days of my life were spent sitting in Texas Stadium on a Saturday afternoon or evening, watching a triple header and over paying for Super Bowl nachos (the best stadium nachos in the world) and a large Dr.Pepper.

In spite of all its faults, I'll miss it when it's gone.

Texas Stadium has been a great place for high school football. I don't understand men that talk about how bad a stadium smells or looks. I can honestly say that I have never thought about that stuff at a football game. I can understand women wanting a more comfortable surroundings, but men? I don't understand that at all.

Ive always enjoyed games at Texas Stadium... Some memorable games like Tyler Lee vs TWHS in 03' or Garland vs SGP in 99... ive never noticed the smell (is there one?), but it does feel alot different than playing at some stadium like Memorial in Mesquite. I love seeing games there, I loved coming out of that tunnel when I was at Garland, and I hope they keep having triple headers after Thanksgiving :D... always fun...

I attended each set of playoff games each weekend last year. First time I sat on loop 12 for about 2 hours and got to the first game, Mac/Denton Ryan with half the first quarter already gone. Then the next week I decided to leave early and still sat on loop 12 for about an hour. Each week: loop 12 forever.

The only thing going for it is the NFL stadium and its history, but people are correct it sucks out the high school atmosphere with the empty seats, dome style and all.

If you are coming from Bedford, you should have no trouble at all getting to the stadium. I lived out there and went to the games at Texas Stadium about every weekend for 10 years.

Go east on 183 and get off on Carl Road. Take a left. Take a right on Northgate. Take a right where that dead ends and then take your first left. This is the little road that goes over Loop 12 right into the stadium. I have never had to wait at all going this way.

I live about 5 miles from the place and try not to go by there even! Paying Jerry prices for concessions is crazy. I am a diabetic and they took my candy one year too! I raised holy %$$#%^&** with the UIL and got an apology. Definitely need a newer BIG venue for the playoffs!!!! :)

I like the Alamodome. Good hamburgers. No bad seats.

People are right about the Astrodome.........it sucks as a football venue. I've attended some memorable Katy and Oiler games there but was always wishing the games were somewhere else. The seats are too far from the field. The stadium was designed as a baseball stadium only. The only good thing about it is that it's air conditioned.

by no bad seats, do you mean in the upholstry sense. it is filled with bad seats in the football watching sense.

it used to be easier on your joints to play on the parking lot, as there were fewer inconsistencies, and equal cushioning.

You gotta remember, I watched two or three Katy playoff games in the Astrodome and then went to SA for the Clemens and SLC games. Much better digs than the HDome.

Where else in the state of Texas can you see three playoff games for the price of one?

Tip to remember: Carry a bag packed with cold weather gear but sneak in food and drinks under your clothing - usually it's cool/cold when the playoffs roll around so coats help hide the food/drinks and I've never had the attendants search my person. They may search your bag but never your person unless it's that obvious and you're an idiot.

I think those expensive Southlake sniffers are a bit more sensitive than my redneck Garland snoot. I thought a football stadium was supposed to smell like that, so however it smells, I haven't noticed it.

I also bet Southlake, in general, smells better than generally lower middle class Garland. I just may be more used to that smell than you. :D :D

I know all our Garland High kids got pretty worked up about it. Over the almost 22 years I've been a mailman, I've probably known and talked to regularly about 30 or 40 kids who played at one Garland school or another and all who made the playoffs wanted to play there and considered getting to play there the highlight of their careers to that point. All the ones who didn't get to, wanted it.....really bad.

It seems like this shouldn't matter to good teams who are in the playoffs every year. They may play at Texas Stadium a few times a year, and their players should be used to it as sophomores and juniors. It should be old hat to these teams.

I love Texas Stadium, maybe its from going to games there since the 80's, but its one of my favorite venues to watch a playoff game at. I love hearing the bands march down the tunnel followed by the drill teams, watching the players run out of the tunnel and more. Nothing beats a double header on friday night followed by a triple header on saturday. Some of the best games I have ever seen were at TX Stadium. I know people like new, but I love Texas stadium and hope that games can continue to be played there.

But, I can see Ledbetter's point, because they were 2A & 3A back then, so they didn't play in Texas Stadium that often. Usually Texas Stadium didn't come until either the Semi-Finals or Finals. So, I could see where the stadium might be awe-inspiring to those kids.

Texas Stadium should be renamed Dragon Stadium II. SLC played 5 games there last year, 3 the year before and 3 the year before that! that is 11 games at Texas Stadium in the last 3 years. All victories. That is a great winning %! 11-0. Makes Texas Stadium a huge home field advantage for the Dragons!
