Thats like me saying Cove has the best QB in the state Brent Garner. Thats not right, hes ONE of the best. Very versatile, if Cove has to run to win hell pick up 100+ while the runnin back does too. If we gotta pass hell do it too. Against Bryan he threw for 173 and ran for 110

No doubt Cove is having a good year. I just don't think they have the speed or depth to still be hanging around at the end of December. Cove will have to proove themselves for the rest of the state to begin to believe in them the way you do. The way to proove it is by making a deep run in the play-offs. If they are still around in the second or third week of December then I'll be impressed.

Carter is always a regular season stud but can't follow up that success in the play-offs. Unfortunately for Carter, the brackets always end up pairing them with Longview early. That's a roadblock I just don't see Carter breaking through this year.

Cove doesn't have the speed? Thats why Cove is so good!!! Garner QB 4.6, Buckram Rb 4.3, Millsap RB 4.3, WR Powell 4.5....Slowest man on D runs a 5.3....No Speed...C'mon...

Polls do not really mean that much right now. However, all the top ten teams are currently undefeated. If you have a loss at this time then you are not a "Top Ten" team as of 10/3/05. The top ten will change week to week depending on how each team does. Right now a loss of any kind will make you tumble.

It all depends on what part of the game Judson gives up a score. If they're up 38-0 and TR gets a TD, it might not say anything, but if TR scores 10 points in the first half, I'll think about agreeing.

I don't mean it as a shot and am really serious. I know Clemens always has a real good defense and they played good defense for the most part against Judson in the playoffs. I was at the game the 2 years before that, too.
I do think it's legit to say we can't draw a lot of conclusions about them so far. I'll have a better idea after San Marcos and Seguin. I still have 5 weeks to say Clemens will beat Judson and I'll say it if I believe it.
What we can say about Judson is they'll beat most teams and can struggle with the top teams. If their offense improves, their chances to win a lot in the playoffs goes up exponentially.

I would agree with you that if Judson's offense takes off, then everyone better look out! I have never questioned their defense. Judson's defense year end and year out is always good and that defense is a big reason for all of the hardware in the case!

I like it how Leander has gotten votes every week for the top 10 but we've just missed out. Lets keep it that way for the rest of the year. I like being undefeated and being oh #12 or so. It keeps the publicity off of us (because every year we just crack the top 10, we lose that game no matter who we play).

I would have to say the top 6 are placed properly. I believe those are clearly the best in 5A, I could see anyone of them winning it all. I still believe SLC is the team to beat in Division 2 and Westfield in Division 1. It would not shock me to see any of the other 4 make it to the finals. I'm still not sold on Carter, although this is the best they've looked since Wilson arrived. The question for them will be what can they do when they have to pass. They're still a little 1 dimensional - but that one dimension is pretty good, especially with Curtis Bailey up front. I still like Smithson Valley as a darkhorse, they are very well coached and will be a tough out in the playoffs.

Abilene has a 10'2" receiver who runs a 4.2 in the 40. At least that's what Texas Football said! :D Lyle Leong is a good receiver and Taylor Potts is a good QB and they'll be a tough draw for SLC in Round 3.

True enough lonny, we don't know if it's the best, but we do know it's good. I assume what you're saying is that it's unknown just how good the defense really is because most of the teams have been subpar.
On the other hand, given the competition, they are doing exactly what a great defense would do...keep 'em out of the endzone, create turnovers, and also score. If they weren't that good, even the lesser teams would be scoring more than they are now.
We'll see if they're really, really good or just really good. :D

RidgePride,
The last meeting between Carter and Longview was in 2002. It was a close game throughout. It was 10-7 Longview in the final minutes to play and Longview broke for a huge play to seal their victory 17-7. Longview showed to be the better team that year because Carter didn't follow through to do what it took to win the game in which they had plenty chances.

I was just messing with you. What you are saying however is nothing new. SLC always has great players. If SV only had an offense this year, they would be back to face you guys. However, SLC might run into someone in the playoffs this year early that will have a chance. Its not as predictible as it was last year. Good luck to you guys, and I hear the RB has started doing better. Thats always good. Oh yea, the last I seen of SLC was against Lee. Didnt look too hot (for a SLC team), but I knew they would get it going. Abilene, Lufkin, Longview, and if Pflugerville can figure out a way to hold onto the ball are going to be tough competition this year. Looks like SLC will have another hard road. I honestly think that if Pflugerville would not turn the ball over so much, and if their defense got a little better, they might see you guys late...

Yeah I saw that.. I was actually a little shocked. I never thought much of him at QB. He didnt seem to gel with the ECA offense at QB. But I guess if he is doing good (and it appears he is) then good for him. I hope he has a successful career for college. He only the QB because of where he is though. But if thats what he wants then it's a good thing. At a big school he'd be running.. If playing at all.

However, they have averaged about 350 yards rushing the last two weeks. Season to date they gain 55% of their yards passing and 45% rushing. Quite balanced. It's due in large part to the huge rushing games over the last two weeks.
