My thoughts of the game: I know I’ll get blasted, bashed, etc, I can take it but until I watch the game again on tape you won’t/can’t change my mind.. I will post a retraction if I’m wrong..

SLC:
I had respect for Mr. Riley Dodge until last night. This is a cocky, spoiled punk. What?? You get the calls when you throw your hands in the air. Yes, the 1st late hit was late, the 2nd was from one of your own o-line man pushing in the back a Rockwall defense player on you.. good call ref. :Censor: Oh, what about the taunting of pointing to the Rockwall sidelines from the middle of field after SLC went up 28-21. Rockwall:

Coach Smith (HELLO?!?!) get the DB #10 out of the game. He can’t play with the big and somewhat fast WR’s.. If he played off 10+ yds, SLC threw short outs; when he came up on the WR’s, it was off to the races (TD’s). Allen exposed this, now SLC, and hell even last year my wife pointed it out to me that other teams were going after #10. It’s that obvious..

Rockwall team needs to get into CONDITIONING… Both the Offense and Defense were tired by the last half of the 4th quarter. Dodge didn't seem any more cocky than normal. He threw up and then immediately threw a TD pass in the state championship. He has carte blanche in my book.

:puke

Rockwall looked darn good. They should have a good run this year.

Ken-In-Rockwall...

You have always been one of the most informative and quality posters on this forum, so I'm not going to react to some of the points in you above post.

I do want to say this. Rockwall is a good team and played with tremendous heart and desire last night. Braden Smith was spectacular. Your recievers did a great job of catching passes in traffic and YAC. We were fortunate to win this game. Good luck for the remainder of the regular season and through your insuing playoff run.

WOW!

I was feeling bad about how you talked about SLC, then I read your Rockwall comments. LOL with fans like you, who needs opponents!

I think SLC fans are going thru some tough times right now because we are spoiled by the last 4 years. But we will never talk about the boys on the team like they should be executed or hanged.

These are some parent's kids out there doing their best. I think you with the JUST SHUT UP AWARD! this week.

ps. When you watch the game on TV you see that the late hits were ALL legit. In addition, after Cantu? caught a bomb for a TD, the Rockwall player who tackled him in th end zone punched the ball from his hands (no flag). I also this Rockwall played a great game.

Ken,

I can't be mad at you. You're full of passion and speak from the heart. Alot of the things you mention, we're all guilty of thinking from time to time. I told you early this summer that I thought your squad would be ready to take the fight to us & they did not disappoint. Folks are forgetting that this is a top 15 squad that has now given two top 5-10 teams all they wanted. My feeling is y'all will continue to improve and grow. Come playoff time. the Jackets will make some noise. Great game. Wish I could have been there.

Ken,
I have always respected your comments. I would strongly advise that you back down a bit.. Until you have a player on the field on Friday Nights I don't believe you have the right to bash our players!! Yes you make some valid points some of which I agree but you do not see me bashing them on a public web site... BACK DOWN!!!! People get bashed on here while having valid points much less a post attacking a player.

I disagree with you on the personal fouls. As for Dodge pointing I would assume that he was taunted by a player and he pointed at him to make a point. Get the point?(I'm being silly now).:)

The only comment I'll touch in this one is the interference call on Rockwall w/ Cantu..when your DB starts pushing the WR 5 yards from the sideline without ever looking around for the ball, does it matter very much if it is just out of reach?

Ken,

I have a lot of respect for you. As a die hard fan I feel your pain. Riley is a handful but most team leaders are. Hey, watch the game if you can and remember there is no shame in the effort your team gave last night. If we don't have to play the Jackets again this year it would be fine with me.:)

I like Riley Dodge he's a great qb but from what ive seen and heard this year from the mistakes (int's,bad throws) hes not doing so great but i think he will step it up i mean he (and his team) beat euless trinity and austin westlake and he had the flu that game so that takes a man to do what he has acomplished i think you need to back off of him Ken hes a great athlete and competitor when they start losing a lot or to bad teams then you can talk and until then give him a break

Rockwall has a great offense and not much of a defense, dito for Southlake. Both teams are playing for the playoffs.
I thought the interference call was correct.
I was more amazed by the Southlake offense rightfully refusing to allow the punt team to come on the field. Southlake called a timeout because of the confusion and then went for it. I am not sure that looked like the Coach was in control.

I love their confidence but I think it is also one of the reasons for all the turnovers. I like to see them a little more grounded. The best thing that can happen for this squad is the start of district. No more television, magazines covers or websites dedicated to their greatness. They can now go play for 7 or 8 weeks with no more coverage than the next team. I expect that during this time they will forge their own identity and be ready for a deep playoff run.

I agree. Now that 'theatrics' are out of the way, Southlake can now concentrate on the first real job of the season - Win District.

Okay, just something to think about...

Maybe the problem is with Rockwall and your defenders.

So there were two or three unsportsmanlike calls against rockwall and i know of one for sure against slc. If you can pull up the stats and show me that riley's getting pampered by refs in masses of game dating back through last year, then I'll listen, but have you ever considered that Rockwall is the exception, and that if you didn't hit people after the whistle you wouldn't get called?

the linesman that blew the int call, also blew a nice sideline catch by brainard on the next series. he had some issues it seemed. did he also miss the offsides on the kickoff? rwall did a great job capitalizing on the to's, and slc did a great job ignoring them and coming back, despite some less than stellar plays/penalties early on.

True, but Rockwallians don't tend to want to hear that they're fallible. They tend to believe that the hype falls short of the truth. I think Rockwall will win district (and act like it is the best thing to ever happen to a football team) and then be one-and-done in the playoffs again. When was the last time Rockwall won a playoff game? However South or Garland or Naaman will not win district, but will win a playoff game or two. In the end, someone other than Rockwall will have the best season in this district.

About Riley, what a pleasure to watch. He reminds me of qb's from the old days; tough as nails, tactful, and one of the best athletes on the team. Some of the stuff he does, though, can give opposing fans lots to complain about. His helmet comes off more often than A&M wins, and he does plead his case to the refs better than Denny Crane. Spoiled/punk...definitely not! Hard nosed competitor? Yep, just a little theatrical at times...like most players, current and past.

Somebody wins...somebody loses. Appreciate what the kids and coaches present to us, and go on from there!

The only bad call i thought in the game was the Pass int. there was no way anyone could have caught that ball. Rockwall killed themselves with penalties when they had SLC in a postion where they had to punt.
I wasnt really impressed with Rwalls offense, to me it was just SLC D wasnt that good (at least the seconday) Rwalls runningback was pretty good though.
I am excited to see how SLC will do against the elite teams in the state cuz i dont think they will win if they keep this up.

You know i'm right, brotha!
I still think our district should be:
Trinity
SLC
Grapevine
Heritage
Bell
And maybe a couple of Keller Schools for fun:D

;) Makes too much sense which means it can't happen in UIL land. :D

so the one-hop int was a good call? and the sideline catch ruled oob was good too? his choice of uniform may be a bit off-putting, too.

I give Riley a pass for anything he did based on his past class acts and sportsmanship. He probably got caught up in the comeback heat of the moment IF he did anything out of line. These are kids.

You can't blame a kid for being intense and if the refs fall for the theaterics, shame on them. I also saw RD patting guys on the back and hugging a few of the Rockwall guys after the final whistle. He plays his guts out, as we've all seen. Ken's just a little wound up but he'll be ok.

How about we just leave most things as they are in 55 and 75 and swap Carroll for Jesuit?

My only comment on this is about your perception of Riley. Did you not see him hug like half your football team after the game? Help your players up or pat them on the back after a tackle? The ONLY thing I could see him being berated for is how he stands up to refs...but this kid knows more football than all of us combined! Of course he's going to try and get things swung his way. But as for being a classy guy....I've never seen one player go to such lengths to congratulate his opponents.

I lied i did also want to mention that with all those fancy new developments in the city of rockwall you guys should be able to afford new unis. Even on TV that orange was just painful.

I thought it was cool to see the SC sidelines on TV...they looked very professional and collegiate-level.

lol i've been called one before. Hey, i think Riley is a great player. If it wasnt for him they would have lost by 14+. Tre was a nonfactor last night and Riley was forced to carry the team. I bet his back hurts today.

Ken,

I have a lot of respect for you. As a die hard fan I feel your pain. Riley is a handful but most team leaders are. Hey, watch the game if you can and remember there is no shame in the effort your team gave last night. If we don't have to play the Jackets again this year it would be fine with me.:)
Absolutely what I was thinking. Sometimes you look wasted in the 4th quarter because it is the freakin 4th quarter in a game you left it all on the field.

I was impressed by the respect Rockwall showed in their demeanor while the SLC player was down. Classy. I do believe it changed the momentum of the game. Probably from both sides perspective.

About cockiness and all that. One can only hope that at some point what goes around comes around. I thought I saw the same thing you did as well. However, what did I really see? Idunno. Its all out of context. I was not on the field. The next level up of play is a whole other deal, so some players that are cocky in High School, are not so much later on. UNT will probably not be national champion any time soon. So there will be some character building. This will help Riley for his coaching career. Also, these are kids. Maybe I should have started with that.

I have nothing to slam SLC with in this game. That has been done. They came back and won one maybe they should not have. Champions do that. That said Rockwall could have won this game. What a great tuneup for them.

Rockwall Rocks.

AGREED!
Besides I dont know of many 17 year olds that aren't a little cocky.
I know I was.:DYou never know as much in your life as you do when you are 17.

Or maybe until you join this board.

If early results are indicative of things in 9-5A, Rockwall will draw either Plano or PESH in the first week of the PO's.......

Exactly. One and done again.

~DnM:eek: No way. In fact, I wish he did not make that run in the MNW game where he was hit by four players and had to come out bleeding. The game seemed to turn there.

Dodge for this year.

95 attempts
68 completions
72% completion rate

13 TDs
5 INTs(one was bogus)

1011 yards
10.6 yards per attempt

And this is against MNW and Rockwall.

I know. Did you see him plow over that db on the long run that got called back in the second half? I was watchin at home. On the replay the camera angle was perfect, peering right into RD's helmet. He actually sought out that contact, looking right at the db and lowering his shoulder. Sweet.

I disagree. I realize that drive ended with yet another turnover but I thought Padron came in fearless and had a good rhythm. I also think that he had an easier time seeing the passing lanes than RD did. That DL was huge.

I think Pardon did a great job. The fact that he came out throwing was very good. I do think he missed on a TD.
I will add one caveat to my statement. I was situated on the grassy area in the opposite endzone. It appeared from that angle that had he led the receiver a bit more he would have scored.

Followup:

1st – I would like to apologize to the members of this board for my ranting.

2nd – I would like to apologize to Riley, and to the SLC fans. Is he cocky, yes, but a leader must be. A ‘punk’, NO!! He did point to the Rockwall sidelines from the middle of field after SLC went up 28-21, but that was excitement and enthusiasm (or he can wait until he’s a pro like T. Owens and pay the fines).

3rd – The ‘late’ hit when his helmet came off, showed that the defender was already leaning/going down towards Dodge. The defender could not have stopped even if he wanted to. The 2nd late hit was quite obvious. (After having a detailed discussion with a ref that works at my company, even he stated that Dodge’s helmet seems to come off easily). “ Lonestart48: His helmet comes off more often than A&M wins, and he does plead his case to the refs better than Denny Crane.”

4th - The 1st interception was catch and then a fumble. The 2nd was NOT caught, It hit the ground. The pass interference was wrong, the Rockwall player, and the ball got there at the same time, But the receivers foot was on the white line and even the side ref motioned of ball over head (not catchable). The ball hit the ground 3-4 feet out of bounds on the white strip and bounced up into a coach’s face. Face Guarding, yes-maybe but not pass interference.

Finally:

I have always been a straight and stand up type person, BUT my competitiveness and passion for the game clouded by words and judgment. I have to pull back and get my perspective back and in control. I have to do this!!

THUS: I feel that I must impose a self 2 week ban from reading the boards or private messages (damn, this is going to be hard and some may want more) from ALL message boards/forums. I’m doing this before AN ADMIN DOES IT FOR ME !

Have fun and hopefully players and fans are safe and injury free.

Rockwall Rocks.

I noticed that as well. Their players, fans, cheerleaders, etc all took a knee and applauded when he got up. That's one thing I wish SC would do that I don't often see (unless it's a serious injury). Overall it seemed like Rockwall was a great all around opponent.
