Tonight is a pivotal game for the trojans. They need to forget about the mess last week and get it together against Waco. Waco is a very good team and anything can happen. Both teams have a few injuries, but it should not matter.

My thoughts are that ET's qb is not good at all. He was completely over-whelmed by a pretty good D, and his surrounding offensive cast looked totally lost. I think they win tonight, but they have some serious offensive issues.

His main problem is hesitation. He will improve with time. There were several changes to positions last week. I believe they will get back to what they do best. The quarterback has the ability, but he has to get the confidence and take the risks. His passes need more authority and he has to be more decisive. If Trinity goes back to the run domination game, he will have less to worry about except the handoff and timing. Believe me, Trinity should be greatly improved tonight. They are too proud to let it change the season.

Tonight may be another stiff challenge for Trinity. I think they're still alot of work to do with the Trojan team. Like the Dragons, they have miles to go. I gotta believe that, by playoff time, this group of Trojans will be flexing the muscles. They've had far too much success as freshmen and on their JV squads for it not to translate into a tremendous varsity squad. The size, speed ,talent & coaching are all there. It may not come together tonight but it will come together.

I totally agree!!! Like any other fan, we are a little impatient sometimes. He did well against Lee, but he had several brain farts against Permian. I think players will go back to their old positions and return to their old ways of success. Lineweaver was trying some new combinations last week and they weren't ready. I think they will have fire in their eyes tonight.
By the way, SLC93, it would be nice to see a Cantu/Dodge combination in college.

Yeah, it would. Although I think Blake would be silly to turn down Oregon. That's a big time program at this point.

As fans of very successful programs, we're spoiled. Nondistrict is the time to experiment and work out kinks as you prepare for district. Teams lose from time to time. They always have, especially in Texas where the competition is so stout. I know what both of these team's underclassmen have acheived and are acheiving. The future is still quite bright for both of these schools.
As far as I'm concerned all the DI kids should go to UNT and be with their former coach. Talk about built in chemistry!;):D

Trinity fans have short memories and are a bit spoiled by their recent success, me included. Lineweaver has always used nondistrict games to evaluate his talent, try a new look or two, move kids around and challenge his team. Yes, there is some work to be done but I can't remember a Lineweaver team not ever being ready for district and the playoffs. Think all the way back to 2004 (I know it's hard) and remember how we started that season 1 -2 with a junior quarterback and a young offense. We ended up going 10 - 4 and were quarterfinal champs. There are so many similarities between the 2004 squad and this team. Be patient.

We will be fine - I think I would rather take my loss early and learn from it then have a cake walk predistrict and be shocked when we aren't as good as we thought!
I believe in Lineweaver and our other coaches - this team will be ready when it counts and our experimentation will be behind us and we will have our reliable bread and butter and a few surprises built in - you can't help but think that the coaches maybe had too much time this summer and saw our talent and wanted to try new things to shake things up a bit - and maybe got a little to complicated in the plays - I think the coaches will step up to the plate for the boys and simplify!

That was with one minute left, long pass against backups to 2 yard line. Even on that play, coverage was there he just made a good play.
Yes to answer your question, brutal as in dominate.

We were playing a 2nd stringer at QB.
Our fullback was moved to RB.
I assume our FB is a 3rd, 4th, or 5th stringer running back.
We were without two of our main starters on the OLINE.
Our two fastest backs and the greatest ones did not play.
Silmon is out due to knee for the year.
Salubi is out until district.
I thought our defense did well since we knew our offense would be sorry.
13-0 at the half...I was happy about that.
Defense was on the field the whole game. They did pretty good....

You guy's have a GREAT front seven. You guys' put 9 in the box and controlled the line of scrimmage. That also caused you to get burnt on some passes. Good job overall for Waco.

i second that, waco's front 7 was awesome, when they get healthy they will be a monster,,, trinity also was missing key players, db, an starting o-lineman,
and fullback were out..but the qb made no mistakes and the vertical passing game was solid, still a lot of room for improvement on both sides of the ball..
kicking game was solid including a 51 yard field goal with room to spare..

We probably have the best front 7 in the state at all levels.
We look great when we are healthy....... if we had Salubi and Silmon at RB it would have been a great great game.
I hope we continue the series for the next few years.

Super you need to press on and quit worrying about your starters. Injuries are part of the game and you play who you have. Yaw are a very good scrappy type team that I think will be tough to handle. Yaw ran into a team tonight that I don't think you would have beaten with all your starters. ET would not be denied tonight!!! Our D is really good and last week just got tired of being on the field to much. Good luck the rest of the way and get em in 4A. By the way did you go to game tonight?? Yaw could have had more people there tonight. HAKAAAAAAAAA!!

I think our boys rose to the challenge last night - the defense was AWESOME. McGhee was much improved - he made better decisions and got better protection - I think when our o-line plays the same position for a couple of weeks we will start to see that push that opens up our running game. The coaches have been moving them around and trying different things and I think that makes them better players - but doesn't allow them to gel right away - we have a couple of injuries but when they return to add that leadership - our line will step it up a notch.
Waco's defense is FAST!!!!! If they continue to play at that level and with the return of their starters that are injured, I don't see why they can't make a DEEEEEEP run in the playoffs - we could even be looking at 4A champs!
The Trojans are pulling for you!!! :D

I had an absolute blast last night attending this game with Bigfoot and his family, Baylordad, btrain and trojanfan4life. All great people.
The Trinity defense looked flat out awesome. By my calculations they held Waco to a total of 4 yds in the 1st quarter and about 40 for the first half. I think Waco only crossed midfield 2x all game.
The Waco defense is freaking awesome too. They did controll the LOS and Trinity could not est the running game. The last TD for the Trojans came on a impressive drive that saw mostly rushing howevber the Waco defense was just worn down by that time. I don't see too many teams scoring much against this D. Very fast, very athletic and VERY good. Trinity should keep improving and they will be a force once again come November. It seems foolish that some have already written the Trojans off.

We excuted a whole lot better than we did out west. But, we need to get that much better each game for several games to go any where in the playoffs. Waco's defense is tremendous!! They will go a long way regardless of their injuries on offense. Our defense played a heck of a lot better not having to be on the field as much as they were at Permian. Waco can defend the run against anyone. We need out O-Line to BLOCK!! We out weighed the Lion's D-Line by no telling how much but they out hustled us big time. Luck to the Waco boys and hope you get all your injuries mended.

I am posting long after the game, I've been busy. Spartan78 and his son came up from Houston for some College tours, and came to the game. We had a great time!
Waco has an awesome team! I might get some argument from others on this; but in my opinion, Waco stopped our rushing game better than anyone has in about 4 years. I know this is a bold statement, but I'm callin it like I saw it. They did a great job stacking the line, and held on when they tackled. Usually, as a Trinity fan, I am disappointed if we don't get at least 8 yards on a carry. I think we are used to this. Not against Waco. We probably only had about 5 carries over 8 yards. But.....this was at the expense of the passing game. Our passing game was one of the best I've seen in a while. We won the game on passing. Yes, Trinity won a game in the air. We ran quite a few plays in the spread. It was hilarious for me to watch. I am not used to seeing us do this! We did the same thing as Southlake! I mean the play signal from the sidelines, the players looking around like their lost, the linemen looking all over the place! For me, it was very surreal! Our Defensive backfield is just awesome! We had a key starter Eryan Barnett out in the Dbackfield, and it didn't matter too much. We had a key Oline starter Nate Adams out that I feel would have made a difference on the Oline for us. We had 1 or 2 more key starters out that I can't remember. Coach Lineweaver is awesome! I believe everyone on the sidelines had a chance to play! Our kicker was awesome as usual. Made a 51 yard field goal look easy, and our special teams played perfect! If we need to win a game by a field goal, we have it sealed!
What was up with our fans? They were quiet and subdued compared to normal. We need to pump it up!!!
I forget to mention Waco's QB. I know he was the backup, but I thought he did a great job with what he had to work with. Our D is just awesome, and he was under constant pressure. He really saved alot of yardage getting rid of the ball, and not getting grounding calls. He did this about 4 times, and I thought he looked like a pro. He would be a starter at alot of 5A schools. I would hate to see your 1st string RB. That #31 was awesome and fast. His only flaw is that he stood too straight up when carrying the ball in my opinion.
Did anyone else notice 6'8" Robert Griffin chasing down the QB and the RBs all night? He has added much more speed. He has gotten better at sheding the triple team.

Thanks very much to FeeltheHaka and his friends for making my son and me feel very welcome at our first Trinity game. BBQ at North Main and superb seats .... couldn't have been better. THANKS!
I share a lot of FTH's assessments. I know that to you Trojan fans this feels kinda like a rebuilding year, but believe me you have an extremely physical, athletic, DEEP and well-coached ballclub that would overmatch most everybody down in the Houston area. I can think of maybe three schools down our way that have the horses to give ET a good game.
I enjoyed watching a power offense with an O line getting off the ball and pushing the D line, although Waco sure did put up a great fight. I think the Lions are going to beat a lot of people in 4A and they would beat a lot of people in 5A for that matter. But ET was just too big, too fast, too deep. I know Waco was missing a few key elements, and perhaps that would have made the game closer, but to me Trinity's defense was too stifling for even a GREAT running back to make much of a difference.
Really loved the atmosphere, the sense of community there at ET, and of course the Haka. Lots of fun.
Coach Lineweaver is a class guy and I loved the way he made sure almost everybody got in the game .... and not just in garbage time either. He does some things to engender a sense of community there that a lot of football coaches would never do. Kudos to him for seeing the bigger picture and acting on it.
Trojans, I think you have two new fans in Houston. As we always used to say in those handshake lines post-game, "good luck in district."
GATA!

Such gracious and knowledgable Trinity fans, a true testament to your programs success. We did have some key injuries in skill positions, and had they been in, it would have been nice to see them play against the best defense we'll see all season. We would have likely still lost the game though because Trinity is that BIG and that deep and it would be tough for most teams to sustain 4 quarters banging against that team. Much success.

Waco has the defensive line to go far in the playoffs. It was a good game.
Good luck to your team.
The most important changes this week were:
1. Griffin back to defense
2. OL getting their assignments set and beginning to work as a group
3. the running game will get better as the OL improves because we have
horses to run
4. good way to start district
5. the fans were still excited even with the loss and that will go a long way
I think we can only get better next this week with Nate Adams back; he is a huge part of the OL. Then getting our other guys back will be a plus too.
However, I must say those players filling in for the injuries did a great job and will probably get a lot of playing time in district.
This game was light years away from the previous performance and that is a good thing.
