After looking at the standings and following what each team is and has done to this point, I feel confident that Katy could go to D1 this year. I am not trying to start a we are the best thread. I just want some feed back from you guys who follow 18-5A as close as I do and see what you think.
My thoughts on the final 18-5A standings:

1. Katy 7-0 (5) *
2. Alief Taylor 5-2 (7)
3. Mayde Creek 4-3 (6)
4,5 Alief Hastings/Alief Elisk (winner of this game is 4) (1 and 2) *
6. Cinco Ranch 3-4 (3)
7. Morton Ranch 1-6 (8)
8. Katy Taylor 0-7 (maybe not) (4)
* D1 playoff teams

I think it is just too early to tell.
Elsik lost to 2 real good teams. They have a (1-1) Westside team this week. I wouldn't count Elsik out just yet.
Hastings - I was hoping they were going to be good this year. The only loss they have came at the hands of Marshall at Crump. Marshall could beat almost anyone in our district. I don't believe you can count Hastings out either.
ATaylor - (2-1) really hasn't beaten anybody. Granted they did a better job on Kempner than Pearland did, but they lost to CyFair at home. CyFair didn't play their ace RB. To me they haven't proven to be a contender for the playoffs just yet. I believe any 185a team(except Katy) would have the same record as ATaylor if they played the same schedule.
Cinco Ranch - Biggest question mark to me. Their non-district losses are more than understandable. I think they are the wild card to if Katy goes D1 or D2
MaydeCreek - I excited about them. Didn't think much about their W over the Vikings or their loss to the Lobos (expected that), but beating LC,:)
Morton Ranch - not much to say. I'd like to see them win a game.
KTaylor - They did what they were supposed to do in non-district. They open district against MaydeCreek. That game will tell us a lot. KTaylor(4), MaydeCreek(6), and Katy right in the middle(5) in enrollments.
I hope the people that voted on this thread but didn't post come back to tell us why they voted how they did. We were all really interested in this topic a couple of weeks ago it seemed.

Still think Cinco Ranch will make a strong showing.
Mayde Creek could be the Cinderella.
Thought Taylor would have a bit more at this point.
I'm not voting because I have no idea who will finish 2-6.
My original picks were:
1. Katy
2. Elsik
3. Cinco
4. A Taylor
I think Elsik & A. Taylor will get two spots, but am far from sure.
Cinco has looked real shaky.
Hastings was my pre-season #5.
Mayde Creek's win over Lamar makes me think they have a chance.
It takes both A. Taylor & Mayde Creek getting in for Katy to be D1.

I know Cinco seems to be the swing school in all this. However, with no qb, they have no offensive power. I think they could easily make a strong run, but right now my feeling is that they won't. I do not believe they win more than 3 games in district. Katy Taylor is actually a bigger ? mark in my book. They have looked horrible, but they scored 20 points on Falls which supposedly "has all this speed". I still feel they will be at the bottom. Mayde Creek is showing signs of being able to do it. They got the * off their schedule this year with Katy(*homecoming game) and do not play Katy until the last game in district. Too bad for Morton Ranch. MC should make the playoffs at either the 3 position or the 4. The Alief schools could feasibly finish 2,3,4, but I do not believe they will. Morton Ranch will win 1 district game this year, who that is, no one knows(Katy Tayor). It is all too early to tell, but the possibility is there. Plus it gives us something to discuss and refocus our attention to Katy, who btw, is THE #1 Undefeated team in Texas!

When I read your first post I was thinking you were way off...:D. But I went to my government class right after and spent the whole hour-twenty minute class completely redoing my predictions and they came out almost exactly like yours. I don't know if you saw my original predictions but they were WAAAAAY different.
I tried to keep Mayde Creek's season order in mind.
I really think that if they can beat Taylor in their first district game, they'll know they can hang with Hastings.
Morton shouldn't be a problem as long as they stay grounded and focused after those first two games play out.
If they pull that off I think they'll go into the Cinco game with everything they need to really bring it to them.
And if they beat Cinco...well, anyone's fair game after that! I just think the Alief schools offer better teams than Katy this year... so I don't know about them finishing any better than 5-2, even though that'd be awesome.
I work with quite a few kids who go to the school and who are involved with the team/program, and they want it more than you could imagine. I mean, last year's 1-9 season is not sitting well with them. They love their coaches and want to win for them and the school... it's awesome to see a program getting a kick start like this.

I would love to see Mayde Creek have a cinderella season this year. It has been a while for them. It was a lot of fun in 1997 when Katy went to state and MC went to the quarterfinals.

katy will be D2. all the alief schools this year will come in 2,3,4. The only thing that might hold the Aleif schools back is late in the season when grades come out.

Yeah, I think Elsik (especially) and Mayde Creek are the wild cards right now. I'd really like to see MC and Taylor play next week.

Oh GOD...It would really suck if Katy went D-1 and SLC ended up going D-2 like I have predicted all year.
Whatever Division we end up in, we can only hope the SLC ends up in the same Division.

I might be way off here, but does it not seem as important to play SLC now that they've lost to MNW? I mean, it's official: SLC has been beat. Is it still going to be as epic when a Texas team does it?

Dont read anything into this that not there....It really will come down to mayde creek and their biggest question for the season comes up in a couple of weeks....it's not an opponent...but report cards. This is just a fact, that they are decimated by failing grades every year. Hopefully the HC has instilled that value around there...I believe he will. The more discipline he instills on the field will leak off the field too. Their failling grades have nothing to do with intelligence just the level of apathy... in that program's past, it has been ridiculous.
I am pulling for mayde creek and have been a MC supporter since highschool. I hope they finish second in the district and bring our district back to where it used to be. Right now they have everyhting in front of them.....keep making the choices you are making now. Go rams and keep it up

UIL enrollment dictates who goes to what Division. Of the 4 teams that make the playoffs, the two smaller schools go to D2 and the larger two go to D1.
As of today, Katy sits at position 5 with 4 schools being larger. Alief Taylor, Mayde Creek and Morton Ranch are smaller. I can see Alief makin' it to playoffs , but it's a stretch for Mayde or Morton to get a ticket to the dance.
But then again, somebody once told me he actually saw a pig fly so you never know!

Not for Katy! I know that sounds very bigheaded (becuase it is), but it's justa sad fact that there's no genuine year-to-year competition in 18-5A to give a Katy a run for their money. I'm all for teams like Mayde Creek, Taylor, Cnco Ranch, ALief Taylor and even Morton Ranch turning into real, challenging football teams. It'd be great if the playoff spots went to four KISD schools next year.

Right now we're only having little fantasies about getting another shot at SLC. But when it comes down to it, I just want to make the playoffs and play the best the state has to offer in whichever division we're in.
When was the last time Katy went D1?

In 1997, state champs D1(Katy 24 Longview 3). Next Saturday we will honor this team before the game @ 2pm against Alief Taylor. What a way to fire the boys up, by showcasing some history and one of the best teams Katy has ever fielded right in front of them. Champ should be there. Let's give'em one big one!

It would be an awesome game, and I would definitely be there, but I don't like to indulge too heavily in speculation. And luckily I don't have to. The excitement of the last game will keep me going till next weekend. ;)
