They tied with Highland Park in simi finals. HP advanced on penetrations. Abilene beat SA Jefferson in the first game the next year, and lost to Sweetwater in the next game ending the undefeated streak:eek:

a tie is half a loss:p
then it is half a win as well, extending abilene's streak to 49 1/2, making it the current standing record:p

OK, is it "consecutive games without a loss" or a "winning streak"? If it's the winning streak that you hear in most articles or stories about it then Abilene High and Southlake Carroll are tied with 49 "wins" in a row. ;)

Here's the funny thing... I graduated from Abilene High in 1979. We would pass through the gym everyday and say "What is that old football with 49 straight on it doing in the trophy case"?
:D
You don't appreciate things much as an 18 year old.

Uhm, is there anyone that shows up twice on that list? Southlake Carroll, you say? Imagine that, and I thought someone said they weren't any good until 5A.

Typically the oldest record holder maintains the recognition for a record in the event of a tie. Or so it seems.

so then i suppose abilene still holds the streakneither Southlake nor Abilene can top Pflugerville's run of 55 in a row from 1958-1962. they also put together a streak of about 27 earlier in the 50s.

Well, my alma mater had 28 consecutive losses from 1997 to 2000!
Top that bey@&%es!
And - in the 1999 season, we scored 51 pts for a whole season, were shutout 4 times, and gave up 410 pts! Suck on that you winners!

dont try and denigrate an epic performance. it only makes you look like the small man.

I'm not, Abilene TEXAS was a doormat in the 80's, ask any fan over the age of 40, they can tell you of the heartache!
But back to the 50's team, I spoke to a couple guys that played on those teams a couple years ago and what I found most amazing about those teams is that they were so good Moser usually had his starters pulled before the end of the first half! In order to keep from running the score up TOO much.
In fact he pulled them so early that some of the starters were getting so little playing time they nearly didn't qualify as lettermen!!

Regrettably, I lived through it so it did happen. Hard to hide that kind of history. One year when we actually scored a touchdown, we had to go gather the band together so they could play the fight song-they were across the street at the West Texas Fair and rodeo. When told that we had scored, a couple of them said, "you gotta be :Censor: me.":cry:D

No it is not 51 games undefeated - There was a "Tie Breaker" in place to determine which team would win and which team would lose. Abilene lost the tie-breaker. In soccer, which always has ties, the tie-breaker is a penalty shoot-out. The loser of the penalty shoot-out is determined as the loser and has a loss added to the record.

futbol no es football.
a TIE does not go down as a loss no matter who wins the tiebreaker. HP did not win the game, they moved on because of penetrations. the points were even at the end. therefore, abilene remained undefeated.

Ahh yes, back in the days when I could just let my kids run loose throughout shotwell stadium without any worries of them getting lost because I could see them anywhere in the stadium due the empty seats. What fair weather fans we all are.
