Yes--you really do need someone who follows Austin area football on your staff. Hays team of the week for beating Bastrop in 3 OT's? Bastrop, with only one win so far this season? Granted, Bastrop is a much better team than that, but I doubt Hays or its coaching staff considers this their finest hour of the season, much less the best in Region 2.

Hays is a much better team than that, and they are having a good season. I'd probably give the Region II game of the week to Rockwall for beating the vaunted Tyler Lee.

Or maybe Cedar Park for beating McNeil. They capitalized the whole night off of turnovers and great field position. Great win for those guys.

My analysis of Central Texas is that most teams stink. Some of the one's who don't stink are inconsistent. There are a few decent-real good teams:

Westlake
Hays (No that wasn't a great win)
Pflugerville
Leander
Cove
A&M Consolidated
Belton (For now)

A few others will make the playoffs, but not shine.

I wouldnt say we stink, but we are steadily improving. Pflugerville played tough against Judson, and many consider Pflugerville to be the 3rd or 4th best team in Central Texas. We have teams spread out with talent, where as the SA region has Judson SV and Clemens and it seems like thats it.

No, you guys have a good team. That's why I had you listed among the 7.

The rest aren't that good. I know 15-5A is competitve, but I view the last 2 weeks of district as teams being inconsistent and not everybody being good.

Clemens has a good team, too. San Marcos can play and there are a few other good teams in 26 and 27. I'd say our 3 districts match up well with the 3 in Central Texas.

Hey Leander.. how good is the Austin Westlake QB - Nick Foles ? He sounds like he has some pretty solid skills and his pretty big (6-5/230). I see his starting to get some press as a possible bigtime D-1A prospect.

From all the teams we've played so far he's by far the best,he has a great arm and has good accuracy, also his main reciever staton jobe is very fast so that makes him an easy target

He's the real deal, and no doubt a big-time D-1 prospect. So is his #1 target Staton Jobe.

I'd have to agree with Cedar Park or Rockwall being the team of the week over Hays. I was at the Hays game and they played sloppy. If anything, Bastrop should be the team of the week for taking Hays to 3OT, and being much more prepared than the rebels. The Cedar Park score was the one that really jumped out at me, especially considering how the Mavs played Leander to such a close game the week before.

I thought I'd reward Hays for staying undefeated despite not playing their best. If you are going to be a truly successful team, you gotta be able to win ugly and Hays proved they could do that this week despite playing a 1-win Bastrop team.

Had Rockwall beaten Tyler Lee a few weeks ago, I probably would have given it to them then but the Raiders haven't been very strong so far this year. Plus, Tyler Lee's starting QB Preston Hill went down with an injury after play well early vs. Rockwall.

Hes the real deal. He will go to a division one school IMO. He wasnt very mobile, but if we had a linebacker blitzing or something and they hit him, most qbs would go down where he had to be taken down by 2 guys. Cedar Park capitalized off of alot of good field position and McNeil's Jay Parker (their qb) didnt play in the 2nd half. Cedar Park has played more inconsistant than anyother team in the district this year. Some games they look unbeatable, then they come off and get shut out. Cedar Park beat a very good McNeil team and the game was never in doubt. The previous week Cedar Park lost to RR Westwood, and RR Westwood lost to Stony Point last game, and that ended RR Stony Points 22 game winless drought. Regardless of what happened last week, stony point is not good.

Thanks for the info on Noles at Westlake. I was watching some highlites and saw him and thought "damn" that kid looks really good. Plus, he looks really big with a strong arm.

I really havent heard much about him as an underclassmen. I've heard more about the Mallet kid at Texarkana as the top junior QB in Texas.

I think if Westlake has a strong year and he shows up strong with a good season. He'll start to really get some Press because he sounds like the real deal from what everyone is saying and just from about 7 clips I saw.

I'm going to pay more attention to Westlake and Foles the rest of the season.

They sound like they could be a surprise sleeper team come December..
