View Full Version : Cowboys = most valuable franchise on Earth

The most recent numbers place the value of the Cowboys franchise at $1.5 billion. The average NFL franchise is worth $957 million. The least valuable franchise, the Minnesota Vikings, are valued at $782 million. To put that into a little perspective, the Boston Red Sox are the 2nd most valuable team in MLB with a value of $617 million... over $150 million less than the NFL's least valuable franchise. The Yankees are the most valuable franchise in baseball worth a little over $1 billion. That would be good enough for 6th place in the NFL. The NBA's most valuable franchise, the New York Knicks, are worth just $592 million.

The way the NFL flat crushes any other pro sport league in the world is unreal. Nobody even gets within a whiff.

Just another case for investing in Pro Sports. Normally, investments double every 7 years or so. Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys for $140 million. So he has seen his investment increase 10 times instead of about 3 times.
Now you know why Cuban wants to park his money with the Chicago Cubs.

That estimate doesn't even take into account Jerry's World, does it? That place is a billion on it's own.:D

That surprises me the Yankees and Red Sox are not higher than the NFL.

Does this article take into account any international soccer teams, i.e. Man. Utd, Real Madrid or Barcelona?
I couldn't find any mention of them.

Doubt it, but maybe.
The reason I asked was because it said the NFL was the wealthiest league in the world (which I believe). It also said the Cowboys are the richest sports team on the planet (which I also believe); I just would assume that some of these European soccer teams are up there.

You forgot to add Washinton is also at 1.5 billion at well.
And chances are Snyder will build his own new stadium soon. Rumor has it at the old site of RFK once the Nationals leave.

Tony Romo = BAMF
I love this dude because he is the RIGHT type of person to be playing the greatest game on earth. He's humble and never plays off the hype, he's never been in trouble like so many players are these days, and he's just such a pleasant guy. Mad propz to Romomaniac!:)
P.S. Sorry about the hijack ;)

Cowboys are the only "elite" team that I really love. Growing up, I liked the Sixers with Dr J, Mo Cheeks, and Billy Cunningham, and always wanted them to beat the Celtics and Lakers. in baseball, I just followed the 2 Texas teams, which had some success, but never dominated. i pulled for guys like JR Richard and Jim Sundberg more than the top line stars. early on, because of a man named Earl, i wanted to go to texas, but i gradually figured out I never wanted to be a part of their elitist culture.
Being a Cowboys fan is different for me than most. I can remember watching Roger staubach during the bicentennial year with that crazy red(white and blue) stripe on his helmet and being nicknamed Captain America('s team.) I never understood why they were changing something that was already great. It was my first experience with hype and media influence, and how it turned opposing fans against my team.
i remember how much I hated the Steelers when they beat my Pokes 21-17 in the SB. I pretty much thought terry bradshaw and mean Joe Green were 2 of the worst human beings on the planet, and Chuck Knoll was satan incarnate. now, as a lover of football in general, those 3 guys are some of the biggest icons in the game as far as being tough players/ coaches and I have a ton of respect for them. i know now that Joe Green was one of the classiest players to ever play, heck, he even gave little kids his jersey.;)
I can remember wearing a Tony dorsett jersey to school( in Denver) and daring anyone to say something about it.
We moved to Texas in 1977. That took everything to a new level. the preacher new if the pokes played at 12, we could start a little early, cause we were leaving at 11:30, whether he was done or not. Tom Landry was the most professional, Christian, honest man on the Earth, and he knew the most about football too, at least in my eyes. I knew where every player went to school. if they had been traded, who they had played for before, and what position they had played. By this time I was about 10 years old.
The Pokes had beaten the Orange Crush, which we loved reminding our family in Colorado about, and suffered the 35-31 defeat by the Steelers again, in what i still consider the best SB ever, even though my team lost. No game has had the amount of superstar talent on both teams and lived up to that hype like that game did.
Then came the catch...
Take a spoon out of the drawer in the kitchen, and start digging your heart out. that's what that felt like that day. Pittsburgh was off the hook. san fran was the devil now. i hated everything about them, except Ronnie Lott. he was the only guy that got a pass with me, just because he was so awesome.
For the next 3 years, Dallas would make it to the NFC championship games and lose. Those teams had some great players, and the combination of not getting to the SB and the anti- Dallas bias by HOF has kept dominating players from those teams from being considered as great.
We had 49ers to hate, and this was also when the Redskins started coming into the joe Gibbs era. Theismann was a smurf that needed his head knocked off. i thought Dexter manley probably couldn't complete the alphabet, and john Riggins was the slowest fattest, unstoppable RB in the league.
in 1985, we went to the 44-0 drubbing at the hands of the Bears on their way to one of the greatest seasons ever in NFL history. that was my first Pro game, the hook set a little deeper in me. Even though my team got smoked that day, it was awesome for a kid that lived in a town of about 500 people to get to see the big stage that his team played on. that just kicked my love for the Cowboys up another notch.
into the late 80's, the Pokes faltered, but I still loved my team. When they went 1-15, I was still very proud of that 1, against the 'skins. i wanted Tom to change a little and quit being so conservative in his assessments of plays/ and players. i thought the league was passing us by.
The team was about to enter a new era.
The day jerry jones fired Tom landry is a day many in my family vowed they would never , again, cheer for the Cowboys. I told them he shouldn't have been treated that way, but he still needed to change, and he wouldn't, so the boss made a choice. In retrospect, i don't think Jerry Jones ever would have had an easy time removing Tom landry from the organization. i also think he did it just about the worst way possible. I still think, with everything Tom had put into the franchise, that he deserved another season. i know now, from a business sense, that jerry made a move that is commonly done today, when a new direction is sought after. jerry would make several great and equally damning decisions in the years to come.
That's all i have time for now- i just wanted to illustrate how a kid came to love a franchise early on in life, and has had the different emotions in following it. yeah, I have bigger priorities in life. My faith, family, and job, of course are what i live for. After that, it's the Dallas Cowboys! always has been that way, for me.

It does. The last figures I see show Man. U. to be valued around $1.37 billion with Real Madrid next at just over a billion.
BTW, these figures do include the Cowboys new stadium, but they only include the $375 share that the Cowboys own. The wealth of the club will skyrocket once they move in and start collecting the revenue from the stadium.

And chances are Snyder will build his own new stadium soon. Rumor has it at the old site of RFK once the Nationals leave.
Why in the world would he do that? He currently owns the largest stadium in the NFL and charges one of the highest ticket prices in the NFL. FedEx is only 11 years old and presently represents 25% of Washington's $1.47 billion wealth. It wouldn't make any sense at all for him to move. I know there has been a lot of talk about adding a retractable roof to FedEx and I suspect that is the way he will go so Washington can lure the Superbowl that way. He can do that for $100 million or less. Just buying the RFK site and tearing the stadium down would cost close to half a billion dollars. That is an incredibly expensive piece of land which is why the Nationals didn't even consider it for their new ballpark.

FedEx, because it was rushed(to an extent) isn't a very convenient stadium. From what I understand it's very hard to get to (just like anything around DC) but I think he wants one where it's actually his. And he wants a Superbowl type stadium as well as moving the Redskins back to DC. Now, I don't know all the technical details of prices and what not but not too many people are happy with FedEx. Prince George's County isn't exactly a very desirable area either from what I hear.
But he's in the pickle as FedEx is very new and it's hard to get anything down with the DC City.

wow i looked at the toughest nfl waiting list on forbes and it says that season tickets have been sold out for lambeau field since 1960:eek:
According to the Packers' Web site, the approximate wait time to get tickets is 35 years. Season tickets have been sold out since 1960.

I'm really suprised Dallas wasn't on that list. And some of the other on there have me scratching my head. Like New Olreans, Tennesse and the Jets.

I'm with you. Cooking gumbo right now for the big game tonite.:p That 1 win against the 'skins was their only loss that season. At least the 'Boys stuck it to 'em while floundering elsewhere.

Whatever the value of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise may be, it almost certainly will take a huge dive if they don't get rid of those horrible uniforms they were parading around in today! ;)

I'll bet they use them more often considering how bad they beat Detroit.
Funny. I remember reading these same sorts of articles about the NBA in the late 80's early 90's. No one touched the NBA, they were heading skyward into an infinite bliss. Check it out now.
Watch out for what kind of long-term effect this cheating scandal will have on the NFL.
