Interesting little week we have set up for us.
Lake plays Brazoswood Tuesday @ Pearland, this is during beat Creek week because we play Creek Saturday during the day. Creek however plays Alvin that same Tuesday in Alvin. Pearland who just escaped an underachiving Lake team plays Brook who is getting bigtime RB Carlos Frank back. No 24-5a games friday, but saturday has Brook v Brazoswood which may feature a team coming from an upset win. Ball v Pearland is that saturday also (may determine the 24-5a champ right there).

Frank played Friday against Ball and didn't seem like his old self.
I would hardly say Pearland escaped Lake. anybody who can slow down that offense, and holding them to 240 yards is slowing them down, did a good job. Face it, Pearland's D is good.
Ball certainly has an advantage having off on Tuesday. In essence, they got their off week during the Rita evacuation. Not playing on Tuesday will certainly help them. They have some good runningbacks, and a fast attacking defense.
Whenever the Creek schools play, you can throw out their records. All 3 games will be good games. I look for Creek to get a win this week.

Pearland has it tough this week but Carlos Frank is not back up to par. He has actually come back way to quick with the knee injury in my opinion. His backup seem to look quicker. But Ball getting a full week to prepare for Pearland gives them a huge edge. Ball High vs Pearland should be the game of the week and could leave Pearland with a loss since they have less time to prepare and heal.
Lake best not overlook B'wood on Tuesday because they have a running game but there defense is less than up to stopping Lake. If Lake loses this one, then its because they gave it away.
Beat Creek week is exactly right, this is the big rivalry game and a win starved Creek is dangerous. They were beating a very good Deer Park team 21 -17 at halftime (Dobie squeaked out a 24-21 OT win over Deer Park). Young sophmore QB but the team is loaded with speed (averaging 50 yds per kick return) and some very good receivers that none of the Lake DB's can run with. Weakness is defense just like Lake because they have Lake's D coordinator from last year.

once again you are oozing!!
Was he a bad coach when Lake was one of the top defenses around here while he was DC at Lake?

This game may be as close as the Pearland vs Clear Lake game. I have Lake winning it!

You have got to be kidding me...Lake went five rounds deep in the playoffs last year and it took the entire team to get there. Lake's offense was explosive last year, but Lake's defense held them at critical times (do I need to start listing those games? Katy? Memorial?, Houston Lamar? etc.) Also, Lake held state finalist Smithson Valley to 9 points when they were averaging 50 points in the post season playoffs (remember, they are the team that went toe to toe with SLC in the state game only to lose on a last second field goal).
Do you judge a defense by the points allowed or the yards allowed? Remember, this is the same Lake program that beat Northshore in '99. (oops, a sore spot for Oiler1 - since this is something Pearland hasn't done yet.)
Perhaps Pearland should follow Clear Lake's motto by positioning their players for "whole team success" and not focusing on offense vs. defense. What about Special Teams? We definitely can't forget about them. There is none bigger a play than Lake's block of a field goal in the Katy game that sent the game into overtime.
If you are a Pearland fan, then you must also know that several coaches at Pearland came from La Marque, which must also mean you are an Alan Weddell fan. After several state championship seasons in La Marque, he went collegiate, then made a stop off as Brazoswood's DC last year (Head coach is another LaMarque coach who was under Weddell). Statistically on the defense, he didn't have much success. Does that mean he is not a good coach? Of course not!
Have yet to see Creek play this season, but I have been told by many that Creek has definitely improved from last year on both sides of the ball. They are hitting harder and making huge plays. Looking at the box scores from last year, the scores against their opponents are closer than they were last year.
I'd like to see Creek pull out a win tomorrow night against Alvin.

dd90,
My point on the defensive stats is that you can't keep letting teams rack up as many yards as Lake or Creek. Both systems based on the DC from Lake and expect to win. At some point allowing that many yards is going to bite you. It takes an awfully high powered offense (Oswald @ Lake) to offset the yards these two squads are giving up. Its awfully coincidental that Lake and Creek are next to last and last in district 24-5A in their scheme. Shared the same DC that managed to put enough together to win last year at Lake. This defense is extemely vulnerable up the middle. Lake's squad last year was special and I will be the first to acknowledge that.
I hope your right about Creek pulling one out against Alvin tonight. I hate watching teams suffer through losing streaks like theirs. The talent is there but not sure the new Coaching staff knows how to get it done yet.

Were not livin in the past. Many of us recognize that the team is in bad shape. Its not a bad team, because it can still be fixed. The only thing holding Lake down is uncofidence, inexperince, and Gilmer. I know that at least 2 of those things can be fixed, and hopefully the fixing starts tonight.

First of all i dont appreciate you talken about your starting qb like that if he starts dont you think the coaches knew what they were doing and i go to clear lake but i use to live in lamarque gilmer has been hit my defenses so hard other qbs would not take so i think you need to calmdown about gilmer holding lake down he has 2 td passes aint all that great but in the offense yall run its perfect he might throw and int here and there but the kid is young have faith in your qb you notice his shifty moves he pulls on defense or how are offense put up over 600 offensive yards on baytown lee i no there not a good team but just try doing it. I think yalls problem is yalls come to your games to show off on how many tackles you made how many rushing yards you made i noticed last year team the so called mircale run to the state semis came to the game hungry for the win and striving for one thats what i think yall need to start doing get hungry for a win.So before you put down your qb think off all those things.. ps dont worry about coming out of the huddle first come out of the huddle as a team be a teammm

Now the district is flipped upside down but falling where I had some inclination it might per my previous post.
Creek knocked off Alvin tonight 1-0 district
Alvin 1-1 district
Lake lost to B'wood tonight 0-2 district
B'wood 1-1 district
Pearland thrashed Brook 2-0 district
Brook 0-2 district
Ball is off 1-0 district
The finish in this district will be Pearland, Ball for sure leaving what I believe is the sleeper Clear Creek sneaking in the 3rd spot or spoiling it for someone else. Creek has more speed and size than even Pearland but need guidance and good coaching. They only allowed Alvin to cross the 50 once tonight and extremely conservative offensive play calling along with lots of penalties stop 5 attempts in the red zone. CONGRADS TO CREEK FOR BREAKING A 21 GAME LOSING STREAK!!!!!

I'm not on the team I'm a fan who only sees a cluzy fumble prone QB every time I turn my head up. I recognize that he has put up some big numbers and big TD's. I just don't think he is adapting to the option as well as he was earlier. Since Katy Taylor he has been shut down. Plus when they did put Cole in today (cole mueller back up QB) we had no more fumbles (Gilmer had 2 offical and possibly 2 more than wern't called) and he had several breaks and I beilive a TD. Mueller is going to have to be the way to go if we wan't to be competitive in 24-5a.

Not a one hit wonder, and not on the decline, this is probably however an offyear or rebuilding or whatever u want to call it. Though they are undersized, the juniors we have in will be chalk full of experince come next season and will have a solid team. I'm just worried that they might not have the awsome threats we have now in Geno Blow, Blake Sledge, Vincent Brooks, and TJ Brown.

Not mismanaged, Aduddell was the coach of the year last year to many polls for 5A. Our defesnive coordinator is in his first year so this is all new to everyone. Tons of new juniors making the team because of the mass graduation of last years team are being taught the option so many of them are new to it also. The kids are just undersized and the talent is no where near what it was last year. I give the coaches tons of crap about the kicking situation and the QB situation. Kicking is going to suck this year I think its to late to do anything about that (could always go Dallas Carter and never kick or punt). Cole Mueller is starting to split time with Gilmer so hopefully the QB situation will improve.

When it all comes down to it, yes Lake is not going to recover magically. However we might get very lucky and squeeze in by the virtue that our district is weak. We have to win though. Lake must beat Creek, Brook, and Alvin. Because we lost to Brazoswood (never thought I'd say that) I have to thank Creek for choosing to end its losing streak tonight. By giving Alvin an unexpected loss that keeps us even with them for that 3rd spot. I don't want to give Creek the nod for the 3rd spot just yet, remember they just ended their 21 game losing streak, that dosen't mean there a playoff team just yet, though because its 24-5a I wont count them out. I won't count Brazoswood out either, they came to play and that run game looked pretty good (nice job though I am very angry at the bucs right now). The only team I want to count out is Brook and pretty much everything just rides on Carlos Frank. If he recovers from his injury (which he isn't doing right now) Brook becomes a threat again, if he dosen't then they'll be at the bottom of 24-5a.
Ah Texas High School Football, even if most of the teams are crap you still get controversy and excitiment.

I Seriously think i will cry if we loose to creek, brook and alvin. Ball i have to assume, but not the other three.
Brook especially, they don't post on here yet, but they just might be the most annoying school ever. They were the ugly stepsister to our cinderella story last year, they stood no threat but they did everythign possible just to piss us off. Not so much the football team, just the kids that would crash our parties. Ha, yeah not so much about football, i just dont think i could tolerate hearing them say they are better than us (*which right now they are*).

Hence...mis-managed!! He has a "NON-OPTION RUNNING QB" trying to run the option. His defensive scheme is working...he just needs to switch players around!!
Break this Mueller kid in as an option running QB, and make some serious defensive adjustments, and we'll see how much better Lake can be!!
Just speaking from experience!

Maybe voted but not reality because if it wasn't for Paul Lanier OC @ Lake (former G'ball head coach) the option team that Oswald ran would have never happened. That said, the talent was there for that style with Oswald and Jones in the package. The talent is not in the right scheme for the kids currently on the team. Gilmer is a pocket passing style QB and always has been. Things cycle at some schools, just like when Schulz was at Creek had all the talent and squandered it every year in the playoffs, of course they played Drew Tate @ Lee or North Shore in the 1st round but still miss managed and bad play calling.

Looks like some of your predictions are right but several have been wrong. The district is really up in the air now for the 3rd spot. The 2nd spot could also be up in the air if Creek upsets Ball at their homecoming this week and Lake stops fumbling the ball and beats Brook and Ball.
Pearland (6-0) - this should still happen
Creek (4-2) Beats Bwood upsets Ball for their Homecoming
Ball (3-3) 2-upsets (Rajon Henley out w/dislocated elbow)
Brook (3-3) Beats Alvin
Lake (2-4) beats Brook (Lake's H'coming), and beats Ball
Alvin (2-4) Loses rest
Brazoswood (1-5) Loses rest
Ball advances with tie breaker to Brook. This may not play out this way in the 2 and 3 spot but its a fun prediction.

Hey...made my predictions for 24-5A. So what do the rest of you think will happen in the final 2 spots since Pearland pretty much has the top spot and a D1 slot wrapped up?
For all that hard work the gift is North Shore in the first round. Survive that and you only get to play Westfield in the second round. Man oh man thats a schedule.
This weeks results should be interesting in district 24. Their opponents are pretty set in district 23 with only one game to play out after Deer Park loses to North Shore.
