This Friday will mark the end of trail runs for both teams as they head into district play the following weeks. Both teams will meet in Crump stadium (Alief).

Alief Taylor has started off well this year at 2-0 and have improved quite a bit since last season, easily handling FB Bush in their 2007 opener 35-7, and again last week by leaving behind FB Kempner 27-10 (who the week before had a close run with ranked Pearland).

Alief Tayor comes into the game with 624 yrds of total offense, 402 yrds rushing @ 5.82 per carry, and 222 yrds passing @ 20.18 yards per att.

Last season Alief Taylor went (6-5 overall), (4-3 District), losing their first round playoff match with Cy-Falls 47-28.

QB - Donte Elliot (6'-1" 185 lb) will lead the Lions offense.
Passing 10-16 for 193 yrds (62.5%), 4 TD's
Rushing 4.56 yrds per carry

RB's Demetrius Dillard 13.5 yrds per carry
Jorge Castro 5.36 yrds per carry
DeMarcus Dennis 12.8 yrds per carry

WR's David Chapman (6'-2" 190 lb) 4 for 97, 24 yrds/pass
Rodney Owens (6'-2" 185 lb) 2 for 89, 45 yrds/pass

Other Lion standouts include C-Andrew Krutsinger (6'-3" 260 lb) Sr,
and DB- DeAndre Thompson (6'-0" 175 lb) Sr.

Last season Cy-Fair came into their matchup with Alief Taylor having scored 70 points while giving up only 6. By games end, they increased their point total to 106-6, beating Taylor 36-0. This year however, the Lions have improved and they will certainly give Cy-Fair a better run for their money.

Despite the ranks, Cy-Fair has yet to prove itself this year with a record of 1-1 thus far, and little to show on the scoreboard. Plagued by injuries, lack of discipline, and careless mistakes, have overshadowed what many expected to be a superior showing coming into this season. Will this be the week that Cy-Fair finally comes alive? For the Bobcat faithful, one could only hope.

Cy-Fair comes into the game with 653 yrds of total offense, 512 yrds rushing @ 5.82 per carry, 141 yrds passing @ 10.85 yrds per att.

QB- Gavin West 141 yrds passing ttl, -6 yards rushing.

RB's Wesley Cobb (5'-10" 200 lb) Sr. 56 carries, 350 yrds, 6.25 yrds per carry.
Morrice Lane (5'-11" 220 lb) Jr. 10 carries, 95 yrds, 9.5 yrds per carry.
Tevin Champagne (5'-10" 165 lb) Soph. 4 carries, 47 yrds, 11.75 per carry.

Receiving-
Michael Zorn (WR) 7 catches for 69 yrds, 10 yrd avg.
Colby Goodwin (TE) 4 catches for 65 yrds, 16 yrd avg.

It is unk whether or not McGuffie will make a showing this week. If the Bobcats cannot manage a significant win against Taylor, then they can expect to drop off the rankings completely. Understandably so. The coaches & players have had time to correct the petty mistakes and get the offense in order. The defense looks outstanding but cannot hold the game alone. It's imperative that the offense step up this week!

I have no alternative than to pick this game to be a close one. My pick is Cy-Fair edging Taylor by 7.

Do you know how badly injured McGuffie is? Will the Bobcats use him if the game is in jeopardy? A. Taylor's QB is a good runner. I think he's a converted WR. Taylor may be tough at Crump. Cy-Fair's task would be to keep the Lions offense on the sidelines as much as possible. This might turn out to be an entertaining game to watch.

I believe there is no hot food at Crump yet so eat before you get there.

He's looking good with nothing noticeable, but i have no idea if he'll play or not. He may get a series in or two but who knows. If anything, Cy-Fair needs to use this time to work on it's passing game. Next week we are "open", followed by the district opener with Strake Jesuit who will definately put points on the board.

Two weeks from now.:D Everyone except Springs takes their bye-week this next week. Good time to be resting McGuffie, this week and next week. Make sure he is as close to 100% when district play starts. Cobb has been doing an excellent job of filling for him, so why chance anything during preseason?

Alief Taylor is a team that impressed me last year with their speed, size and determination. The playoff game was nereve racking until the 4th quarter.

Pearland is very deserving of their rank:rolleyes: having beat Kempner at home by 4 points.

You are right, this should be a good game. Taylor at home makes it an even better game.

Elliot gave Katy fits last year, but he never played QB again after that because the previous year's starter came back from injury. I was really impressed with him last year.

My Bad,..I had us playing Creek next week when we're actually "open" followed by Strake. Strake will give us a good game this year. That break will give McGuffie some extra rest for sure. I know he's dying to get in there though.

Taylor has a lot of speed on offense. That concerns me quite a bit. Luckily (as did last year) we have a decent defense with some speed to counter it. We'll see how it pans out.

Trevor White, who was their OC under the old coach (Tom Gerber), is their new coach now. For his first HC job, he's making quite a splash.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Alief Taylor pull this one out. CyFair is struggling - especially in McGuff's absence. Although Cobb is doing well, the offense has no passing threat. No speed at WR and marginal throwing ability allow teams to stack and stuff the run. Taylor with some exceptional athletes - question of maintaining discipline and playing together.

I want Cy Fair to win but I think this one could be close and could go either way. We played Taylor in our first round last year and they gave ME a scare - not sure about the team. We ended up taking over the game but they came ready to play there at the start.

As for their fan support - it was sad to say the least. You would have thought it was a scrimmage for them there were so few fans. That's truly sad because if you have the players, trainers, band, cheerleader and drill team parents over there, there would be a decent crowd - so someone's parents didn't go to watch their kids and that's something that I will never understand.

I also coached Jorge Castro in little league football. It has taking him a while to find himself. I think he started out a Westside as a Freshman. But, he was a very capable tough nose kid and a very good running back at least as good as a running back can be in little league football:) . I still think Cy-Fair will take this but it will be a good game. Alief Taylor feels they have something to prove so they will be up.

All I know is Coach P. doesn't take any team lightly. Cy Fair has been working very hard this week for Aleif Taylor. Many people don't realize that Cy Fair had 3-4 chances to put points on the board against Klein Collins but penalties and bad play calls killed the drives. The score could have been 31-6 easily. And im sure if it would have been, No one would be picking Alief Taylor. But Cy Fair is not taking this one lightly. Those kids on Aleif Taylor can flat out fly on both sides of the ball. If the defense for Cy Fair plays like they did against Collins they should win. The D really played well...that QB and RB for Collins were very talented and Fair shut them down.

I sure hope you're right. I'll be the first to admit, i'm not at all comfortable with the situation we're faced with at present. By rights, we should be rolling like a steam roller paving a new highway.

We were very fortunate last year in that we didn't have to execute very many extended drives. Most of the time we scored within 5 to 8 plays that kept the chances for offensive mistakes to a minimum. This year the configuration is a bit different with practically an entirely new set of linemen and QB. Even with the new equasion, this offense should have little trouble scoring if all 11 people do their jobs correctly. Our lack of success so far has been due in large part by lack of execution, and mental mistakes. Cure those two factors and this whole thing turns completely around.

Also, or OC has gotten back into the same old one dimentional rut that they clearly ackowledged was a problem last year. No matter how well we execute and play mistake free ball, we are limited if we do not pass the ball. Our run offense cannot be expected to perform the task at hand series after series with a loaded box in their face. KO last week at times had (9) people up front daring us to pass. That's just gotta stop.

I would be glad to see they've found a way to keep the powder dry and come out blasting like i know they can. We'll see what happens.

Having McGuffie back in there & seeing West connect with his passing game would be music to my ears.

No offense Spartan, Just ranting :puke  :D

It is good they are resting him. With his running style, he needs his ankles. And if he comes back too soon, he could be suffering all season. I'll go against the others about "no Mc, no win". Cobb has proven to be more than adequate in Mc's absence. He has been rolling up some yards himself so far.

CF was two different teams between halftime.

Before halftime, they had a lot of short drives, Gavin threw an INT for a TD, then on the following kickoff Cy-Fair fumbled it and Aleif got the ball at around the 40 (would score a TD on that drive).

After halftime, Cy Fair was moving the chains well and looked like a completely different team scoring 24 points. The D created a lot of 3rd and longs and got a lot of turnovers.

Alief Taylor would always get fairly close to scoring but penalty's would always set them back. Their D was good, but in the second half they had trouble stopping Cobb and Lane.

You are going to be in trouble when Fair meets Falls. ;) McGuffie should be back the weekend of Sept 29th. He'll have a few games to test the ankle and trust being able to make his cuts without trouble. Not to mention he will be chomping at the bits to make an impact on National tv.

Now you throw in Cobb and Lane.....

What did you think about A. Taylor? How do they look?

Alief Taylor played a pretty decent game. They were very powerful on both sides, but lacked discipline (9) penalties, and (5) fumbles. "Holding" seemed to be their worst setback.

They did a very good job of containment in the first half and capitalized on our mistakes. We threw quite a bit in the first half but weren't making hardly any completions at all. I only saw us pass one time the second half and the receiver was already down before the ball had been thrown. Tayor knew we didn't have much of a passing game so they stacked the box (at times with 10 players) and it ended up costing them in the second half.

First offensive play of the second half Cobb went 99 yards straight up the middle and left'em all behind. Lane had a great 57 yard TD off tackle also and really showed some speed that none of us knew he had. The safety that was converging on him looked like he really didn't want a collision with 220+ lbs coming right at him so he made a half *** dive for Lane's feet but missed.

Cy-Fair had only one (1) penalty the whole game and i was pleased at that. It made a big difference in the attitude of the game and kept them in the right frame of mind. Blocking looked a lot better this week and the line looked a lot more aggressive against Taylor. The Cat's must have worked extra hard preparing up front and it showed.

I think Taylor really could have kept this game close with their athleticism but one thing i noticed was that as good as Donte Elliot (QB) was, he was too stingy with the ball and our defense keyed on that. If he wasn't passing, then 90% of the time he was keeping the ball for himself. It cost them quite a bit. Had he been a little more flexible and used his pitch-back more often, they would have gained a lot more yardage and probably scored a few more TD's. We were fortunate in that regard because our defensive ends were caught inside a lot and it left us with one DB covering the option. I just couldn't understand why Taylor did that. We were fortunate there also.

Elliot did manage to move the ball pretty good when he was passing though. Our defense was once again poping leather and forced quite a few fumbles. About midway through the third quarter, it looked like Taylors WR's were afraid to catch the ball. They really got a beating from our defense.

Chris Patrick had a 47 yard FG tonight and it was P R E T T Y!!! He even had a kickoff go through the uprights tonight that landed deep behind the goal post!! I hope Pustejovsky was watching that one.

We looked like we were going to be in trouble the first half, but something happened in the locker room and out came the Cy-Fair of old. I'm happy with the way they played tonight. Keep it rolling guys!!

Some game stats:

TTL Offense:

Alief Taylor TTL-406, Rush-131, Pass-275
D. Elliot passing- 18-38-275, 1TD, 2 INT.
D. Elliot rushing- 19-106
Fumbles 5/4
Penalties 9-70

Cy-Fair TTL-345, Rush-40-277, Pass-68, 1 INT
W. Cobb 28-184-6.57 2 TD's
M. Lane 6-83-13.83 2 TD's
Fumbles 2/2
Penalties 1-10
