A&M Consol beats Waco

By 4 points, was difficult to keep track of as the scoreboard went out. It was a barn burning 2nd half.

1st Q, we were heading into a stiff breeze, nothing was going right on offense. Actually, inconsistent on both sides of the ball.

Officiating was horrible. Some crew out of San Antonio. I pity the two teams that have them next week.

2nd Q, consol gets the wind and the sun at their backs. Halftime it's 18-10 Waco leading.

Waco takes the wind and the ball to start the 3rd Q. We stop them twice and get bogus penalty calls that keep the drive alive. I never really complain about the officiating, but this was incredibly bad.

So, now we've got about 7-8 minutes left in the 4th Q and now have the wind and we're down 25-10. 4 plays later, TD pass. (one helluva run by Lewis after the catch. I think there were about 4 waco jock straps laying on the field). Now it's 25-16, coach goes for 2 and it fails.

Onside kick and Consol recovers. Poor coaching from wAco as their players backed up waiting for it to go 10 yards. They should have just ran and got it before it crossed.

3 plays later, TD pass to Lewis again. More jock straps on the field. Score is now 25-22. Kicks extra point. 25-23.

Long kick off this time, out of the end zone.

Even with the bad officiating, we manage to force a punt, get the ball back on the 50 with about 2-3 minutes. Ball control drive and punch it in. Now it's 25-29 Consol. Consol goes for 2 to make it a 6 point game. Fails. Only 20 seconds left, Waco throws a hail mary and we intercept.

Close game, a win is a win as they say, but this was a time where the Waco guys were trying to get that first win, they played hard. I don't understand though, their o-line kept moving all game and the never got an offsides penalty. Really bad calls. But, this win was a nice turning point for consol. A loss here would have been rather devasting. Trying to give a team of good athletes their 5th loss in a row is never easy.

The best news of the night for me as fan is that the Senior middle linebacker that kept giving up all the inside runs this season was finally benched in the 4th Q and the replacement shut down the middle. Thank goodness!

Well, I would suggest that no one take them too lightly the rest of this year. They are not far from putting it all together in a big way. They've got a pretty good defense. Offensive running game is pretty good as well. Passing game is almost non-existent.

Their JV came to College Station this past Thursday and had no one in the stands. Not one parent. Granted there might have been one or two on our side, but I didn't see anyone wearing red at that game.

In yesterday's game, I think Consol had more fans than Waco. not a lot of local support it appears.

Beautiful facility though. Who is the other team they share that with in Waco ISD?

They share the facility with Waco University in 4A. Rumor has it that Waco will also go 4A when the new realignment takes effect. That should be a blessing for them so they can remain a power in football.

This year they are out of control and just can't seem to get anything going. I know several people have been working hard to help get their fan support up but considering they are 0-4 (5) They have a heck of a battle now to get the fans out. This has always been a problem for Waco, for some reason their fans just don't go to the games.

Well we have matched the 1996 record.....0-5.........that was the year we won the rest of the games.....and went three rounds deep in the playoffs. I don't see it happenin this year tho.

They are improving weekly...........and should have had the Consol game.......just weird things keeping them from winning.

Should get the first win next week against Belton...if not...it's over.

If they cannot compete in 5a what makes you think they will be a power in 4a? When SA Sam Houston moved down to 4a in the early 90s everybody in the state was ready to hand them a 4a title trophy because they made the playoffs in 5a every year and would end up 10-2, 10-3, or 11-1 or something. They moved them into Clemens district and in six years they scored 7 points against us. We outscored them something like 300-7 in those six years. My point is that when we moved to 5a and were aligned to 26-5a, I didn't think that we would win one district game that first year because we were so much smaller and slower than our last 2 years in 4a. We went 7-3 and missed the playoffs on a third place tie! With the two teams that we had the lasts 2 years in 4a, the farthest we got in the playoffs was a semi-final lost to PNG!

All you have to do is look at teams like Stevenville in the 90s, and LaMarque then and now to see it. Those teams and many other 4a teams can hang witht the best 5a teams. Also, look at Austin Westlake. I don't remember them winning a title in 4a with all the great teams they had, but the sure won one as soon as they moved up to 5a!

Super's right..anything can happen in this district, 2003 Cove was 6-0 and rolling over everyone....then the bottom fell out 6-4 and watching playoffs

thanyou football junkie for giving heights some credit finally, this is a very competive district and everything is in the air, things can go any way but hopefully they go our way we had a good win against a very athletic shoemaker team who has came a very long way, shoemaker will end up winning some games in district maybe even suprising amc or cove, things will definately go down to the wire here.

Well we play shoemaker this week and from what we have watched on film shoemaker and harker hieghts look pretty awsome, but this district has always ended up with a twist and im sure it will happen agian this year but i agree this district should just be taken one game at a time.

personally i think every team stills has a chance besides temple... theyre purdy much out considering that they have no offense, at all... but i love those guys over there they fought hard.
