View Full Version : Did the Texans build wrong?

Well, we're four seasons into our franchise here in Houston and the team is sitting at 0-2. They've been outscored 49-14 in those two games and are looking at a road trip to 3-0 Cincy this week.

So far, no team in the league has been less competitive than the Texans this year.

Did the Texans build the franchise wrong from the beginning?

I'm inclined to say a resounding yes to that simply because we didn't effectively build up the trenches before we spent draft picks on skill players. There's nothing wrong with drafting guys like Andre Johnson, Dunta Robinson and David Carr but what good can they do without people helping them out in the trenches?

In my opinion, the Texans have done an extremely poor job of stocking the offensive and defensive lines and that is a big reason why this franchise is not improving. Four years later, and we still don't have offensive linemen who can block or DL that can pressure a backfield.

Jabar Gaffney (WR) and Jason Babin (DL-LB) are our most confusing draft picks to date. Gaffney was taken first in the second round four years ago, and Babin went in the 1st round the year before last. Neither player was labeled as that kind of prospect coming out of college, and haven't done anything to change that as pros so far.

I think the entire coaching staff needs to go, and Casserly (although he does seem to know the game) may consider resigning himself to get a new team in place with fresh ideas. Because, so far, it looks like Texans' ship is going nowhere fast.

What do you think?

The proof is in the pudding. I agree with you. Well written post.

I haven't watched enough games and I do not follow them to closely. But the one thing that I know is that their O-Line is horrible. Every time I see a clip of them or I am flippin through the channels and see a game D Carr is always getting pressured and has absolutley no time. So i agree that this is where the team needs to start re-building.

Gotta say I agree. Overall, the team is not headed in the right direction. Here's a fact...the new acting Offensive Co-ordinator was fired by Dom Capers when they were at the Carolina Panthers. The reason?...because the owner said he was too boring and not creative enough.

So, about 7 years later, what does that same staff do?...make that same guy co-ordinator again.

I'm not a fan of Dom Capers...never have been. He's too passive. All of his teams are passive.

And I agree about the draft selections...there really hasn't been any impressive selections thus far. Dunta and Johnson are about it. Carr is a firestarter, but the poor guy won't make 5 more years, if he keeps getting used as a tackling dummy.

I just get the feeling that the team, as a whole, has regressed. The Texans were better defensively 2 years ago, and the offensive was starting to step up. Now, both units look 10 times worse.

And that's not a good thing for this coaching staff.

Overall: D-

(And that's being candid!)

How do you start a franchise...then 4 yrs later have to rebuild that franchise?

If that's the case, we start at the top....see ya later Mr. Capers! Go bore another city to sleep!

haha it sounds bad, but it is true. I can't think of any city that would want Capers. I can't think of too many coaches that are worse.

Actually, I can't think of any coaches that are worse.

KT - the Texans O-line is the worst in the league, possibly the worst assembled in the past 10 years. And...they fired their O-coordinator and promoted their O-line coach to O-coordinator? Hello.....This franchise is quickly moving from poor start-up to laughing stock of the league. Sad. I see them going 3-13 this year.

Right now, it's hard to see where we even get the three and that's really sad.

Makes up long for the days of the Dallas Texans! :D Three years and an AFL title. Topped off by the best QB any Texan team (or Dallas team for that matter) ever had...Len Dawson.

mad fan...I have won countless beers with that question....
What team did the Dallas Texans later become?
90% of the people I ask say ....the Dallas Cowboys...

the problem with the texans is the lines...they dint do crap to them and it seems we lose the good players on defense every year...we should not have let glenn go he was our best defensive player...we are starting to look like the new cleveland browns and im unhappy with that...if we dont address this issue soon it will be a long season...i think the texans will be a team with a top 5 pick next year if they keep it up

Is this the same board where gangs of envious Texans fans spewed nonsense about Houston having a better record than the Cowboys?

Is it?

Where are all those bandwagon Texans fans?
C'mon Texans...is it that easy to run you off?

All is not lost....You lead the series with the Cowboys....
but you trail 8-0 in Super Bowl appearances.

david carr, IMO is wayyyy overrated, i always thought that about him, but the oline does stink, him and joey harrington should not be starters

i think the texans do need to start over. david carr is a good qb but without time to throw no qb can lead a team espically from the turf

Exactly....they need to give Carr enough time. He's about the only good player on their team.

Themselves....again, and again, and again, and again, and huh...you know what? They might have a perfect 16-0 record! The Dolphins did it 23 years ago.....Houston will do it this year!

What?!...I'm serious!!

I would laugh so hard if the Texans went 0-16. That would make my year, the only thing that would make it better is if the Cowboys won the Superbowl. (probably not this year)

You and I need to have Milla-Lite, cus we're on the same page!! Houston couldn't beat L.D. Bell!...Well they could, but it'd be really, really, really close!! :D

Now watch them go 12-4 on the season and make it to the AFC Championship..............WHAT?!!

I said STOP LAUGHING!!! :D

Heh, Heh, Heh!!!
