Northwestern rolls past Carol City
BY ANDRE C. FERNANDEZ
MiamiHerald
The Northwestern players heard the questions all week at school.
What's wrong with the defense?
How can you guys give up 41 points?
'I got stopped by a teacher in the hallway, and she asked me `do you play on defense?' '' senior offensive lineman Brandon Washington said. 'I told her I didn't. She said `I was about to have a word with you if you did.' ''
A week after giving up 41 points in a preseason game against Deerfield Beach, Northwestern showed that the sub-par performance was a fluke by shutting out Carol City 42-0 in front of 8,000 fans at Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday night.
The Bulls defense held the Chiefs to 16 total yards and without a first down until the fourth quarter. Senior quarterback Jacory Harris led a potent Northwestern offensive performance, completing 18 of 25 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns

Pretty much what I predicted was going to happen.

I love the fact that they get in trouble or something if they were on defense. Thats a little too much pressure on the kids but w/e

From the Miami Herald (I assume the 0 first downs for MNW is an error. You'll also notice that they list zero punts for 25 yards and zero penalties, so take this for what it's worth.):

NW did not punt at all. In Florida the mercy rule applies if your down by 30-35 pts. There is a constant running clock if that happens. Second half went by quick and NW called of dogs.

Thats good for the losing team's fans, so they don't have to sit through a blow out for 3 hours.

The thing to remember about this win by MNW is that Carol City is a very good football team with tons of talent. They won the state championship a few years ago, and they have a long time repected head coach. BUT, even though the Bulls are great...

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I've seen Carol City play several times betweeen 2003, 2004 and 2005 and I saw their State Title team with Willie Williams, Kenny Phillips and about 6 other D-1A kids.
Collection of "athletes" at best and not very good coaching. Carol City is the perfect example of a Dade Co. team that tries to "out athlete" everyone they play and their team chemistry & technique is very weak and fundamentally basic.
At best most years they would be on par with a inner city HISD team like Houston Yates who spurns out several D-1A kids almost every year but couldnt compete against any of the elite Texas 5A's or even Texas 4A's. Heck, some of the stronger Texas 3A's would put it on Houston Yates.
Carol City = Houston Yates almost every year.
There is "athletes" on Carol City teams most years and I wont argue that point with you. Just like Houston Yates , Carol City put out about 3 (D-1A) kids every year.
But please, dont think MNW blowing out Carol City by 40 pts means much.
SLC would blow out Houston Yates by about 60 probably and shut them down also.
Plus, the last few seasons Carol City has really been bad.

Just so you know.. One of my best friends was at the game last night (MNW vs Carol City) and later today when I talk to him he'll give me the scoop on how they looked.
He's from Tulsa, Ok and is a big Tulsa Union fan and knows football pretty good.
Me and him have gone to several Dade Co. games together over the years (2003, 2004,2005) and we're both big HS football fans.

That's good. That means their punt team doesnt practice much.;) ;) :D

2006- (4-8) got blown out by BTW 33-0 & MNW 50-13.
2005- (4-5)
2004- (11-2)
Starting the 2007 season much like the 2006 season with a 42-0 loss instead of a 50-13 loss to MNW.;)

Again, Carol City = Houston Yates. "like it or not it's the truth."
Also I'm negative huh. I already have said many many many times now that I cant wait to see the "MOST TALENTED HS TEAM IN AMERICAN HISTORY" with MNW.
There the "MOST TALENTED TEAM EVER" so how is that negative..:D
Cant wait to see them against SLC. I mean I'm with you I think SLC would be very lucky to beat Carol City.;)

Wow !! Someone from Miami that honestly say that Carol City is a bad team. Congrats because it's rare thing but at least your totally honest.;) :)
Not taking anything away from MNW. Just when I read someone say that MNW just beat a good Carol City team I have to laugh some.
