Pearland gets a vote. Records say it all. And although the "Rig" hasnt been open long but pearland only lost two times their to the hands on Bobby Reid an North Shore in a mud bowl that came down to late touchdown back in 02 and to north shore agian last yr in a battled playoff game that came down to the final 30 seconds.
But i still think we have a while to go til we get with the like of SLC and others.

ABE has the advantage (at least right now) of:
1) Most teams have to travel 110 miles for the game which they are just not used to.
2) The home side is sold out so 1/2 of the visitors side is held for the home teams general admission fans who can get quite, shall we say, verbose. That makes it 8-9000 home fans at a game.
3) College type tailgating at all home games.
4) Great coach that really works all angles. Refs, wet fields etc. (May not work with the new turf).
I am glad we have had Lufkin in this district so we could see smaller town football at its best but it must be hard on the other sports on week night games to travel that far and still make the grades. Lufkin probably has the system down to counter this but other schools don't.

Even when i was there we traveled all over while playing baseball and basketball. Sometimes you could have several week day road games over 100 miles away. You had to be at school the next day. No system was in place when i was there in the 90's anyways.

The key word for Lufkin is travel... we have been traveling to Longview, Tyler, Marshall and even Texarkana at one time for over 50 years, we are use to the travel. That is why is doesn't bother us to come to Klein or Conroe to play. Same distance, just different teams. Abe is a tough place to play for all visitors. Watering the grass down?, why in the world would we have done that when speed is our asset?
My top 5 from experience:
1. Abe Martin (Lufkin)
2. Rose Stadium (Tyler)
3.(tie) Lobo Stadium (Longview)
3.(tie) Maverick Stadium (Marshall, now 4A)
4. Mesquite Memorial
5. Sprage Field (Dallas Carter)

Do we have to stay in Texas when voting on a Stadium? Dragon Stadium isn't tough the team is tough to play. The toughest stadium I have seen is Valadosta in Goergia. 15,000 every game w/ only maybe 500 being visiting fans. Loudest I have ever heard at a High School game. And that is w/o annoying noise makers like Stephenville. And please some serious harm needs to come to the person who invented the thunder sticks.

Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin for sure!!!! Lufkin is loud anywhere they go. I remember when they played at the Woodlands last year, people were at the Woodlands stadium two hours before game time and security was not expecting anyone there like that. The Conroe bands were still practicing in the parking lot.

Would have to disagree w/ a lot of these stadiums. Kyle is tough, so is Tiger Stadium but must include Nieland (Tennessee 109,000; and Oregons home field. Including the cotton bowl is a joke. Been to Sun Devil Stadium and not scary at all not even as bad as Wisconsin.
As far as pro stadium Texas stadium is a joke compared to most other pro stadiums. Just ask the players. Need to replace Texas Stadium and the SuperDome w/ Lambo Field, talk about cold, and Arrowhead 80,000 fans and a college like atmosphere.

Arrowhead....lol! Have a few memories there! Also, got a few guys that play with the chiefs that I played with or grew up with.
Lambeau Field was COLDDDDD, but some reason wasn't as bitter as the Bronco fans. Anyhow good to know there's a "pro-bro" on here! I keep saying the "LEAGUE" ain't no joke! It's tough out there!...just ask my back, neck, both shoulders, ribs, left knee...all my freakin' fingers when it gets cold and the continuing pain that vibrates through the crack in my foot!

I guess I'll list my Top 5, that I've been to to see a game there.
1) Abe Martin Stadium, Lufkin - Obvious
2) Lobo Stadium, Longview - Gotta love our fans and that atmosphere.
3) Maverick Stadium, Marshall - Why on earth is it always 110 degrees when we go there
4) Bill Ruple Stadium, Monroe Neville, LA - Absolutely horrid to get there. Easily can get lost, SMALL but Neville fans are definately loud.
5) Rose Stadium, Tyler Lee/John Tyler - Man I love that stadium but definately very hard to win there.

With respect to the college games, try Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Hokie fans make the place very loud for visiting teams. Also, Legion Field in Birmingham can be very loud, especially when Bama used to play Auburn there.

It's exactly (in the Fall) what countless of others describe it as; cold. On a side note: I would think your mind would be focused on rebounding from the ("juggernaut") Harlingen and (wha-what?) Longview losses, than what some guy said 5-6 years ago, on some message board. Then again, I'm just a normal guy. A typical guy. Maybe it's a new trend to have grown men waking up in the middle of the night, thinking about what other grown men may have said (5-6 yrs prior) on a message board. I don't get down like that. Personal preference. Not judging. Just saying.
Peace!

Dang dude, just asked a question and you have to go there? Yeah Abilene is a yougn team and they're learning the hard way, maybe if we had a 300# OL who could bench 405 and squat 555 and run a sub 5 forty then maybe we could have won one or both of those games you mention.
Curious, what made Texas stadium such a hard place play at on Sundays? Was it the huge crown at midfield, because it wasn't that loud.

Old Ratliff Stadium in Odessa when Permian was Permian. SLC is tough.
Kyle field can be deafening. Most likely because anm fans are groaning from getting their butts kicked. I assume the greatone meant the TEXAS/OU game at the Cotton Bowl. What made that venue hard to play at on the second Saturday in October was the magnitude of the game. It's an intimidating atmosphere that one day, but no other day. The walk down the tunnel, back when both teams walked down together, was a sight to see. Guinness says the world record for most put downs of your mother is set there every year.
Never played at the Vet but, from what some friends have said, it's not the place to be if you're in the opposing teams gear. A reallly scary place that you literally are worried about your safety.

Not sure if "300 lb OL who could bench 405 and squat 555 and run a sub 5 forty" would've helped. The valley kids said Abilene just felt soft. Either way... nice job on taking one for Region 1 vs RGV. Oh, wait... I forgot about that "non-elite and overrated program" (Longview) from Region 2. That makes 2... "2"... for Region 1 vs The World.
They definitely know who to call, back, for a RGV vs Region 1 game. That RGV is somethin' else! :D

Old thread brought up by MEN who wake up in the middle of the night, thinking about things that other MEN have typed 5 or 6 years earlier. Never heard of that. I'm not criticizing that person's desires, I'm just making a note of such fact. The intentions (of said person or person's) are likely masked by the evolution of the thread, as they are likely on a more personable scale.

Because I've asked the Board to leave my personal life alone. I've asked to be respected, in this manner. I don't pry into the life of anyone else, on this Board, and I would like the same respect. I have not talked about my past, since 2006... and I prefer to leave it at that. Yet, there are those (like yourself) who just can't do it. I've stated (to the KT's) that there is a need to keep my on-site life distanced from my off-site life. There are reasons for this. I wasn't aware of these concerns, 5 to 6 years ago. I am now. There are those who are hell bent on simply seeing me (TGO) destroyed. There are those who are simply intrigued. I can't split the two, and there are things that I say that can be used against me, in other venues.
I wish I could take back much of what I've typed (about things like religion, sex, science, politics, and many other things), but I can't. There are those (and they know EXACTLY who they are) who would use those words against me, in my personal life, if they could. The only way to combat that is to stay aware of any and all of my comments. I can no longer (freely) speak the way I have, in the past. It's unfortunate, but it's true.
We live in a world where people are jealous, vindictive, sensitive, and/or simply (pure) evil (e.g. Ted Bundy). Like in the move 'The Dark Knight',"they simply want to see the world burn...". I have no doubt that there are those on this board that would do that (in regards to my personal life), if they had the chance.
Some of you may understand and some of you may not. I am simply safe-guarding myself. I hope you understand.

Awesome! I bet he had some great stories to tell. There is something about watery-ice that completely takes the drive out of a man. And, that goes for any level... pee-wee, middle school, high school, college, and pro. Hell, even the fans are miserable! :D
Best story he had.......we were watching the original Longest Yard and when the scene where Reynolds throws the ball at Nitchskes crotch comes on my dad can't stop laughing. It was funny, but he would not stop. When asked why he told us that on very cold days when the ball would basically become frozen they would let a player who was killing them slip thru......the ball would then be thrown right his face. They did not wear facemasks n it was a Frozen Ball!
He passed away before the 2008 Katy season. That was his kind of Team. He would have loved watching two of his grandkids on the field at Reliant.

LOL! Good stuff. With the way you turned out, I bet he was a good man. Everyone thinks I hate the 2008-Katy team. I don't. I've only stated that there were a lot of good teams, that year, and most of them went D1. I remember the way that Katy team evolved into a very good team. Ton of respect for the 2008 team.
Still think the 2007 team was the best Katy team I've seen.

I would have loved to have heard his stories!
I love going to my fathers college football reunions with him and hear all the stories from the 50's and all the hard-nosed places they played and etc...

I'll only comment on this once, greatone. I do understand the need for privacy by former athletes. It can get hairy out there with the weirdos and such, and I understand you said you made mistakes giving too much info in the past and that that was your fault. But I think you were a little harsh when responding to said poster earlier when he asked you a benign question about a stadium. Maybe he has no clue who you are/were. And being on a public forum, I'd think, might ought to be off limits to someone so concerned about privacy. You'd better hope, and I'm sure they do, that the owner of this fine place places privacy as high up as we all do.
I'd love to hear some stories too, but I think I'll pass on asking you for any. :)

Toughest places I played....
HS
1) Texas Stadium
2) Mesquite Memorial
3) Duncanville's Stadium
4) Kyle Field
5) Williams Stadium
College
1) Tiger Stadium (LSU)
2) Kyle Field (aTm)
3) Doak Campbell Stadium (FSU)
4) Cotton Bowl
5) Sun Devil Stadium
Pro
1) The Vet
2) Texas Stadium
3) Mile High Stadium (Colddddd)
4) Meadowlands
5) Superdome
This is a great list. I never had the chance of playing past high school but if I could play in front of any crowd it would have been the Philly Crowd at the old Vet. What as that like? Did those animals up there throw things at you?
You are so fortunate to play in the places you listed and I would assume others that were not listed.

I heard when the cowboys played at the cotton bowl (1960-71) it was impossible to hear yourself think...
And A&M in the 90's had a stretch of going (50-2-1) at Kyle Field. That was a CRAZY crowd.
I kind of get what you're saying, but then again, kind of don't. Back in the day it appears you wanted to be the cool guy, no fault in that, but coming onto a HS football website telling everyone that you played college football a well as playing in the NFL kind of means something and is of real interest to the posters.
Certainly some people value privacy more than others, but it would appear to me that you have an easy way to solve it, you can stop posting, create a new name, or simply deal with it.
I don't think it's possible or realisitc to tell everyone that you've played in the NFL and not expect people to want to know more and simply not comment on it.
Just my thoughts.

Jenny Dial, her team, and the Houston Chronicle did a nice little piece early this season about high school stadium home field advantages. I can't find it now to repost, but I believe the order for GHA was Old Abe (Lufkin), Rhodes (For Katy games),Bulldog Stadium (La Porte), The Rig (Pearland & Dawson)...I can't remember the 5th one...

I played Wide Receiver for Deering, Maine. We sucked. Maine sucks. I migrated "south" and played college football at West Chester (Rams) Community College in New York. I, actually, kinda sucked... thus I never played in the NFL. I must admit... I lied, people. I never played at those fields or stadiums. Hell, I had no idea who or what Texas A&M was, until I got here. I'm sorry. I feel so horrible.

I would have given anything to have been good enough at football to have kinda sucked as a college player at West Chester Community College in New York... working really hard and sucking in high school was as far as I got.
What, are you afraid people are going to lecture you about damaging the integrity of the Internet? Please. As far as I am concerned there is nothing to forgive - I think we can all understand the temptation to play the great and terrible Oz.
However, if you think I'm going to forgive you for thinking Region 1 is all that...:D

No because those people know you never set foot there or on any other campus for that matter. I'm still waiting on an answer to my question as to why Texas stadium was such a hard place to play as a pro?

Thanks, man. But, in all honesty I'm just trying to kill all of this noise. I have my reasons for not bringing up my past. There are those who would like to discredit me by having me admit I didn't play in the NFL... as if it will matter, either way. So, therefore I give them what they want (so they leave me alone).

I'm befuddled by the above. I never asked about where you played High School football, just about the environment in a stadium where you claim to have played "pro" ball.

THEN WHY DO YOU KEEP POSTING ON THIS THREAD???
Must have been a series of concussions or something...:D
The thread was about toughest high schools stadiums to play in--if I read it right. YOU'RE THE ONE THAT BROUGHT UP THE OTHER STADIUMS AND YOUR SUPPOSED PAST.
Who cares! I enjoy your posts, but give it (this line on this thread) a rest already. Seems to me, you're continuing the thoughts just to validate yourself.;)
