...the state championship match-up been held in the pre-district schedule?

I'm not sure how many times it has happened overall, but I think the most recent case was in 2000 when Katy played John Tyler for state in Division II. The teams kicked off the regular season earlier that year in Katy. The Tigers took both games and finished 16-0 that year.

It was held in district one time in 5A.

1995 Judson vs. Roosevelt

I bet some of the old-time teams like Abilene, Amarillo, and Wichita Falls played each other before they met in the finals.

It would be hit or miss that teams from far away played, but any of the titles between local teams stands a chance. Obviously, North Shore and The Woodlands didn't play.

the 5A champion played the 4A champion in non-district?

That's not true. Judson and Roosevelt were in the same district and each school won the state championship in different divisions.

lufkin has been either the champion or at least beat a div1 or div2 champ 4 years in a row which is pretty interesting and impressive. jt vs katy is the only one that rings a bell to me also when it comes to your question like kt2000 already pointed out.

your point being? lp won state in 01, slc and judson in 02, kt and gpns in 03 and tlee and slc in 04. westlake wasn't invoved in any of those championships .

you are right ddaddy my mistake. lufkin beat westlake for the championship in 2001 they beat the div2 champ katy in 2003 and beat tyler lee the div1 champ in 2004. so 3 out of the 4 years they have beat a div1 or div2 champ or were the champs themselves. i guess i could say they won or lost to a div1 or div2 champ 4 years in a row. lol

The same thing happened in 1992 whe Temple beat Judson and won the D2 title, while Judson got D1.

The logistics of having the teams in this scenario is very hard to do. You don't have a lot of cross-state matchups in pre-district and the potential best chances are:

Central Texas vs. San Antonio or Houston
East Texas/Houston vs. Houston

It always revolves around which schools make up the last few districts in Region 2.
