Irving senior running back Jamaal Evans won’t play tonight against Hurst L.D. Bell, Irving principal Linda Kimm said Thursday afternoon.

Kimm refused to comment further about when Evans would be eligible to return to football, citing student privacy laws. Irving football coach Jim Bennett has refused comment.

Evans, ranked No. 23 on the Rivals.com state top 100 recruiting list, said he was suspended last week because of a hallway fight last Thursday morning at Irving High School. Evans said the incident is unrelated to a hallway fight in January after which Evans was suspended for two days and given 20 days in alternative school.

Three other Irving players were also suspended because of last week's fight and all four missed last Friday’s District 6-5A opener, a 38-7 win at Grand Prairie.

Evans needs 298 yards to break Cowboys running back Tyson Thompson’s Irving school district career rushing record of 5,755 yards. In three games this season, Evans has rushed for 902 yards and six touchdowns on 93 carries.

Sophomore Wendall “Chucky” Jones is expected to start in place of Evans. Jones rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries last week against Grand Prairie.

Close game....kinda odd numbers though.

Odd numbers because we were up 10-7 at halftime(should have been 21-7 or 28-7 had we not turned the ball over inside the red zone twice). Irving Penalized their way into the end zone(aided by about 4 penalites by us, they never moved the ball) and scored to make it 13-10. We blocked the extra point but Adron Tennell scooped it up around the 35 yard line and ran in for the 2 point conversion. Something you will probably never see again in your lifetime. That caused us to go for 2 and convert when we scored late in the 4th quarter.

It's time for my weekly post. You have to give Lee credit. They give everything they have. They just don't have alot. :( Game was over at half and Mac shut it down. They threw the ball once in the 2nd half and that was in the first series. Backups played the last half of the 3rd quarter and all of 4th.
IMO, Mac still has a problem against a running QB. I have a couple of the Lee kids that work with me and they said after watching the Reagan/Mac tape that the coaches were going to run the same plays that Jones did for Reagan. To some degree, it worked. The QB for Lee had a 50+ run and a couple of 10+ runs in the first half. Mac changed up the defense and dropped a linebacker into the line and that seemed to stop that play. Again, it's Lee so who really knows.
Mac did run more with Shraim this game and it might have to do with Craig not utilizing his blocks and running the plays. He likes to scramble and make the ESPN highlights alot. Shraim ended with 17 carries and 130+yds, 2tds while Craig got about 5-7 carries and 40+yds. He did have the 99yd ko return for a TD to start the game.
It's a win for Mac and they won the game early like they should have. Now they have to get ready for SV and if they continue to make the same mistakes (false starts, dropped balls, missed blocks by the WR) it could be pretty ugly.
One thing I will say. Mac can throw the ball but they seem to want to keep the running game a part of the offense. To some degree it seems as though they do it just so they can say they are running but with Craig, half his plays are lost yds. I think SV will jump out early on Mac and it will be interesting to see how good that passing offense is when they have to pass to get back in the game.

Yes, finally the offense was opened up and diversified. Spread the ball around very nicely. Henry only touched the ball about 9 times. Got about 100yds and 3 TD's, but they finally used him as a decoy to work on other things. This bodes well for later on if they force defenses to stop keying solely on Henry.

San Marcos scored on a 65 yard run by Jordan Walker on their third offensive play. After that it was San Marcos controlling the clock on long, time-consuming, punishing drives (one 21 plays, another 16 plays). San Marcos defense kept the Seguin offense in check and got one interception and a fumble recovery. It was 14-0 at half and the outcome was never really in doubt after that.

Congrats to the Buffs as well, it looks like its on for the district championship!
