Absolutely. With hometown hero Vince Young beginning his second year the sky is the limit!.......................... What? They passed on VY?............... OK. With second year sensation Reggie Bush leading the way the Texans should be poised to take a quantum leap forward this season!.................... Excuse me? They didn't take Bush either? What the :Censor: kind of :Censor: is that?! These :Censor: guys stink! How could you :Censor: that up?! I miss the Oilers.:D

Not particularly. That secondary will probably finish dead last or very close to it. The defense isn't nearly strong enough, and I'm not convinced the offense will be able to run the ball for 16 games.
One of the Chron writers predicted a 10-6 season. They should parade around Houston if they do that. That would be an unbelievable achievement for this bunch.
I don't think they are nearly good enough, but we will find out.

I am ready to see that offense. I wonder how good its going to be with Schaub running it. That Jacoby Jones looks like a stud so far. If he keeps this up, he might as well be the #2 WR next to Andre Johnson on the depth chart.

The offense will have its sparks this season, but they wont stay consistant. Remember, they still don't have an o-line. I hope your not expecting an 8-8 season or better, because remember they also still play in the AFC. I honestly don't see them winning more than 7 games. Until they learn how to draft, they will always be known as "that other team in Texas".

Oh I am not expecting an 8-8 season. It would be great to see them pull that off but I don't see that happening. I expect them to get at least 7 wins as well. Your right. They have a weak o-line and until they improve that area, they won't get to that 8-8 point.

The schedule looks like
Kansas City
@ Carolina
Indianapolis
@ Atlanta
Miami
@Jacksonville
Tennessee
@ San Diego
@ Oakland
Bye
New Orleans
@ Cleveland
@ Tennessee
Tampa Bay
Denver
@ Indianapolis
Jacksonville
I'd say the Texans have a legitimate shot at winning about 10 of those. They will most likely lose two to Indianapolis. And you can mark down L's for San Diego and New Orleans. But Oakland, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Miami, and Kansas City are all pretty bad teams.
Atlanta lost their quarterback.
Kansas City is led by Damon Huard.
Oakland....
Cleveland had Brady Quinn....
Tennessee lost just about every skilled player on their team.
Jacksonville is pretty good but we always seem to play them well.
Miami has looked downright awful.
Tampa Bay's defense is horrible.

Yeah - that's a weak schedule - good for Houston. Outside shot at 10 wins, should likely go 8-8, might slip to 7-9. I sure would not predict 10 wins though - Chron, the homers.

About par for the course from any VY fan. Sorry Jeremy I just can't ever take anything from you seriously if VY is directly (or in this...indirectly for some) involved ;)
The secondary is rough outside of Dunta, which is sad because he is damned good (almost great) DB. I'm not one for predicting records and such, but at least the team will be interesting.
People say the OL is improved. Hogwash, it's called getting a QB who knows what he's doing. It's like reverse Christmas...the best gift this offseason was actually getting rid of something (Carr). The running game was bad last year, but how could anyone say it'll be worse? Just the mere presence of a somewhat capable QB and an expected improvement in the passing game with the emergence of Owen Daniels and hopefully the continued baptism of Jacoby Jones, I don't see how the running game doesn't improve.
The defense should be in the upper third in the league at defending the run, but the pass defense still has a lot to be desired. There is no doubt in my mind that next year's top draft choice is a safety. It's a must, this club has been missing anything resembling one since inception.
All in all, I'm excited about the team not because of a possible playoff birth (one year away), but the fact is that it should be the best team the franchise has had and will be interesting to watch.

Damarcus Faggins makes me cringe.
Ahman Green is still a legitimate running threat. Green Bay isn't a great team and he still had 1000 yards with them last year. One thing's for sure, he's a hell of a lot better than the random players they've been starting the last couple of years. Samkon Gado, Ron Dayne, Domanick Davis, etc...

True Redhoss, but, IMO Carr will not be missed at all regardless of this seasons record.
Jason Babin......Travis Johnson........Mario Williams.....they invested a LOT in these guys and probably could have gotten all 3 in the 3rd round:mad: Together they average like 3 tackles a game....What is a pass rush?
They went from 2-14 to 6-10 under Kubiacks first year....this has to be the BEST team we've had since the NFL came to Houston....we have a decent offense....8-8 or 9-7 should be a good season.

This year will show that many of the offensive woes were not entirely the O-lines fault.
I think 8-8 is a realistic record to shoot for in '07

The real question is. Who was the worst 1st overall pick. Mario Williams or David Carr...?
Mario Williams is a good player, but we passed on Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, etc...
At least David Carr had a ****** draft class to be compared to.

They're really not that bad this year. Tough to move up in the AFC, though. They have some good young players: Owen Daniel, Ryans, Johnson, J Jones, Robinson, possibly Okoye, hopefully So-so Mario, Schaub. They are definitely headed in the right direction, finally.

There is no question here. The impact on that franchise of not taking Young/Bush/Leinart will be felt for a decade. Everyone loved Carr coming out. In that case the Texans did the right thing. It's not exactly like he's a flop. He just didn't ascend to the level some thought he would. In the case of Williams, there were teams that didn't have him in their top 5 & a few that had him rated closer to 10. How a team with the top pick manages to miss out on three of the premiere young talents in the league is beyond comprehension.

Come on, man. You can't keep using that against VY fans. I've been over that for a while now. I'd like to be able to root for the Texans, but they make that extremely difficult.
Acquiring Schaub looks like a very good move right now, and it dang well better be for the money they are paying him. However, the fact the Texans did absolutely nothing to address their secondary (which ranked 31 out of 32 last year) this off-season is about as inexplicable as any move they've made in the franchise's existence.
The Texans will get torched by any decent passing team they play this year. You better hope Schaub and Ahman Green have huge years because they'll need it to hang around .500. Even in a scrimmage, they made Rex Grossman look like Dan Marino. On top of having a horrible secondary (aside from Dunta), they can't generate an effective pass rush to save their lives up front.
If Ahman Green stays on the field the majority of this season I will be shocked. This is an RB past the prime of his career with a very injury prone history. He's a very good back when healthy, the last of the great Nebraska I backs, but that's been a rare occurence.
I'd like to see the Texans be successful and I am a fan of Gary Kubiak, but when you combine the information on paper with what they've done on the field it's tough to see much to be really optimistic about.

I can't argue on the secondary, but they didn't have many options this offseason to improve it. Yet somehow, over the last half of last year, the defense was in the top 1/3, how do you explain that (hey, I can't either).
What makes me sick is the number of morons who continue to think Schaub will get pounded because of the line. How f'ing hard is it to see that the problem was a QB who couldn't make reads and deliver the ball on time?

I believe it was a combination of both. Schaub looks like a definite improvement over Carr upstairs, but, again, I just don't see a consistent running game for the Texans this year and Schaub will come under considerable pressure unless Ahman can go the distance.
I wouldn't paint with such a broad brush when it comes to Vince. That's far from the only reason I believe what I do about the Texans. I've been scratching my head on the Texans ever since I heard Tony Boselli's name mentioned as the first pick in the expansion draft.

Tell me again how folks aren't suppossed to be sick to their stomach when a hometown superstar doesn't get picked? Imagine if your Texans had posessed the foresight to trade Carr for anything before the draft instead of giving him away by release, picked Young & not given up the small ransom in picks & huge contract for Schaub. You save money on the contract, make money as revenue goes through the roof with VY on board & gain the young talent you still need by not losing those picks in a trade and picking up a little something for Carr. It's called business management. It starts with getting a clue & then developing a plan.

9 Nov 04 HOU @ OAK W
10 Bye
11 Nov 18 NO @ HOU ??...prediction pending
12 Nov 25 HOU @ CLE W
13 Dec 02 HOU @ TEN ??...prediction pending
14 Dec 09 TB @ HOU W
15 Dec 13 DEN @ HOU L
16 Dec 23 HOU @ IND L
17 Dec 30 JAC @ HOU W
so add the 2-0 record to this predicted finish and the Texans IMO could be 10-6 or 12-4...which would mean 2nd place in the south...possible wild-card

I'll go ahead and start preparing my crow. The Texans look very good on both sides of the ball. I didn't think they would win more than five games this year and now it looks like they won't lose more than five.
Very nice.
Its crow i will be glad to eat.

I admit houston does seem like a better team this year but there is still alot of football to be played
Did anyone else get a glimpse of Derek Zoolander....uh.......Carr on the sideline yesterday? I wonder how much time he spent on his hair. Those white gloves were great. "I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is."

Everything looks good except I see Tennesse beating the Texans in their first meeting.

I am more excited than I have been since they began. It was refreshing to see Carr finally leave (guess KTCarl can call Reliant and ask them to fill in those Carr Butt Divets!!). He was a nice enough guy but he just doesn't have what it takes. I am so impressed by Schaub thus far - he has a lot of composure and sees the potential plays downfield way faster than Carr ever did. Johnson looked good yesterday - hope the injury is minor. And Mario Williams is coming around too. I think this team has a completely different mindset and is much more positive about themselves. If they beat the Colts, Houston is going to go bonkers!! Now THAT would be making a statement!! At the present, I am pleased with a 2-0 start.
Anyone know the results of Andre Johnson's MRI?

"He'll be reevaluated by Bastin and the team physician, Dr. Walt Lowe, on Wednesday, when they'll have a better idea of Johnson's timetable for recovery"
So I guess we only have speculation until Wednesday...

If that wr doesn't drop the ball for Tenn. yesterday - VY has another comeback win. Bad drop, really bad.

What exactly does this have to do with the Texans?

it means vy and the titans would have beat the colts giving Houston the first place position in the AFC south

i can't believe i'm defending carr, but those white gloves are to make it easy when he's doing his back up duties, i.e. sending hand signals

The colts are a toss up game at this point. I'd hate to get overconfident but the chiefs didn't look nearly as bad yesterday against Chicago as they did against us. And Carolina is a talented and well coached team. Indianapolis's thumping of New Orleans isn't looking as good now, and Tennessee is always a threat with Young, but if, say, they hadn't traded away everyone, they very well could have won that game.
With Taurik Glen leaving, and the improved play on our Dline we can probably get some pressure on the QB. It doesn't even have to be a sack but a pressure/hurry would slow them down. If we can have 16 play drives like yesterday, it will keep their offense off the field. Kind of like how we won last year when Ron Dayne went off.
