Still can't believe they're gonna waste this kid as a db. He is electricity with the ball in his hands. Why not put him position to get more touches than just the return game? Waste of talent, imo.

#14 is a doubled bladed sword. You can be crippled by the fear or rise above it. I am glad he is doing well.

Sounds like he is going to major in XBox.
Hope he has time to crack the books once in awhile. Unfortunately, the questioner seemed to have zero interest whatsoever in Will's academics. I hope Will has more interest in it than the PR guy who conducted the interview. To me that tells alot about the Oklahoma State program.
Oh, and what kind of world are we in now where a kid is 18 or 19 and in college and has never, EVER, had a job???

I'm not saying he can't transition to the defensive backfield but let's not overplay his talent or underappreciate the ability of Deon. Sanders was the best defender coming out of hs his senior year and one of the most physically gifted players of all time. Cole will not be the ballhawk that Sanders was. In the return game, he'll be special. I just feel the better/easier transition would be to wr.

Our society is in big trouble if we don't teach our kids how to go to work, how to say "yes sir" to a boss that they might not like, or how to drag yourself out of bed and go to work even if you have the sniffles.
I live in a neighborhood with a lot of overpriviledged kids whose parents don't think it's a big deal that they don't work in the summers. Many of them would never dream of letting their son flip burgers or mow lawns for the summer. I think that's very sad and not at all good for their kids or for society. My kids will work, will pay for at least a major portion of any vehicle they will own, will buy their gas and their movie tickets and ice cream cones.
I'm not saying Will Cole is a bad guy, heck with a football scholarship to OSU he owns what amounts to a lottery ticket that might give him, say, a one in ten chance (that's generous) of making a living playing football some day in the future. I just hope somebody at Oklahoma State is trying to help him get a degree there.

Amen, Spartan. The simple rules of courtesy and diligence will always yield far more than they require.

I will say this from my perspective. My son is an AP student and an athlete, during the Football season he gets up at 6am and goes to bed during the week no earlier than 11pm, most nights it is 12pm . During the weekend he is trying to get ahead with his homework for the upcoming week, so he rarely goes anywhere other than church. During the off-season it is still homework daily until 7 or 8 at night. During the summer he goes to Football camps and campus visits during the month of June. So in reality that leaves July and 2 weeks in August to go to work (6-7 weeks). We tried this past summer to get him a job during that time frame but of course all the neighborhood kids had all the jobs already. I have worked from the time I was 16 and my wife has as well. The problem is not that I do not want him to work, the problem is he has a job already it just does not pay him. Education, and Athletics are his job right now and believe me it is FULL-TIME.
I see your point about teaching our kids about the real world and working, but sometimes even that is an unrealistic approach. Growing up all I had was time, but in this day and age for some of our young people TIME is at a premium.

Very well said. I would argue that when kid is keeping the school schedule & athletic schedule your son is, the value of work is being instilled the same as it would be were he working a job. An AP courseload coupled with a commitment to athletics is a tough road. The hours he's putting in are equal to, if no more than, a hs kid with a pt job. Congrats to your son. His hard work will pay off.

Thx. I was just putting another perspective out there. It is tough for some of our young people.

I am glad to hear he is an AP student, I wish that had come through in the twenty questions thing on the OSU site. Sometimes the athletic departments are their own worst enemies in perpetuating stereotypes about their athletes and I am sorry I took the bait.
Best of luck to him. I was at the Cedar Hill / Cy Falls game last December and I was blown away by his skillset and loved the way he led the team.
