North Texas will open the 2008 football season against LSU in Tiger Stadium, LSU senior associate athletic director Verge Ausberry confirmed Wednesday night.

“We got that signed contract today,” Ausberry said after the Denton (Texas) Record-Chronicle first reported the agreement.

Troy State was still listed on LSU’s Web site Wednesday night as the Tigers’ season-opening opponent for 2008, but Ausberry said North Texas will be the opponent for LSU’s first game next year.

“North Texas was supposed to be here in 2009,” he said. “We had to make changes for this season that affected 2009, and we moved them to ’08.”

The Record-Chronicle reported North Texas is negotiating a settlement with the University of Miami after dissolving a contract to play the Hurricanes in 2008.

Miami trustees voted Tuesday to move the team’s home games from the Orange Bowl to Dolphin Stadium starting next year.

North Texas played at LSU in 1999, losing 52-0, and again in 2005, losing 56-3 in a game postponed nearly two months because of Hurricane Katrina.

Ausberry said LSU is still searching for one more opponent for 2008

Let the North Texas recruitment lot trickle down to Dodge's standards (say 2 or 3 yrs), and that meeting with LSU won't sound as lopsided.

LSU still wins easily this year but the margin will close when the program gets into full swing.

UNT will never be able to avoid games like these. We (I am a UNT alum Cajun) need these money games each and every year. Once we get the new stadium built and the program on better ground then we just might be able to get some of the big boys to Denton. However, no matter what UNT will always be playing these type of games. THey will never be in a BCS conference and these games help with that.
Last year we played in Austin, this year we play in Norman and next year we play in Baton Rouge.

Yeah, you right...

Texas A&M(6-6) lost to Louisiana-Lafayette (5-6) 29-22

Texas A&M(6-6) plays La Tech(6-5) 3 games later and beats La Tech 63-13...

Go figure...

1996-Louisiana-Lafayette(Independent)-that's a heck of a schedule looking at it....

8/30 @ Florida (12-1) L 21 55
9/14 vs. Texas A&M (6-6) W 29 22
9/21 @ Southern Mississippi (8-3) L 27 52
9/28 @ Louisiana Tech (6-5) W 37 31
10/5 vs. Houston (7-5) L 24 31
10/12 vs. Arkansas State (4-7) W 42 31
10/19 @ Alabama-Birmingham (5-6) L 29 39
10/26 vs. Memphis (4-7) W 13 9
11/2 @ Virginia Tech (10-2) L 16 47
11/9 vs. Northern Illinois (1-10) W 45 31
11/16 @ Texas Tech (7-5) L 21 56
5-6-0
304 404

These type schools always gonna be just about 6 or 7 really good players away every year from really putting together a good run...Just ain't got enough horses in the stable...

a respectable as the program is i dont believe unt gets enough respect. I think it's over shadowed and it's a good school both ways. Academically and athletically

Steve. The only thing athletically we are good at would be Womans Soccer. Thanks for the kudos anyways though.
