Wow, the local news just repoted it, a girl was at a bus stop and he was speeding in a school zone and hit her, which caused her to fly over 200 feet. Gardner as you would assume is sitting out Friday

That is not what happened....he was coming over a hill while it was still dark on his way to morning practice when a girl, who they believe was mentally disabled, supposively was in the middle of the road... It happened on a country road near where i lived while i was in highschool

Right now what this kid need now is support from his teammates. No one should look down on him. It could happen to anyone. So, all the cove fans should rally around him and give him the support too.

Cove student struck, killed by truck driven by quarterback
Updated: Sep 28, 2005 6:20pm
Copperas Cove High students are mourning the loss of a student who was hit by a pick-up and killed Wednesday morning. The driver of the truck in the accident is the quarterback of the football team.

DPS troopers say the accident happened Wednesday morning at about 6:45 on the corner of Dove Lane and FM 1113, where a group of students was waiting for a bus. Investigators say 17-year-old Crystal Duden was standing in the middle of the road when the truck hit her. The driver of the truck was the Bulldogs' senior starting quarterback Brent Garner. DPS troopers say Duden landed a couple of hundred feet away.

The man who called 911, Rocky Pickett says, "It took me about 15 seconds to realize what had happened. There was the hit, and then there were screams and I figured out what had happened, and it was very, very horrible."

Investigators estimate Garner was traveling 68 to 70 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone. Flowers have been placed at the accident site. Duden turned 17 Wednesday.

County officials say no charges are expected to be filed against the senior athlete. Garner has led the bulldogs to a 4-0 record and state ranking while passing for three touchdowns and rushing for five more.

Garner did not attend school Wednesday and Cove head coach Jack Welch says he's not sure when he might return to practice. The school put in place its crisis management plan, making counselors available to all students.
